A couple days ago I had occasion to be in Abilene, TX, not really by choice as I was lost and…read moretrying to get back home to Arizona, but I did hear the wonderful old song "Abilene" by George Hamilton IV (from 1963!) on SiriusXM as I was driving aimlessly about Texas, a rather large state ("It's like a whole other country!"). My cell phone was not working, and I was rather rattled as I was an older woman traveling alone and these days that seems a bit scary, especially when you don't have a way to call 911 from the road. Also no one sells maps anymore. :( This extremely friendly, smiley, helpful young woman working in the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau was my angel in disguise. She gave me a Texas map -- for free! (they're ginormous like the state) -- and also an Abilene map and even highlighted it and gave me written directions to their local Verizon store so that I could try to get my phone working again. She even let me call home to tell my hubby that I was all right and where I was at and headed. Two were for fun and one for business…read more Even though they were small trips that didn't involve a cruise, they were very helpful with everything including the hotel, rental cars and even a list of kid friendly activities once we arrived at our destination. They even told me when it might be cheaper for me to book something on my own. I will not travel anywhere without first making a call to Cruise Planners. Hopefully, we can book a real cruise with them before long.
