If you want a classic bar food meal, George's is the place to go! My family and I have been going for years. The parking is sometimes packed, but you can always park at the adjacent businesses around the corner (I think all of them are closed currently.) It is a bit chaotic inside, but just part of the George's experience! Order at the counter first - I recommend going and grabbing a ticket from the stack they keep at the front and just writing your own order. Saves time from the line as it can sometimes get long. You can't go wrong with your order. On Fridays, get the thin-cut catfish. The classic hamburger and onion rings are delicious. I usually go for the chicken finger plate with fries to keep it simple! Once you sit, they call out names on the orders for when you go back up to pay & pick it up. Sometimes the seating is limited, but you can always find rogue chairs and pull tables together. Go back up to the bar for refills, the girls that work up there are AWESOME and have it running very efficiently back there. Like I said, George's is a true bar food experience. There's always a sports game on, and there's an arcade for the kids to play in (with some tables in it too)! Where the company I was with was great I can't say so much for the rest. The drinks were good. The muffaletta was hands down the absolute WORST I've ever had! I don't know if they make their own olive mix for it but umm NO, just NO. Start over! The meat was hard as a rock. I had a few bites and trashed the rest of it. To top things off the waitress that stayed behind the bar started yelling and screaming and even lashed out on the customers. 5 stars for the best fried catfish in town! I'm super picky when it comes to seafood. I always remove the dark line of meat down the middle of catfish before cooking. By doing this, the fish won't taste super fishy or have that slimy gray stuff on the inside. Most restaurants do not remove this but George's does! I've had the fried catfish at George's several times now and I've never been disappointed. The fish is always cleaned well and taste so fresh! During this visit, I subbed out the fries for their onion rings. We also had the special of the day which was the red beans, rice, and sausage. Very good as well! Just the burger place we were looking for. Very casual & cozy spot to eat. I had the cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and both were delicious. I was visiting Baton Rouge this week and went by here for lunch with colleagues from work. The food was excellent. The service was horrible. The owner or manager running the counter and taking orders was extremely rude. He made us write down our own orders on an order slip, was very harsh and abrasive. No flavor at all , they didn't even attempt to season them . 1/10 onion rings . Catfish is the only saving Grace of this order . Actually seasoned and taste pretty good 7/10 on the catfish. Fries are ass , obviously not seasoned and were cold 2/10. Overall very let down by this order and won't be ordering again . Love this location of George's on the corner of starring lane in Baton Rouge. We stop here regularly. The menu has more options than typical sports bar food. Customers are asked to wear masks while ordering and walking around. At this place you order at the bar and then take a seat at your table or at the bar and they bring everything to you. We love the poboys but this time I didn't want a sandwich so I ordered a fried catfish plate which came with a side of fries and side salad. These were thin cut perfectly cooked pieces of catfish-crisp on the outside and tender on the inside and lightly seasoned-I hate when places over salt but these were good. Hubby got the chicken club sandwich with fries. George's makes the best club sandwiches. Lots of layers of fresh ingredients and crisp bacon. As usual, we enjoyed it. read more

This is a small restaurant and has a cozy, dimly lit, friendly atmosphere. Not alot of seating inside. There were maybe 12 to 15 tables total. There is a small play area for kids outside and bar with tables and a dance floor outside under cover. They give you the order pad to write your own order down. They read it back to double check that they know exactly what you want. I thought that part was kind of fun and different. I ordered the cheese steak and was surprised when it was served on regular toast and it was chunks of steak instead of the shaved steak that most are used to for a cheese steak sandwich. Went to George's for 1st time in ages for takeout. The catfish poboy was good, not great, but the pastrami sandwich was the WORST I've ever tried to eat. I do not recommend the pastrami on rye. It came with Swiss cheese, but no sour kraut and very little sauce. The rye bread was mostly burnt. For a $13 sandwich, I expect better. Again, the worst pastrami sandwich I've ever eaten. Arby's pastrami is the best, hands down. The onion rings were very good, as were the cheesy fries. Given I can get catfish elsewhere, I won't be going back for ages, if ever. There's nothing fancy about it but I love it. To me it's perfect in all of it's unpretentious and laid back awesomeness. The burgers are the best I've had in the area. I love the thick, hand formed patties topped with pepper jack cheese and grilled onions and mushrooms. They cook them to order (as they should) and always get my medium perfectly medium. The other thing that really stands out here are the ONION RINGS. Theirs are perfectly cut, seasoned just right and have the perfect batter to ring ratio. Look, I'm a bit of a weirdo when it comes to onion rings and if they are too soggy, too thick, too greasy or even too thin I'm not ordering them ever again at said restaurant and might just cross them off for any future visit entirely. Yeah, I know. But I love onion rings fiercely. So if you like them like I do, try George's. I think you'll agree. Prices are reasonable especially considering the portions here are very large (I've never been able to finish more than half of my burger and always bring it home for dinner). I come here once a month for the Redstick Brewmaster's meeting (Google them). They have a decent selection of beer and the food is good. It's a good little bar and grill spot. If you live in the area and want something kid friendly that has something for everyone, this is your place. Check out the burger or po'boys. It's old, dark, divey and although it appears sketchy, the food is legit. Surprisingly the Southside George's has done an excellent job capturing everything I love about the original. Ordering is done at the bar. The menu is posted in a giant chalk board above where you order. I suggest you try the burger po-boy, cheese fries and onion rings. The rings are hand cut and among the best I've ever had. These cheese fries are loaded with melted cheese and jalapeños and are also among the best I've ever had. Both are offered in small or large portions, but the small is enough for two people to split. The burger po-boy is great. If you think a plain burger is the bees knees, put that bad boy on New Orleans style French bread and watch what happens. Prepare to have your mind blown. George's uses the right bread which makes all the difference. The burger itself isn't some fancy blend of whatever the blend burgers with, but it's homestyle and exactly the way I like it. Service is friendly, but the only real interaction you have with employees is when ordering. You pay upon pick up at the bar and you're expected to get your own utensils, napkins, etc. that doesn't bother me, but if it bothers you, I'd look elsewhere. I recently ordered a take out burger because the reviews gushed about how the burgers were so great...I don't know how people like their burgers down here...but where I'm from, bland and tasteless does not a good burger make. The burger was not seasoned and overcooked, the cheese tasted cheap and the tomato was over-ripened. The fries and onion rings were equally bland and tasteless, but on a good note, I ordered and paid for a small and if actually received a small serving size, the small is HUGE. I'm dating myself when I say this but - fortunately - I don't care! But I was "late adopter" of the TV series "Cheers", but once I was pulled in, I was pulled in. And one of the things that pulled me in was the whole idea of a "neighborhood pub" - the community of people for whom that place was a second home. That's the "feel" I get from George's when I walk in. I feel like I'm among friends - most of whom I've never met - but friends nonetheless. It's like we all kind of "know" - this is "our" place. I've been coming here for over a decade. There are fewer dollar bills clinging to the ceiling than when I first came, but they're still present. The kitchen is steady, rock solid. They aren't trying to produce gourmet food here. Just really good, basic food, sometimes with a twist, but always predictably well done. The staff are always friendly, the food is well prepared, the place is clean and well maintained - and yet if you spill something - you're pretty sure no one cares - and the atmosphere is relaxed - great place to watch sports or just hang with friends. Today I had the "California BLT" - very nicely done with all that you expect but the surprise ingredient is the avocado which works WELL. I got a seafood combo with fish and shrimp $25.00 and I wanted onion rings instead of french fries , and that was a $4.75 up charge. I got a hot sausage poboy . For $7.25 and no French fries when I placed my order I asked for a a hot sausage Po boy combo she did not tell me they did not tell me they didn't, have a hot sausage po boy the food is really not worth $41.64 .I was very disappointed. And waited all to get this to eat and was very disappointed never again never again.
