I got the breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel with a side of hashbrowns - delicious.... Exactly what I was wanting, nothing fancy or overdone... just simple!!! My brother got the BLT on white with a side of bacon (because who doesn't love more bacon??) - he ate every crumb on the plate!! This is a must visit when in CBUS, nothing crazy fancy... but simple... original!! We need more original in our lives... so definitely give this place a shop... again worth the line!! read more

Seriously good food. I was greeted kindly and promptly upon my arrival. This place gives off that hole in the wall, welcoming vibe that you crave when eating at a diner. Everyone, including the patrons were wonderful to be around. The experience from the front door to the plate was absolutely wonderful! I went with the Mushroom & Swiss Burger and the flavors presented were phenomenal! Such a juicy burger and well balanced with the toppings. Looked like a solid spot for an all American diner. There was a bit of a wait but got seated with 10-15 mins. Good to see local businesses busy. Server took my order and waited over 45mins with no food in sight. Manager came over and said they lost my ticket so had to restart my order. Took over 1.15 hrs to get my food. The manager and waitress were apologetic and took care of the bill. The food was delicious! Mistakes happen and I think we have to give grace to people. It wasn't the end of the world and the parties at fault took responsibility. Thankfully I wasn't in a rush. No doubt I will return should I crave good diner food at a small, local establishment. This is a great place for breakfast; I know it gets really busy at certain times, but we (my aunt, her friend and myself) met here at 9 on Monday morning. We got a booth right away and were served coffee. We each decided on entrees; I ordered 2 eggs with hash browns & rye toast. After that I saw on the specials board they had Peach Cobbler Pancakes. Yum. I ordered this as an additional, to go. The food was great, and so inexpensive that I wish I lived closer. This place is always busy but for good reason! My most recent visit was on an early Saturday morning. There was about one person in front of us and we waited about 15 mins, but the line was building while we were waiting so make sure to get there early. They don't let you choose whether you sit in a booth or at bar, which I was fine with, but is something to keep in mind. I got an omelette with cheese, bacon, spinach, jalapeños, and hash browns! Loved being able to have the hash browns inside the omelette, it was so good. The bacon was also thick and delicious and my server let me know they buy their meat from a local butcher and the majority of the food is local! I love this place, the vibes are great, the food is good, and the staff is always friendly. Always a good spot for breakfast or brunch, and German village is such a fun neighborhood. read more

I would really like to give 4.5 stars. The only reason it's not 5 stars is they left bacon off of our breakfast sandwich. We were in for lunch today 12/23/2024. It was quite busy but seating was ready in an acceptable amount of time. They greet every person that comes in and the staff really hustles. This has been around forever, and I think I remember coming here when I lived in GV in the '90s. Right next to Thurman's, so be careful which door you pick (there's a sign on the door, because so many people pick the wrong one.) Old school diner. Not what you'd think of as a modern coffee shop. We love Fox in the Snow, and almost went there, but there was a crazy line and we wanted more than just pastries. You can get coffee here- as in, coffee, and add your own cream and sugar. And they have standard breakfast offerings. We got breakfast sandwiches, and again, not your froufrou modern ones. Something like what you would make at home, just done really well. Perfectly toasted bread (or bagel.) Egg, cheese, fresh veggies, and your choice of meat. Sweetie got bacon and said it was awesome, I got sausage and it was excellent as well. Cheap prices for good food. Friendly service. Caffeine and breakfast. Love it. read more

Very reasonable, good home cooked breakfast. Service goes hand-in-hand with the greasy spoon atmosphere, which is nothing bad but, good! What bothers me is the credit card convenience fee (just put into the cost of the food) and the 25% plus higher preloaded tip selection paying with credit. Shannon gives you world-class service making you feel like you're at a five-star restaurant even though this place is like a diamond in a rough. She sometimes will go out of her way to make people happy. Pretty small location parking might be a little difficult to get to. But great food and great service so go ahead and check it out. Greg is very personable and he pays attention to detail with all the guests to make sure everyone is happy. Mark makes excellent food very detailed oriented. read more

Another "Let's Do The Time Warp" eatery, that has evaded the wrath of modernization, other than the big silver ducts, over the kitchen, an homage to better air handling. I would say, though, on the whole, that ventilation, especially over the grill, is a big "to do" remaining, because you walk out of there smelling like everything that was made in the open-air kitchen while you were sitting there. The menu is VERY basic. Yes, you can still get an American breakfast, two eggs, bacon, toast, for $3.95. Woot. It's pretty good. Woot. The coffee? Almost undrinkable, institutional junk. The lunch menu is very 1950's 101. Just stock burgers, grilled cheese, etc. The Monte Christa (sic) is about as exotic as the place gets. Service was old-school quick, and pleasant. A nice change of pace. The place is old, but clean, and well kept up. The liney with the t-shirt with some witty quip about his anger management issues just put a clear view, through the bacon grease, about why this place is so woefully unable to compete with so many innovative breakfast joints around them. It was a short walk from my Airbnb. Would I have eaten breakfast there otherwise? (Prolly not.) Parking, in a residential neighborhood, with this commercial pocket, loaded with restaurants, is catch-as-catch-can. GVCS is 'average' in the best possible way! The food is simple, comforting and reasonably priced. They use a lot of frozen, pre-made products, so this place is anything but bougie. This place has definitely grown on me and everyone that works here is very friendly. There are lots of options for breakfast or lunch foods at good prices.
