What a gem! It was a cold and rainy afternoon and we were on our way to Sequim, Washington, on the western Washington peninsula. We had been on the road driving from Astoria all day and were looking for a place to have an afternoon snack. When we saw the Geoduck, at first we were a bit skeptical because of the collection of motorcycles in front of the place. Hunger won out over skepticism. Once inside, we were pleasantly surprised by the feeling of the place, it has the sense of an old fashioned diner, decorated with a marine feel. it was warm and inviting. The service was very friendly. There was only one waitress serving tables and the counter, but she did not seem at all stressed. She was doing an excellent job. The menu is a great collection of appetizers, soups, salads and entrees. We settled on the clam chowder and the coconut prawns and both were done to perfection. They also have hamburgers, steaks, salmon, oysters and a lot more. The Geoduck takes its name from the giant clam that can be found in the area. Looking forward to going back. read more

Our go-to stop on 101! Hand cut French fries and homemade tartar sauce can't be beat. My boyfriend loves their turkey bacon sandwich on grilled sourdough and always has to show me how much turkey is on it. Their burgers are so big, I cut it into fourths. Last but not least, you gotta try the chowder! The view is amazing as well. They even have binoculars. One time we got to see a mamma and baby elk walk through the field, and there are frequently eagles and salmon feeding on the mouth of the river. Friendly owner and staff. We were staying at a campground nearby and decided to eat out one evening, but when we arrived, there was a sign on the door saying it was closed due to the heat. We understood, given the lack of air conditioning. Two days later, we went back and saw a few groups dining inside, while the deck was full. The food looked good, so we decided to wait for a spot on the deck, especially since we saw a table getting ready to leave. We ordered drinks at the bar but were told we couldn't move to the deck with them because it might confuse the orders. We paid cash for the drinks and then moved to the deck anyway. Our waitress brought us another round of drinks and took our order. After 30 minutes passed, then 60 minutes, we asked if everything was okay. The table next to us even started sharing candy because they had also been waiting over an hour for their food. The waitress admitted that the main cook was out, and the person in the kitchen could only handle one ticket at a time. When we asked if our order had even been started, the answer was "no" and that it could take another 40 minutes. At that point, we canceled our order, paid for the drinks, and went home to finally eat. The view from the deck was amazing--we saw seals playing and a beautiful sunset. Sad that this great lil casual bar is feeling like it's on its way out. Has a pool table, darts, bar or restaurant seating. We were happy to be patient due to short staffing and be offered to order only the food they could make, but wow.. the good: We had tasty fried bar foods (though fries were pretty greasy) and a couple of beers. I've seen this place for decades and have always wanted to check it out. Finally did today, and it didn't disappoint. The interior is exactly what you would imagine and hope it would be. The view is fantastic, and we got to watch seals splash around while we enjoyed Claws in the cool dining area. Didn't try the food, but it looked great on other people's tables. Beautiful spot to relax and enjoy the wildlife in front of you. Eagles and heron and seals and more. You will have plenty of time as service is friendly but hours slow. It took us 2 hours from seating to get our food ordered and delivered. The food is fabulous. My friend prefers the loaded Reuben and another loved the huge burger. I tried a seafood platter with mixed results. The oysters and fish were fresh and delish. But I left the frozen fried prawns and clams and popcorn shrimp. This use to be "the" place to go up here - but it has totally gone downhill from the staff/service to the sub-par food. We rarely go there because the service is so horrible. But after a hard day of work we decided to treat ourselves to dinner. I ordered a short Jack and Coke and he ordered a coke. My beverage arrived as a tall. No biggie. We were promptly told that they "were out a lot of items". Cod, chicken strips, roast beef, etc. I ordered a BLT with fries. He ordered a cheeseburger. We noticed at least 5 couples came in after us. They were all served before us. The waitress came over and said our food would be right up (it's now 6:30). I walked to the bathroom and she caught my attention and then informed me that "the ticket never made it to the window". Huh? How does that happen? It's all punched into a computer?? I went to the bathroom (which was disgusting) and returned to the table and informed my other half (it's now 6:36pm). We decided to leave. We went to the bar to pay and I explained that we were leaving as we did not receive our food and yet others did. She snidely stated that we did not put our order in until 6:25pm. I explained that yes we did but told her that the waitress told me that the ticket never made it to the window. She proceeded to charge us $16.91 for a Jack and coke and a regular coke. Huh? First of all that's pretty steep for one alcoholic beverage and one non-alcoholic beverage... and second of all, that should have been comp'd for us having to wait over a half hour for food. So I messaged the restaurant and got the owner who offered us to come back for a free dinner. She responded very quickly and explained a few things. I understand that it's hard to find good help - and "things" can go awry. I'm hopeful that our next visit is way better. read more

Nice Townie bar and restaurant in this little town. I usually eat at the little pie place just down the road but they are closed on Mondays so this was my first visit here. Nothing not to like. The burger and fries were fine. HUGE burger! Decent price. Left with a smile on my face. Only a few patrons in the place and all of them were having liquid lunches. Mostly old geezers. Well, not as old as me but still, not young guys. Waitress was an old gal who's been at this for eons and of course was the perfect hostess. She's probably also the bar's bouncer. I would sooner tangle with a cobra than mess with her. Nice girl though. I gave them five stars although I'll continue to patronize my usual place unless I happen to hit town on a Monday again. Second time coming in here. The food and the service are both still great! Not to mention that during the pandemic time they were only doing take out. Since now they are on phase 2. They are finally letting customer in to the restaurant. You do have to wear a mask when entering to the building, then you can take off your mask. Gotta follow the safety protocol! One of my favorite item on their menu is their fried clam strips!!! They are delicious. Well fried and crispy, and not to mention a fair portion too. It come with your choice of soup or french fries. I would definitely get their clam chowder. It is delicious as well. Other items on their menu are great too, like their burger or sandwich. After passing the Geoduck many times, I finally made it inside! I was warmly greeted by the bartender. I sat at the bar to be close enough to watch the Seahawks game. I ordered the Deluxe Burger and fries. Everything was prepared quickly. I like this place cause it's got seating for all different occasions and a great, simple menu with something for everyone to enjoy. Beer selection is good here too! read more

We stopped by the Geoduck as part of our Hood Canal Loop drive. Our waitress is busy AND friendly. Starting out good. The bartender gave me two nice size samples of the two IPAs I was considering. The Dabob Bay IPA is a winner. I'm waiting on my "Ty One On" sandwich with oysters, bacon, Swiss cheese, tomato, etc. The view of the Bay and the IPA make it an easy wait - plus a hummingbird just showed up at the flower pot near my feet. My sandwich arrives with a large amount of perfectly cooked fries. And the sandwich- tender lightly breaded oysters, fresh veggies with a healthy amount of sauce, on Killer homemade French bread. More like a soft Ciabatta than a French loaf. So good. 5 stars for a dive bar with restaurant! read more

I just want to start off by saying, there aren't a lot of places to eat in the area, definitely wouldn't say this is a great date spot or something to drive out of the way for, but if you're driving by and hungry- it's decent to stop at. The folks there were friendly and the deck had a nice view. Hopefully with the colder months coming up they'll get some heat lamps. We ordered the coconut shrimp basket and clam strips basket- both with a side of clam chowder and a side of regular fries. I've been watching a lot of worst chefs in America lately so I may be becoming a harsher critic, but I was just pretty underwhelmed. The clam chowder was great. The clam strips were not seasoned well, they weren't hot and some of them were rubbery. They were served with tarter sauce and a cocktail sauce with horseradish in it- kind of funky. The fries were not seasoned and over cooked. The coconut shrimp were pretty good, but could have had a better dipping sauce- it came with the same sauces as the clams. I felt like things were kind of expensive for the quality. My friend felt the prices were okay. Our experience here was okay. The servers were friendly but everything was very slow. read more

I love this place! My husband and I stop here every chance we get. When we get rained out at dose, Melissa is there with good food, cold beer and conversation. Service is great and many times she's doing it all. My favorite thing to get is their burger and it's huge, we sometimes share it. Her new mojito steak bites are wonderful. Honestly, I'd like to give them a 4+. I hadn't been there for YEARS. Like 30! When I first came to visit the PacNW in the mid 90's, I was taken on a driving tour of the Olympic Peninsula via 101. Along the Hood Canal, we stopped at the Geoduck...I can't even tell you what I ate or drank, but the location was what impressed me. Now, since I've been living here for over 25 years, and, of late, on the Olympic Peninsula, I drive by the Geoduck regularly. But, until last week, didn't think to stop in again. On the way back from a ski vacation at White Pass, hubby and I were getting hungry, but we wanted to get as far up the Canal as we could before stopping for a bit and an adult beverage. The Geoduck was just the ticket! It was pretty quiet so we had plenty of space to "socially distance" but more importantly, they had the right beer and an acceptable wine. We ordered a burger, asked for it to be "pink in the middle" and also I ordered a dinner salad. In no time, we had our meal in front of us. The fries were hot and crispy...so good! And, we were able to share the burger and it was just perfect. At one point, the cook came out to ask us how the burger was because he was afraid he might have overcooked it...but he didn't. It was fab! After a long day of skiing and several hours on the road home, this meal was just what we needed. Quiet, legit food, a good burger, a couple of drinks and we were on the road again, only about 1/2 an hour from home. In the future, I may not pass by the big G that often. On a Peninsula where we don't have hundreds of good food offerings, this one is a little gem along the Canal. read more

A friend of mine convinced us to tag along for an afternoon of shooting and 'dinner at a seafood place that's won an award' (no she had never been here before). Their FB page states they were voted best bar by Esquire Magazine in 2011. Knowing what I know now my two cents here would be consider the date, definitely not an award and not even remotely seafood related but I digress. We arrived an hour prior to closing so it was dark but based on the view from our drive in I imagine the patio view from here of the Hood Canal to be fantastic. The interior is reminiscent of an ole' huntin'/fishin' cabin, antique cans and rustic décor, taxidermy on the walls, neon bar signs, a pool table and a wooden boat suspended from the ceiling. Really poor insulation though - it was chilly to begin with but every time the entrance or side exit doors were opened oooo boy expect a strong chill to hit you at the legs and ankles since the interior is just one big giant room. We were seated immediately and our waitress was very sweet. She let us know she was brand new and admittedly knew very little about the menu yet but that the french fries were good. Nearly everything on the menu is deep fried in bubba gump type fashion: fried shrimp, fried oysters, fried fish, fried mushrooms, fried onion rings, fried clam strips, fried chicken sandwich - you get the point. Gluten free? Forget it. Vegan? Noppity no. Please proceed with caution if you truly have an allergy and not just an aversion. Food seemed to take a while and our waitress even commented 'I don't know what's taking so long'. The table did a fried mushroom app, two tye one on oyster burgers + meat patty (an extra $4), one capitan's platter which for some reason is not written on their Covid dry erase board of a menu and I did the deluxe burger. French fries were soggy and truly left something to be desired considering how much mileage those fryers must be getting. My burger was 1/2lb angus beef and the bun for this thing was as big as my face (see pics) but was sadly overcooked, dry, tasted mostly like grill char, not enough fixin's and just straight sad. Hubs enjoyed his oyster burger probably mostly for uniqueness? But did mention his last bite seemed to have a more wiggly oyster that was maybe a touch underdone. I'll also echo that the cocktail sauce is quite spicy. Overall just a meh type experience. If you don't partake in a highly greasy diet you may walk away regretting about half of what you just ate but I could see this being a popular spot considering the minimal nearby alternatives and it's proximity to the water. Certainly not worth making a specific trip for but will do in a pinch. read more

Gorgeous view from this little tavern on Hood Canal. We got a seat on the balcony to better appreciate that incredible view, but the rough-and-tumble atmosphere of the bar inside looked fun too. Just don't come expecting much other than a rustic sort of dive bar with a good view and you'll be fine. Unfortunately, I can't say the food was all that great. And the service -- although our server was super-nice -- was nonexistent. She was so overworked she was hardly around (it looked like she was the only server for the whole place). One of our meals was forgotten for about 20 minutes as well. Also, this isn't a place with any vegan options to speak of. They have a veggie burger on the menu, but when I politely asked if there happened to be any egg or dairy in either the patty or the bun, she went to ask the chefs and returned with, "Sorry, they don't know." Which I thought was super-strange -- how can they not know what they're cooking? Even if the patties or buns were from a package, can't they quickly glance at the package ingredients? So I was left eating fries only, and they weren't even very tasty fries. My parents had regular burgers and said they were just OK, nothing great. Long story short, come here for the rustic dive-y vibe and incredible view, and maybe have a few drinks instead of actually dining here. read more

We hadn't so she graciously took our order and gave us our drinks. She then returned to her normal duties. Over the course of the next hour, two bar servers served others, took care of their bills, brought them menus and food, and totally ignored us. We had planned to have lunch here and a couple of drinks, but due to a total lack of quality bar service, we decided to leave. That wasn't even easy. Our plastic cups empty and eventually stacked in an effort alert someone, and our twenty dollar bill on the counter. We waited, and waited, and waited. 10 minutes. Who should appear to help us out. The same gal (we didn't get her name) from earlier. Again, if this is the service you like when visiting the bar of a restaurant, venture over. HOWEVER, give them a call to see if the restrooms are open. When we visited we learned the bathrooms have been closed for a long time due to a septic tank issue, which, again as we were told, the owner has been working on and spent thousands of dollars on to fix. I only know there are three port-a-potties for your restroom needs. This did make us wonder how does the kitchen drain its dirty water from washing dishes or rinsing foods? On the positive not, the view off the outside deck where customers can sit for meals, is excellent. Hopefully, the septic will be fixed soon and the owner(s)/manager(s) will correct the poor service issue creating are great place to enjoy food and several beverages. read more

I live really close to the Geo and have been there several times in the past. Kinda stayed away during Covid, but decided to stop last weekend for a beer. It's such a great dive bar with a killer view. Food has never been that good, but it's a tavern so what do you expect. After drinking half of my beer, I got the urge to nosh on something. The couple next to me had this nacho looking dish, but with fries rather than chips. I had to order it and got exactly what I deserved. It was a cheesy, greasy pile of fries topped with sour cream, chives and tomatoes. The exact thing I would eat with no qualms at 2 AM after drinking, but not as easy to digest in the cold light of day. Overall not bad, but would not order that again (unless it's 2 AM).
