I took my car, an older Honda Civic, in for brake work. They replaced the front and rear brake pads and checked the whole car. They found a belt that was cracked so I asked them to replace that too. They were honest and reliable and saved the old parts to show me and explain the repairs. I asked about a tuneup, and they said I wasn't due for a few thousand more miles, which allowed me spread out my expenses a bit. Very friendly, helpful, and convenient. I was able to get an appointment the next day. The price was fair and reasonable. Very happy that they're in my neighborhood! If you're 1) a woman of any age; 2) don't know much about cars/DMV registration & the like, DO NOT go to this place. Being a bit rough/coarse is fine by me, I sure don't expect my auto repair guy to become my friend but Eric explained absolutely nothing--No, I did not know what a Star rating was, in his capacity as an auto repair person AND someone in direct contact with customers, it was his job to explain that to me, instead of sending me away and letting me wait for a smog check for nearly 30 mns only to tell me he could do nothing for me. I tried to get a quote from Hoffman Automotive, but they wouldn't even hear me out. They just told me that they have to see it, and hung up on me. took a car that died coming off the freeway in. it wouldn't start anymore. $95 for a diagnosis revealed timing belt. $700 for timing belt and water pump sounded fair. Got it back car was misfiring and check engine light came on within 50mi. This place is closed on weekends and doesn't have an answering machine. Took it back first thing this morning. They say its not their fault and they didn't need to test drive the car after the repairs. They wanted another $95 to diagnose. I took it to someone who will test drive it after the repairs this time. We shall see how that goes. Edit: Turns out wires in the car were OEM like from 2003 plugs were bad too... a little customer service and i would have been a happy camper and they would have had another $200 or so of my money. An honest great mechanic in Davis. My check engine light came on while working in Davis for a month. I bought the part intending to do it myself but it proved to be too difficult to do. These guys used the part I already purchased, didn't try to sell me anything extra and were a pleasure to deal with. Replaced the serpentine belt since it was severely cracked and didn't charge me extra for the labor, just the part since they were already in there. I was charged was I was quoted plus the additional part which was very affordable. Amazingly nice guys who run the place and they did not try to sell me any unnecessary items. I always take my car to George's Auto any time I need a repair. They are honest, reliable and reasonably priced. Nothing "fancy" about their shop but they get the job done, they don't try to "oversell" by telling you that you need things done that don't need to be done, and they are very accommodating. They've performed some major work on my car, and minor things like oil changes. One time I stopped by unannounced because I thought one of my tires was flat and he said nothing was wrong with the tire - it just needed some air, which he did for me, gratis! It was a waste of money ($45) to get my car's brake issue diagnosed here. I brought my Saturn ion here because it pulls to the right each time I brake hard. After 1 hr of diagnosis, these guys came back and told me that everything was working fine. They aslo show me the measurements of the brake shoes thickness - which were still okay. I disagreed with their assessments and brought my car to Vicker's Auto repair shop. Vicker's shop diagnosis was completely different! While 3 of the brake shoes were okay, one was extreme thin and had to be replaced immediately. I actually got back the problematic brake shoes and confirmed them myself. In addition, Vicker's Auto repair found that the brake cylinder has an issue that caused the car to pull right each time I brake hard. All I can say is these guys are incompetent, at least when it comes to diagnosing car brake issues! Wish I can have my money back. read more

The cost of service for various repairs is always less than I expect after googling the problem. They are extremely honest, always showing you the bad/broken part that they replaced, and they are both fast (although I always call before I bring my car to make sure they can take it that day) and very friendly, too.
