This morning, around 7am, I woke up to find my fridge wasn't cooling properly. I googled "Chicago Appliance Repair" and called the first top rated place I saw. There I spoke to a nice receptionist that took my info and told me a repairman would call back shortly. I didn't know how long it would take, so I kept looking and came across this page for George. I called him about 7:30 and he picked up himself. Not some receptionist or dispatcher, but the guy that would come out to fix the problem. He asked a few questions, then told me he could be there by 10am. I called into work and waited. At 9:13am, George called and said he was out front and asked if I was home. He immediately got to work, and diagnosed the problem as a bad thermostat. He luckily had the part in his van. Then he discovered the fan motor had burnt out and should be replaced. He did not have this part on hand, but drove up to Evanston to a supplier and found it. By 12:00pm, a mere 4.5 hours after I called him, my fridge was cold and he was on his way out. Woke up this morning to our fridge not really cooling anymore. What a great way to star the day, right!?!? So I got on my trusty yelp, found george and gave him a call. He asked me few questions about the problem and the make and model of our fridge. He said he couldn't come until the afternoon, but that if we were going to be around, he might be able to come a little earlier...well, he was and ended up at our house only an hour and a half after we called him! I was so impressed. He quickly went to work and fixed the problem...he also fixed my ice maker which had been broken for some time now...yes! He finished it all in under 30 minutes and now our fridge is working beautifully. I am thrilled with the entire transaction and would recommend George's services to anyone who needs them. George is great. (He repairs all appliances not just fridges) His prices are fair and he's a very calm guy who works & explains things very carefully. I think he's my new go-to guy for appliance repair. I had an oldie but goodie stackable washer dryer (13 yrs old) and had been told by other repair guy that it is a good unit and that I should not race to replace it since it's sturdier than the new ones. George let me bring a part I had purchased on E-bay for $60 - he checked it out (it's under warranty too) pronounced it fit for duty, and then installed it for me. Another repair guy wanted to sell me a new one - (wouldn't install used part) That would have been about $230 for new part and the install about $120. George was very quick to answer and was able to see me on the same day. He was accommodating to my schedule and was willing to give me a call 45 min. before his arrival so I could leave work to meet him. He and his son worked quickly to assess the problem and gave me a clear description of what happened. He gave me some tips for the future so my compressor wouldn't overheat again--make sure you keep some space between the fridge and the wall people! As an added bonus he even fixed my ice maker which had been leaking in the back and causing the hardwood floor to buckle--a problem which another repairman was unable to fix. I will definitely use George for all of my future fixes however, I hope I don't need to see him again soon! read more

I noticed my 7 yr old Maytag fridge appeared to be having problems cooling the upper (fridge) part...lower freezer section was working ok. After I described the symptons on the phone...he was able to diagnose the actual problem as it turns out. He showed up the next day and confirmed what the problem was (ice blocking air flow) and he reset the electronics so the compressor/fan were working ok. He offered to use a hair dryer to unblock the ice...but I said I would do it and it took about 30 minutes and the cold air was flowing again. He asked for $75...but I gave him $80. This guy has a lot of experience and appears to know his stuff. Could not have worked out better. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. read more

George is wonderful. He was willing to service our air conditioner the next day...6:00 P.M. on a Friday. The first company we had look at it said we needed a new unit and wanted to charge us close to $2000. George took a look at the unit, said it was dirty, cleaned it for us, refilled the coolant and charged us $185. He then did a quick look at our appliances (we just bought our place and he also repairs all major appliances) and gave us advice on how to keep them clean so we could keep our maintenance to a minimum. We quickly realized that our refrigerator had stopped working. We called another refrigerator repairman that was listed on Yelp, he couldn't make it until 2 days later. Not wanting to lose all of our food, we then called George. 45 minutes later, George arrived at our door. He went quickly to work and found the problem in a matter of minutes. It took approximately one hour from beginning to end and George was really great about cleaning up while he worked so we didn't have a mess on our hands. Professional, quick, reasonable prices. We called George when our refrigerator stopped working. He came, same day, and noted that the compressor needed replacement. As the compressor's warranty had expired a week earlier, he suggested we call GE to see if they would still honor the warranty. If not, he recommended purchasing a new appliance as the repair would be approximately $800. He left without charging us for the call. George's suggestion was wonderful as GE agreed to replace the compressor at no cost to us! Thank you, George, and we will call you as the other parts go out! read more

5 star does not do George justice. My older GE washer was not throwing water out so the water would fill and just sit (and smell). I looked up George on Yelp, called him around 3pm, he showed up at 6:30 after leaving another job (on a Saturday), and not only fixed my original problem of the water filling but also made the water fill faster in the water and at a more fuller stream. All for $150. Easy and knows what he's doing, definitely an honest businessman. He only takes cash or check. read more

Great service! George came out the same day and was accommodating enough to come late in the evening. He was patient with the service as it took over an hour for my fridge to defrost. He then changed the part, gave me other tips and even helped me move my fridge and clean the back (dust gathering there can effect the compressor). So happy! I called George on a Saturday because I thought my refrigerator was dying. He came on Monday evening when I was available. Cost was $90 for visit and thorough cleaning of the coils. Turns out the issue was a piece of cardboard that was hitting the condenser fan. I learned quite a bit. George does stoves and dishwashers, too. He is my go-to guy! read more
