To be honest, my average rating is just because I am not such a fan of castle tourism, but I am sure it is a fine example, and is now a cultural centre for the Flemish community. There is also hostel style accommodation available, and wonderful grounds and fields to walk around, with the village of Bilzen (population 1000) a couple of kilometres away.

The staff is very friendly and all speak English (which I found was not that common in Germany). The room was really nice and picture perfect clean, literally couldn't find a single flaw. The hostel is open 24 hours so you have time to explore Cologne as long as you want. The breakfast was great as well with a nice and calm ambiance. This combined with the location, price, cheap parking in own garage and great public transport access nearby (and public transport guidance by the hostel staff) I couldn't recommend it more. Close by everything but far enough away so that it was not crazy noisy at night. The rooms were comfortable and modern and all towels/sheets were included. This hostel is a bit different than others that I have been to because there were also a lot of families here as well. The Internet was good and fast and the breakfast was great. In fact, I felt like I was staying at a brand new 3 star hotel. Rooms are immaculately clean, and quiet. My room had 3 bunks in it, but I was alone! Bathroom was inside the room and enormous-private shower and toilet, completely secluded and really spacious/clean. Staff was really helpful and kind. Elevator and free breakfast. By far the nicest hostel I have ever stayed at in my life. I can't believe it was only €20 per night.
