So off I went to the blood bank, my working day over. I filled out the necessary forms and waited for my name to be called up. After my quick one on one session I was in the chair. Feeling fine my first mistake was watching the needle go in. My second mistake was that I kept watching the needle and the blood that kept pumping out of it and into the bag. How much did they intend on taking? Why am I feeling light headed all of a sudden? I'll be honest, I didn't pass out but I felt woozy and that can be quite common for first time donors. As I got up to the couch to rest, with my small bag of chips, chocolate bar and juice comforting me I vowed never to come back. Well I have gone back and I can say it's never been like that time. I can watch it all unfold and I don't feel any discomfort. The negative experiences from my first visit are gone but the positives like time off work and the 'fun pack' of goodies you receive on completion are still there. And most importantly it does help out, so if you can give it a shot.

They show you to a little room where you get nekkid and throw in a black tissue-paper robe that makes you look like some kind of massage ninja and then you step into the magic room and a lady tells you different ways to stand while a robot with x-ray vision perves on you and takes happy snaps. Then you sit in the waiting room like a blue-walled purgatory for your results, and cough up some cash and ideally a Medicare card, because they don't bulk bill and aren't a member of HICAPS.

They asked when I was free to come in, I said I'm 10 minutes away, is there any chance I could come in now? They helpfully said they could probably squeeze me in. I got there quick smart, and they did indeed fit me in. That meant I didn't have to book another appointment, and didn't have to take any more time off work. Nice!
