We contacted H&L Motors is Dublin and sent them pics. Frank estimated € 500 for the work. We brought it to them by Friday at noon and they returned it Monday at 4. Looked perfect and we returned it to the rental car company at Dublin AP and there was no issue. H&M did a great job and it saved us the months of arguing with the rental and credit card companies. If they would not cover us I am sure that the rental company would have charged more than € 1000 so many thanks Hopkins & Lockhart!

Baldoyle Auto Centre
I was just thinking about my experience with Baldoyle Auto Centre, and decided to write a review…read more I am from the USA (San Francisco) where auto repair can be rather, shall we say, predatory. Not in all cases, but in more than half, you're going to get gutted. Imagine my trepidation on moving to Ireland, buying a used VW Polo and having a loud BANG emminate from the engine compartment, followed by the smell of burning rubber. I'm in country 3 weeks. Don't know Polos ("3 cylinders? You're kidding!"), don't know ANY auto repair I can trust. Well, I had hired a carpenter who lived in Howth (near Baldoyle) all his life. He recommended Baldoyle Auto Centre. So I limped over there and threw myself on the mercy of the owner. I noticed his shop was clean and well-lighted. His workers were all very focused. No cigarettes. No shaved heads. No track suits. Hmmmm. The owner made a lot of eye contact in a way that led me to trust him. Sincerity is detectable. He said he could look at the car in a few days. He gave it a going over to make sure it was safe, then turned me loose. The problem was likely a broken spring. The car handled ok. The burning rubber smell was the serpentine belt, which had been crudely manhandled onto the car by a previous mechanic, damaging it. I returned in three days, the car was surrendered and I was kept abreast of the findings in the shop as work progressed. No unpleasant surprises. Broken spring. (replaced both sides at the same time. Minimal cost). Upper strut mount mangled, which caused the spring failure. Cheap fix. A bushing on the opposite side of the car required replacement. OK. Do it. And throw in a set of hubcaps because on Ireland's narrow roads, I had beaten the set on the car up pretty badly. Total cost: 400 euro. The car drives like new and the hubcaps helped with the cosmetics. Further, I was told that all the things that likely go wrong with Polos had now been fixed on this car, giving me peace of mind for the foreseeable future. It is so difficult to find trustworthy auto repair facilities, so when you find one, you want to share it with your friends, and that's what I'm doing here and on the streets. I later became aware of the amazing story of how Baldoyle Auto Centre came into being, but that's another subject. You can trust these people implicitly. What's THAT worth to you?

I was recommended to go to Gerard Lee Motors by my brother who has had his cars serviced by them for years & I have to say I was very impressed by the efficiency, from initially seeking a quote over the phone for specific repair work to be done, to the call back response (with quote which was competitive as I tried 3 other garages) within 15 minutes to getting the car in & repaired within 3 days and on the day to get a call in the afternoon to say it was ready at the time I was promised when I dropped it off that morning at 8.30am. I highly recommend Jason of Frascati Motors. My experience has quite simply been superb. On the…read morefirst occasion he resurrected my elderly car, which I feared was unlikely to happen, and the whole service charge was shockingly reasonable. Quite simply my very dead and elderly car was reanimated and drove like a dream. This time around, my now even more elderly car (current age 19 years) had developed multiple problems during the pandemic and I ultimately just took it off the road and let it sit in storage for a prolonged period. I knew that there was a major problem with the brakes, coupled with the fact that the lock on the car's boot had become highly unpredictably dysfunctional. It also needed a general service and preparation for the NCT. I dropped it off and confirmed with Jason that the garage would likely close circa 6pm. He contacted me later in the morning when he had evaluated the car and explicitly informed me about the most expensive aspect of the work needed (which was absolutely essential to permit safe driving). He asked if I wanted to proceed with the work, which I confirmed that I did. He then messaged me to let me know that the necessary parts would be delivered at 5pm and that the car would be ready for collection at 8pm. I was stunned that he was perfectly willing and ready to get the job done on the same day and stay late at work to do this. The car was ready on time; he'd done extensive work on the brake system (which he described as having been "tricky" to do); he'd sorted the lock on the boot (which he said had been "even more tricky" [I knew that he was telling the truth about this, as I'd endured massive unpredictability with the lock's behaviour!]); and he'd also completely rejuvenated the car's headlights (cleaning and reconditioning the glass, ensuring good penetrance of the light beam, and checking headlight alignment), as the material had so decayed that little light was actually getting through. Jason explained everything that he had done to the car (right down to the fluid he'd added to aid suppleness of plastic washers in the engine) and he gave me a fully itemized invoice (including VAT). The car now drives perfectly! My experience of Jason is that he is a consummate professional; he is a direct and straight talker (which I like); and my impression is that he doesn't take fools gladly. He reminds me of my dad, which is very reassuring. My dad trained as a fitter with the railway; he also obtained his senior trade certificates as a car mechanic (1950s!); and he ultimately became a teacher. He always said to trust the professionals in their discipline and not to try to dictate to them. He never attempted to service his own car (N.B. his car mechanic experience was early 1950s!). Some people may find Jason blunt, but my take on it is that he is honest, polite, professional and clear on what is needed to get the job done properly. I am a professional man (a medical discipline) and I completely identify with and understand Jason's stance. I actually find it highly reassuring to know that I am in the hands of a professional, who will tell me the truth without any embellishment. I have to also be very honest and say that Jason spontaneously gave me a 5% discount on my recent bill (perhaps as I was a repeat customer), which I didn't query and was delighted to accept! He didn't have to do it and he made no drama about it. I have seen some negative reviews about Jason and Frascati Motors. None of these negative reviews reflect my experience as a repeat customer of Frascati Motors; and my impression is that none of them actually reflect the quality of the work done but may reflect interpersonal disagreements. If a service is provided, it must be paid for. I am delighted to recommend Frascati Motors as being a 7* (7 star) service. Dr Cian Denihan MCRN 013177
