Adam Meader, who was the foreman, was just so kind, incredible, patient, and wonderful. He and three guys arrived right on time and moved everything out quickly. They packed everything with care and loaded it carefully onto the truck. Adam came into my apartment before they unloaded, asked me where I wanted to put everything, and really helped figure out everything. My Dad had his belongings moved from MA to PA on Aug. 13. I saw the pick-up team of Cody, Erik, and Nate load the furniture, taking care to make sure nothing was left behind. They were hard-working, focused and efficient. My brothers met the delivery crew in PA. They arrived a little late, they said, but did a very good job getting all of the furniture in and placed where my Dad wanted it. These guys were absolutely fantastic. This will seem like I'm related to someone at the company, but I'm not. They were as customer-focused as a high-end hotel or restaurant. While trying to arrange an emergency cross country move(my youngest son has cancer), I called multiple companies. Most were high pressure, sign today or we can't get you a good price. I read reviews by people who said they used Gentle Giants multiple times. Their sales staff did not pressure me to sign an agreement, were polite and easy to understand. I have not seen their quote(I know they will not be the cheapest, but after exhaustive research, I am confident they are one of the best). I first used Gentle Giant based on their reputation. Based on that first experience I used them again and also had them help me pack this time. They're a fantastic full-service moving company and went through the entire process of how the packing team would arrive the day ahead of the move. Everything was packed up efficiently and labeled for an easy unpacking. They move rain or shine, but even with the rain nothing arrived damaged. They handle tight hallways, stairwells, long exits easily. Every time I've used them I understand why they have such a great reputation. The cost of this company is well worth it. We just moved from North Cambridge to Brookline this past Tuesday (9/2/2025) and used Gentle Giant for our 2 bedrooms, living and dining room furniture, plus 3 televisions, a grandfather clock and 2 desks... Our furniture is all pretty heavy and bulky, but thank goodness, both apartments had elevator access so no stairs from our 8th floor in Alewife to here on the 4th in Coolidge Corner. They called the morning of the move to let us know that they were just leaving their location and would be arriving within 30 minutes, and showed up on time at approximately 8:15 which certainly helped us to feel more at ease with the whole moving situation... Based on the furniture we had, it was recommended that we hire 4 workers to expedite the move and save money in the process... So glad we listened! Everything went well, and our move took 7 hours at around $350 per hour for the actual labor... Additional costs included the usual fuel surcharge, packing materials, etc. All 4 guys were professional but friendly, worked continuously throughout the move except for when we brought in pizza for lunch and we encouraged them to take a break so that they too could eat lunch. They were careful to use furniture padding on just about everything. We did opt for full value insurance, even though we knew that damage would be highly unlikely since we had taken Gentle Giant for our previous move and nothing went wrong. We have so far only noticed one tiny dent on the top edge of our side bed rail for the king bed, but the damage did not seem worth mentioning after we noticed it later. Our sincere thanks to those who helped make our move a dream come true rather than a nightmare. Thanks and much appreciation to each of those who assisted with our move. I Drove 100 miles and was on time, Gentle Giant changed the window of showing up from 2 to 4 hours and then couldn't say when they would be there. Meanwhile drastically over-charged, wanted two guys and they insisted on 3 guys and a truck no matter how many times we explained it was a few pieces to another room on same floor. For anyone needing moving help in the Boston area, look no further. Gentle Giant Moving Company helped me move into my apartment in Cambridge, MA, and I cannot give enough positive feedback! I reached out to them looking for help via the online quote request, and received a prompt response from them. The customer service was fantastic and genuine, which was refreshing. I gave them estimates of what I needed to move from my 26' truck to the apartment, and explained the details of the apartment complex. Matt and Jeremy arrived on time and ready with all equipment necessary. As a military veteran, I have moved MANY times over the course of 25 years, and have moved myself all but 1 of the moves. I routinely hire movers to load and unload my truck. I do my own packing. I can say, without hesitation, this was the best move experience I have had. I am used to having to be patient and wait on folks (as I am usually helping and trying to make things easier on my movers), but this time, they were waiting on me, which I love! Matt and Jeremy were my movers, and they arrive on time, and were professional, friendly, and patient throughout the move. They clearly came ready to work, and were incredibly efficient. This is the best moving company I have worked with. That said: 1. The foreman was drunk and kept making stupid and annoying suggestions that I had to constantly overrule. The company sent me a partial refund when I reported it. 2. They put stickers on valuable antiques that destroy the finishes. They said they'd make good on it, but somehow they never did. 3. They don't mark boxes well so it's often difficult to find things. Tip, if they are reading this: use different colored packing paper for when you wrap objects in them, rather than packing around them, so that things don't get thrown away accidentally. Worst off they packed our fragile items awful, and we are opening them up to find things broken. I had an excellent experience with Gentle Giant with a recent local move. Moving is always stressful, but mine was made particularly so by a (literal + unanticipated) last minute apartment change, amidst the COVID pandemic! This meant changes in moving plans on the day of the move including a larger crew. The move coordinator was thankfully very flexible and was able to accommodate my request. Regarding the actual move, Jeff, Isaac, and Alex were wonderfully efficient and thorough- my fragile items were securely wrapped and all arrived unscathed up a third floor walk up, my furniture was arranged to specifications etc. This was among the most seamless moves that I have ever made. This company was amazing from start to finish. From the first phone call to review the estimate to the final walk-through on moving day, nothing but professionals. I had 3 movers - going from a first floor apartment to a single family home on 3 levels. These guys were wonderful - Flavia, Octiva and Ray. They were efficient and thorough. They kindly packed up the awkward pieces I just couldn't find the right boxes for. On arrival to my new home they recognized right away I had recently had the hardwood floors refinished. I didn't have floor pads for the furniture but they did. They added pads to every piece of furniture - I couldn't believe it. They moved furniture around and were so patient when I realized things didn't fit as I'd hoped. Major credit for getting my Peloton bike up to the third floor attic. I rarely leave reviews but the sales tactics for this moving company are incredibly aggressive. I filled out a contact form on Monday evening. By Tuesday morning at 8 a.m., I already had a voicemail from them. I called Tuesday afternoon, talked with a salesperson and received a quote. I mentioned I would need to chat with my boyfriend to discuss who we would be moving forward with and that I would be in touch if we were interested in hiring them. Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., they called. Thursday morning at 8 a.m., they called. And finally, Friday, at 10 a.m., I answered and asked them to please stop calling me. While we never considered hiring them because their quote was -- I kid you not -- three times higher than any other quote we received, this type of frequent calling doesn't make a sale. It irritates a customer and doesn't make us want to work with such an aggressive sales team. Also, in any professional service, calling before 9 a.m., is invasive and disrespectful to a household's schedule and sleep. If you do go with them, make sure to read the fine print -- we realized they were charging a (ridiculous) amount for mattress protectors and other unnecessary goods that we can buy ourselves. I also specifically asked for four hours and they were the only company to double it to eight, even though it definitely will not take that long to move across the city of Boston. read more

I needed to dispose of a baby grand piano. I called several companies all of whom declined in spite of advertising that they would take pianos and in two cases making appointments with full knowledge that the job involved this type of piano, then declining when they arrived, costing me time off from work. I then called Gentle Giant who has a subsidiary Allston Piano Movers. They had no issue taking my piano for disposal, and their price was quite reasonable (I expected to pay more than $1,000, their price was a lot less). The 3 person crew arrived on time, and took less than 30 minutes to disassemble the piano, move it, load it, and secure it on their truck. I was so impressed with how quietly and efficiently they worked, as well as their professionalism. Good afternoon, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to your company. You were able to fit me in the schedule very quickly and, for me, painlessly. I have had experience with moving companies numerous times through my many years in the military. I have to aay this move was notably above the rest. I would like to take the time to share my experience about the three men that came to move my household goods; Elmer, Javier, and Nathan. Please feel free to share this "review" as I plan to post it to Google, Yelp, and wherever else I can find. Initial impression: I was given an arrival time of between 8-830am. Elmer called about 15 minutes before arriving as a courtesy to let me know; they arrived right at 8am. I walked out to meet them and was quickly introduced to all three men. They all presented with a neat appearance, pleasant demeanor, and professionally respectful introduction; firm hand shake, eye contact, and let me steer the pace a bit. The vehicle itself appeared to be well maintained as there were no peeling graphics or paint; it was also very clean in the cargo area and the outside had obviously been recently washed. Beginning the work: After a walkthrough of the premises, for orientation and assessment, Elmer went over the intial pre-move documents. He explained them succinctly and answered any questions that came up, highlighting any areas that may have been cause for extra care or caution. They all three pitched in to bring in packing supplies. During the work: Immediately I can see that these three know the benefit of teamwork. They have either worked together before or already laid a plan out before arriving as there was no discussion on who was going to do what. This was made clear as I had already packed a few things in plastic totes; Javier immediately started taking them out to the truck, Nathan moved to the Master Bed/Bath to begin packing, and Elmer started in on the kitchen. By this time it is perhaps 820am. When a box was packed, it was carried to the truck; that Javier is a machine! Elmer was packing like a speed demon in the kitchen, and Nathan was setting speed records packing the bedroom. Meanwhile, I'm sitting here watching the rooms empty at an astonishing rate, did I mention these guys worked quickly and efficiently? Granted, I had packed many items in totes already and left the more fragile items to the professionals. Even so, it would have taken me easily 8 hours to pack the remainder of items. From the time they arrived to the time they pulled away was around 2.5 hours, maybe less as I wasn't paying that much attention to my watch. Completing the work: It was a 30 or so minute drive to the new place, so we all got here around 11am. Upon arrival we did another walkthrough to orient them on what rooms were where. Fortunately parking isn't an issue here and they were able to back the truck up right in front of the new place. They opened the truck up and proceeded to unload the contents into the house. About 45 minutes later they are done. While Javier and Nathan were packing up the supplies, picking up odds and ends and closing the truck, Elmer and I went over the final paperwork and payment. Due to their efficient teamwork and diligence the bill actually came in UNDER the MINIMUM quoted by about $100. Summary: The entire time, all three men acted in a manner that was above reproach. They were all extremely professional, polite, very well mannered, and in no way did I ever have the slightest doubt that my household goods were in good hands; something I cant say about the majority of movers that I've had experience with. If you want a top notch, best bang for your buck, professional crew to move your household goods, Gentle Giant Movers is the way to go! read more

I cannot express how grateful I am to GG, who rescued me from an absolute nightmare 2-day move. I scheduled a move of my 1 bedroom apartment with a different moving company (not GG), from an elevator building where I was renting to a 4th floor walkup brownstone condo I just bought. I was well-aware that the stairways and doorways of the new condo were narrow and tight, and would pose a real challenge and alerted the moving company of this. Move-in took much longer than expected/estimated, and when they tried to move in my two piece sectional (moderately sized, not a behemoth) they could not fit it through the narrow doorway into my place. I discussed many options with them, including the potential of hoisting and taking it in through a window (which we measured and thought it would fit). After a lot of discussion and push back, the couch ended up returned to my old apartment, which I was supposed to have vacated. Defeated, frustrated, and angry, I started to try to solve this urgent problem. The only thing I could think to do was call a piano moving company, knowing they'd have plenty of experience moving huge things into small places. I called GG first, and I was immediately in good hands. The person I spoke with listened to my whole story (at that point I was probably delirious and babbling) took my info, reassured me I was in good hands and that they understood the urgency, and said he'd have the right person get back to me. The following morning I heard from David, the first of two GG superstars I came in contact with. He said "this sounds like a job for our crane operator, Rooty. We call him 'Rooty the unflappable' because he's handled any and every difficult situation we've ever encountered with ease. He's on a job in the area as we speak: how about I have him come do a site visit when he's done and we'll see if we can get this solved". An hour later, Rooty called to say he was out front. He surveyed the scene, took measurements of the removable window inside my condo, and reviewed the couch measurements. He said, "We can do this--I'll need a lot of space to get the crane in here to get close enough to hoist up, but you're in luck because street cleaning is tomorrow morning and all the cars will be cleared out. I'll meet you back here at 9am." I could have hugged him on the spot, but refrained. The next morning, Rooty arrived a touch earlier than scheduled, we loaded the couch onto the bed of the crane truck, and we headed over to the new place where the street was completely clear. He parked the crane BACKWARDS on our one way street (don't ask me how, dude has been at it 40 years and it shows), unloaded the couch pieces and came up to pop out my window panels. Within 25 minutes, both couch pieces were into my condo through the window, window reassembled, Rooty on his way to save another person in despair, and me and the dog luxuriating in our new place on our beloved old couch. This was all done for a tiny FRACTION of what a new couch would have cost, and turned around in less than 24 hours. I just received a quote for $4500 (without packing) - $5600 (with packing) to move a 2 bedroom apartment from one part of inner Boston to another part of inner Boston. From the estimate and advice on how to make the move go smoothly based on Chris' visit and follow-up Emails, to Erin's call the day before to further ensure that everything was ready to go, you couldn't ask for better coordination. The movers arrived on time, introduced themselves and we did a walk-thru with info on where things were going at the new house and then they went about moving everything. At the new house, we did another quick walk-thru and they unloaded the truck. Very efficient. They were very polite and pleasant to work with. The worst move ever! First, they wanted to charge an additional 27% fuel surcharge claiming it was sent by the Department of Transportation and out of their control which was a total lie. The entire move was quoted in excess of $40,000 to move from CA to SC. They initially said that I didn't have enough to fill a truck and that I'd have to share a truck with another homeowner. At no point did the tell me that they were going to unload their truck and store my belongings in their warehouse. It's 4 months later and I am still missing furniture, personal possessions, some with very high sentimental value, workout clothes, expensive boots, etc. In fact I did have enough for one truck and it would have been full had they not forgotten to load another storage area housing my belongings in their warehouse. They had to make a separate shipment/delivery of those items and it didn't arrive for another 14 days. And there are still items missing as stated above. This company is highly sophisticated and computerized. How in the world do you load a truck and leave behind a substantial part of the shipment? It's beyond me. When my furniture was unpacked, there were gouges and scratches in several pieces, and the top to my dresser which housed our tv was crushed because they placed a heavy object on top of the bridge piece of the furniture. I personally designed that piece and had it built. It's one-of-a-kind and I'm still waiting to hear how they plan to rectify it, along with the damage to the other furniture (even an antique hutch). Boxes were labeled incorrectly and put in the wrong rooms in our new home. The final straw was the bug infestation caused by the packing crew. They removed our insta-pot from the box and used the box to store their garbage; sandwich wrappers with uneaten food; red bull cans, snack bags, etc., and loaded it on the truck. The CEO Tom O'Fallen even called to apologize for the mess they caused. He promised to make everything right all the while he was begging me to pay for the move. Even writing about this makes my blood boil. This company came highly recommended and was a total nightmare. I would NEVER use them again and I hope that people looking for a mover first read their reviews. It might save someone else from experiencing their incompetence. read more

Pros: responsive customer service, easy quoting process, treated all our stuff with great care. Cons: I hired GG to move my 2 bedroom apartment into storage. It was very important to me that everything went into storage since I am going to be living out of a suitcase for the next 6 months. I paid them to pack the kitchen and they left two cabinets unpacked. These were cabinets full of heavy pots and pans that I now have to carry around for the next 6 months. For a $2,200 move, I would have expected more attention to detail and a commitment to completing the job. I have used GG before and they left some of my stuff on the truck when they unloaded, but otherwise it was a good experience but this inattention to detail seems like a pattern. read more

Just used them for a very last minute move for my father. They were accommodating, communicative, SUPER FRIENDLY, and total pros. The crew (Tim Reilly and John Kelly) called me to let me know they were 10 minutes away, also called to ask specifics regarding some articles that my dad had left in the room as well as to let me know when they were on the way to the new destination. Three guys moved a s***load of stuff out in three hours, then south on the expressway and about 2 hours to move in...seven hours door to door.
