A perfect spot for small plates and a cool wine! We arrived as the opened and got sat with no reservation. They did pack out about 45 min later so I would recommend making a reservation. The staff was kind and helpful on recommendations. She even brought out two of their wines for me to try and decide between. We had the olives, tuna belly (in season) and steak tartare. All were perfect. The olives went well with our wine and the tuna belly was flavorful and juicy. The steak tartare was a highlight. Perfect consistency and topped with a runny egg, as it should be. They open at 7:30 pm on the dot, I would recommend getting there right when they open if you don't have a reservation. From start to finish our meal was exceptional, quite possibly the best meal we had during our three nights in San Sebastián! The veggie salad was so fresh and tasty, the drinks were exquisite and we finished off with the meat tagliatelle which was unreallllll! Server was very rude right at the beginning. We basically cannot order any meat entrees because she said it took them more than an hour to cook it. Food was ok not that memorable, but the experience was definitely was. Pretty bad! I would not recommend to anyone. read more

This is located in the more residential area in SB but still close the to city center. We stayed at Hotel Maria Cristina and it was a 10 min walk. This is an example of a place where locals go and tourists sometimes overlook. I rarely give 5 stars but this place is a true gem. I went to so many Pinxto places and I ordered anchovies everywhere and this place has the best anchovy dish. Our server also recommended the omelette with mushroom for DINNER, at first we were hesitant but im glad we had it. The owners of this place are Australian but it doesn't prevent them from serving basque dishes that are truly excellent. Maybe its because they add a twist to the dishes but whatever it is, it works very well. I also want to point out that the service here is very good. I've noticed that if you go to these casual pinxto places, the service is very ho hum, sometimes even cold and impersonal. Not this place, our Australian server was very warm, friendly and on point. This is what a true value restaurant is... Simple dishes that are executed exceptionally well and with prices that are very reasonable. Gerald's Bar was a refreshing oasis for us on our 5 day San Sebastian vacation stop. We really loved the English Pub "feel" of the bar and the actual bar area was very nice to sit at ane enjoy some brews and food. Gerald's isn't a typical bar, they don't do pintxtos like almost every other bar does, but they have their own take on local Basque food and appetizers. I had a 1/2 portion of a risotto plate which was sufficient for me and left plenty of stomach space for the real reason we were there, the beer. There were 4 beers on tap and 3 of the 4 were local/regional and were good. If you are looking for a clean, friendly and welcoming place to relax and have a few drinks and some good food, then Geralds is a place you need to consider. Also, with Austrialian roots, we had the pleasure of having Gerald's daughter wait on us and she spoke perfect English, which made our visit that much better. read more

This was a nice find near our the Pension Aida where we stayed in San Sebastián. The city is amazing but it was good to find one place that does their own style of business. The cocktails can get a little costly but the are delicious. Try it, you will like it. read more

I.e., we were expecting good food but were met with fantastic modern cuisine, creatively prepared, fantastic service, fantastic wine, and a top-end gastropub atmosphere. Stumbled across this restaurant and we were so happy that we did! One of the best meals we had in San Sebastian. Ordered the tomato and vanilla appetizer and an entree of Hake fish with ratatouille. I found Gerald's to be the perfect place for a nightcap and a light late snack. The staff is friendly, and the place does have a really good comfortable feel. One of the owners chatted with us for a while and was very gracious and genuine. Our favorite meal in Donostia. All around... drinks were great, wine was delicious, and there were some tasty beers on tap. The food was the best and is a nice change from the 100+ pinxto bars in the area. Great staff and service make sure to make a reservation. While you could always sit at the bar for a full meal. A MUST. We tried everything on the menu as we went back three times during our stay. Getting to eat a fabulous burger amidst pinxtos in San Sebastián is welcome diversity. The wine list is wonderful. Gerald's gives a twist on what the perfect blend of the best of what Spain and an English pub have to offer. Get the crudo, any of the burgers and all the pinxtos you can handle. read more
