This is the dozenth time that I have been to this cute little church festival. Unfortunately - I…read morewill have to say that I was disappointed with this year's experience even more so than the last few; it has been going downhill the last couple of years. You have to buy all your food tickets upfront before you can even see what the food looks like and therein lies the hitch. At the other church festivals I have been to - you get to shop with your eyes and then you pay based on what you have chosen but this festival has you scan a QR code to read the menu in your phone or, if you do not have smart phone, there is a menu taped to the table that you can read by being in every one else's way which is super rude and annoying. So you hurry and guess and buy your tickets ahead of time and you have no idea what the food looks like and that was very disappointing. The portions were small, the meat was overcooked and people in general just did not look like they were having a lot of fun serving, watif ir even being there when I visited in the afternoon on Saturday. When visiting in previous years they let you see what the food looked like and then you could get tickets or you could pay after you had chosen in line. The reorganization this year was just really not working for me. I prefer to see what I'm ordering and indeed I end up often ordering much more than I intend because of the quality of how everything looks, the amazing smells and/ or the friendliness of the hosts. Sadly, this was not the case for this church festival this year. Making me pay ahead of time, keeping all the food covered and not letting anyone see it until you had already ordered it and having the food served look little like the representative photos makes me feel like you're hiding poor quality. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this festival after more than a dozen years of really enjoying this place. There are much better ones out there that deserve my time and attention and financial support. I wish them the best and hope that my experience was just random bad luck.

Sweetie and I took Baby K., and I have to say it was not good for the baby- too hot, and too loud in the food building where the band also was. But we had time to grab some food and skedaddle. It is a small festival, but there is a ton of good food, and music, a few vendors, etc. Very well organized, and everyone was friendly, from parking to the food counters. It's a ticket system, so buy some tickets near the entrance (they have a list of "prices," and $20/20 tickets was enough for two adults with soft drinks.) Everything is behind the church, and there are plenty of tables under a big tent, restrooms, etc. We tried "Serbian salata," pretty much the tomato/cuke/onion salad we often make. Also a cabbage roll- perfectly cooked and seasoned, with ground meat inside and a few chunks of spicy Serbian sausage on top. The cevapi were also amazing- ground meat inside hearty soft flatbread. I could eat several more of those. We finished with dessert- very good baklava, a slice of nut roll, and a jam-filled roll that was, I think, citrus and plum. All in all great food, friendly people, a nice setup, and reasonable prices. We will be back, on a cooler day with an older kid. It's the last Saturday in July every year.

These local ethnic festivals are, in my opinion, a fantastic way to show centra Ohio's cultural diversity! The church is beautiful. Stained glass windows. Vibrant mosaic tiles. Paintings all over the walls. Macedonian music playing outside. As you enter through the building. There is two rows of food - both sides of the line offer the same goods. Tons of pork and beef dishes, kabobs, sausages. Dessert are the later half of the line. Cream puffs, pastries, baklava, fruit-and-nut concoctions. I'm planning to systematically nibble through all these treats. I'm extra excited for a bite of the stuffed pepper and giant sausage (for the love, I can't remember the name of them - but they look very plump and juicy)!!

I hated the lines and disorganization at the downtown fest last year. This one had about a dozen trucks and carts, with a decent variety of cuisines. It was kid-friendly, which thankfully didn't turn into screaming kids running around. You could peek into the Ohio Village shops, and there were some interpreters. Pay for parking (or get it free as an OHS member) and get into the fest, village, and museum for free. Woohoo! I had some pierogi from Sophie's Pierogi cart. Very good, topped with your choice of flavored butter and add-ons. I had garlic/paprika butter and crumbled bacon. Supergood. Sweetie had a mint watermelon salad from Red Plate Blue Plate; it was refreshing. We shared a slice of pizza from Flattop Pizza (I think) and had a lemon shake-up from them. Better than average, though not amazing. I still get annoyed by the two-line drink system. I was surprised to see alcohol at the Village (not that there's anything wrong with that.) But if you want a hard drink, cool, get ID out and buy it. Don't make me stand in two lines to get a pop or water. Inefficient and pointless. All in all, a great afternoon of food and history.

The fest itself is full of great vendors, food options, and so many talented performers and musicians. You can't fault any of the food or performance options! A few things of note: it's not cheap. Online price is $25 for over 12 years old. 11 and under are free and don't require tickets. A lot of free parking options nearly, too, which helps. We came at 4pm Friday, right at opening. It is honestly inexplicable how dirty the portajohns were already. There are so many but twice in two different locations, both pretty grody. Prices for food and drinks aren't cheap, either. Tokens for water/soda at the beverage tent are $4 per drink equivalent and beers are $8-9 as the cheapest option. Food trucks are a wide range, but I'd say a beef hot dog $7 and most meals $14-15. Maybe I'm stuck in 90s prices, though! All in all, if the weather is nice, it's a great way to hear music and shop some lovely vendors. Fun night out! I don't prefer to stay at night anymore because I'm not much of a partier, but it can be great fun.

I think the festival is really well laid out. There are about 6 main stages, and some smaller event tents scattered throughout, in addition to the athletic area (don't miss the Highland Games, they're fascinating!). There is always music somewhere, but the tents are spread out enough that you don't get a lot of overflow. I like to go to the Games, the Police and Fire Pipe and Drum Corps, and this year, we spent a lot of time at the Celtic Rock stage. If you're going for the evening performances at the Rock stage, it's a good idea to bring a chair, though I don't know what you'd do with it earlier in the day..... Gaelic Storm on Saturday night was PACKED, and they weren't the headliner! There is a ton of food to chose from, and again, it's kind of scattered across the park to keep things moving. It's ALWAYS hot as heck for this festival. They have water refill stations, several, and again, throughout the park, which was an awesome option. I brought extra water, but really only needed one bottle. Parking is a pain in the butt - various business have paid parking to capitalize on the crowd (and who could blame them), and you can park for free a quarter to half mile away at various city owned properties. There are also one or more shuttle lots (also free) that I did not use, but my friend said was really easy. It's hot, it's crowded, you walk a lot, but the music and the people watching are great. No joke - I saw a group of Storm Troopers in kilts. Where else can you find that?!

We started walking through the nature of Ohio and then moved on to the galleries. We ended up walking the galleries in the wrong order but the galleries were not really connected. We learned some great Ohio history. They had cool things on display like a mastodon skeleton and a Lustron house. We sent about 2 hours walking around the museum. The one negative I found with the museum, a lot of the information was older. Like some of the information panels only went up to the early 2000s. They have a village exhibit outside but it was closed when we visited. They also had a gift shop that was closed the Saturday we visited. Also they have a small cafe on the top floor but it didn't have many options for actual food, just some snacks.

I enjoyed reading and learning, she bounced from playplace to art display to library to interactive displays. All in a sustainable building, with restrooms indoors and out, coloring pages to grab, wonderful views through the many windows. Helpful staff. Plenty of parking. I remember when this peninsula was a wasteland, with the impound lot. Probably the last time I was here was 30 years ago to help a friend get his car. It's totally different now. A nature preserve in the heart of the city.

This is a great center located within the Scioto Audubon Metro Park. The center itself is a nice space filled with plenty of natural light, fireplaces on both the interior and exterior, and a lot of great amenities. There's a very nice library space with plenty of materials for adults and kids, including, of course, some great birding resources, and comfy seating. Several turtles are on display, including a snapping turtle and a box turtle, and there are two more on the way shortly - a painted turtle and a spotted turtle, whose aquariums were set up. This room also has some interesting displays about invasive species, craft activities (at the time of our most recent visit, these were penguin bookmarks and suncatcher snowflakes), and other fun touches. A really nice playroom is also offered, with places for kids to climb, crawl, hide out in tunnels, and more. Rotating art exhibits make an appearance in the hallways. A current one at the time of our most recent visit, called Artificial Modernity by Taylor Moon Castagnari, provided some interesting looks at birds and how environmental impacts affect them through digital illustrations. The staff at the front desk are friendly and helpful and can get you set up with information or checking out materials, like binoculars or kids explorer packs. They also offer a lot of programs and events, including story times, bird watching, and more.
