Allowing overnight parking, I was all parked and set here but it's very much out in the middle of nowhere. So much that I had no cell phone coverage and since I was not able to figure out the wifi password from looking in the windows (they were closed), I opted not to stay as it was just too desolate for my comfort. The visitors center does welcome people as they cross over from South Carolina. During business hours, there are restrooms and an attendant who can help with Georgia attractions and accommodations. They had a bunch of "Georgia" merchandise for sale and Coke products on tap. But that was closed when I was here. You may have a different experience. We have been traveling around the country for four months and have stopped in many visitor centers along the way. The visitor center in Sylvania Georgia was by far the best, as well as the oldest visitor center in the United States. We were greeted with the friendliest and most informative staff member who immediately offered us a delicious cold cup of Coke. We learned so much about the music, surrounding historic sites, and H L Franklins bee products. It is a bit off the beaten path but worth every mile! Way to go, Georgia! read more

I was traveling up North, and one of my favorite places to stop along US 301 is the Georgia State Border Welcome Center, just South of the South Carolina border! I have been stopping at this location for years, and it is fun to see pretty much the same faces at the station every time. This time around it was a new face, but she was very knowledgeable and I even learned a couple of new things about the location, such as it now being the oldest welcome center in the country (she said the oldest was one in Florida near Yulee on US 17, but it has since closed down. However, I have now come to find that the oldest was in fact in Michigan on US 12 South of New Buffalo, back in 1935... also closed now.) This welcome center with it's 1960's era futuristic construction and pleasant staff are worth a detour off of the main Interstate thoroughfares, if for no other reason than to grab a free cup of Coca-Cola! read more

Robert was wonderful! What a sweet helpful guy. My mother and I are from New England and the people down south have been so welcoming. Robert was no exception! The motel and restaurant information for 301 was very helpful. Even if you don't need directions it's worth stopping just to meet a great guy. Thank you! read more
