I am replying in response to the comment from Dr. Shermer. I called your office at the beginning of June. The first appointment the receptionist could give me was for July 10th. at 10:50 a.m. I called back again the beginning of the second week in June. I told her it was getting worse and that I had macular degeneration. I asked her if she had an emergency appointment or an earlier appointment and she replied no. She said they were all booked and do not take emergency appointments. I called around to get an appointment with another Doctor. As I was an unknown patient there was no obligation to see me immediately. I got an appointment for July 3rd. I called your office to cancel my appointment and the receptionist had it listed as a yearly eye exam. I asked her why since it was an emergency. She replied I had not had an exam since last year. I did call your office at 10:30 a.m. on Friday Sept. 5th in response to your reply so I could give you more details. I was told that you were with a patient but you would call me as soon as you finished. I waited all day and there was no return call from you or your office. This has been devastating for me and the damage is not correctable. I cannot recommend this practice. read more

I was not a patient but was having an eye emergency. Vision Care was open later than other eye are offices. I called knowing they were closing soon, but they were so kind and fit me in at their closing hours. I was able to get seen and prescribed some medicine for much needed relief. To be clear, i found out about Germantown Vision Care from my vision insurance's website. I tried to make appointments for my family, and the front desk didn't know how to deal with verifying the insurance (the insurance company does not provide a member number). They were adamant I needed to get the member number from the insurance company before making an appointment. I simply called another provider who was able to verify the insurance company with a few simple questions, and lo and behold, I have four appointments for my family. Called to let them know what needed to be done and maybe some retraining was necessary, and they blew me off. Good Luck staying in business with that customer service attitude. read more

Dr. Schermer recently treated me for a problem I was having. I was able to get an appointment the next day. The doctor did a very thorough exam and explained the issue I was having. I was prescribed some drops to get started. I scheduled a follow up appointment. His office was closed the next day, but he said that he would be in the office and if I needed anything at all to let him know not many doctors do that! I recommend Dr. Schermer. read more

Stay away from this practice! This practice went absolutely downhill after our optometrist of more than 20 years - Dr. Levi - sold it to this guy from New Zealand. The new guy sticks you with different kinds of surprising charges, which he never reveals or discusses in advance, hiding behind a mask of friendliness and concern. He also has absolutely no idea how to deal with minors - was genuinely surprised when I questioned him on why he did not discuss with me or at least inform me about what and why he does when examining my sons. read more

I've been with Dr Levy about 5 years and just had my first appointment with Dr Schermer. Both myself and my daughter had a pleasant appointment with Dr Schermer. The front staff was friendly and efficient, and Rick was helpful in finding frames that complemented the shape of my face. The technician was also patient working with my daughter who was getting contacts for the first time. There are quite a few negative comments about this practice, but we had a very enjoyable experience and will be staying with this practice. Sometimes the wait to be seen seems long, but I found that to be the case with Dr Levy, and most other Dr offices. read more

I had an annual eye exam on 6/22/2023. Normally the annual eye exam is covered by insurance. However, I received the bill after the exam. I called the Germantown Vision Care Center to try to find out why that annual eye exam was not covered by the insurance. My phone was redirected to the billing office. I called the billing office many times. Nobody answered the phone. So I left a few messages and finally was able to talk to the person about the issue. She replied that she would discuss the issue with the physician and call me back. Then I never heard anything from her. I kept receiving the bill. so I called the Germantown Vision Care Center again. I was told that Dr. Schermer was on vacation and would contact me after he came back. Then I never heard anything from the center, but again kept receiving the bill. Every time I called the office, the staff responded with a nice and polite attitude, but nobody addressed the issues. Eventually, I got tired of the back-and-forth phone calls, so I paid the balance and transferred to another vision care office. I still did not know why I had to pay out of pocket for the annual eye exam which I had never needed to pay any out-of-pocket balance. read more

My husband and I were both patients of Dr. Levy for years. He ran a tight ship and was very nice while doing it. He also had a great sense of humor. His exam was thorough and included the test with the red balloon (not sure what that is for), eye pressure test with the air puff (which the lady always told you what your number was), test for peripheral vision, and pictures taken of your eye which he would show you and explain what was happening in your eye. He was always on time and did not take phone calls before taking a patient back. Yesterday I went to Dr. Schermer and did not feel I had a great exam. The technician never told me the numbers for my eye pressure, never had the peripheral vision test and never had the picture of the eye taken. I arrived at 3:00 and was not taken back until 3:30 because he was on the phone. After the technician did all his tests I had to wait again because he was on the phone. He did the eye test and then put the drops in my eyes and I had to wait quite a while he saw another patient who also had a 3:00 appointment??? Finally go back and I asked him what my pressure numbers were and he said that the test was normal. Why am I concerned? Well, my mother had glaucoma and cataracts the same age I am now. Then he sent me for a test where there is a green X you have to follow. I am assuming it was for glaucoma but why was is not done in the first place. The technician asked me about health problems and wrote them down and obviously the doctor never looked at them. Dr. Levy would talk about how medical problems affect the eye. OK, I am finally done and go up front and the girl says that will be $43.00 and I said for what. I had never ever paid anything there. She said the refraction is not covered by your insurance. I told her that my husband had been in the end of January and his refraction was covered. She looked up his chart and said that a line was drawn though the refraction so that he did not have one. I get home and my husband said he definitely had a refraction done and was not charged. The one girl said it had never been covered since she started working there. Thats a lie. Medicare and BC/BS always covered it in full. I called Medicare and BC/BS and apparently it just changed last year. They do not cover refractions if the doctor gives you a prescription. My husbands eyes did not change and he was not charged. They also said that if you have any medical problems it should be sent in for consideration. I have BP problems and thyroid. I call the office back and said I needed them to send it in to Medicare. The girl said Dr. Schermer would have to call me back. He never did. We are done with this office and will never go back. this has been a tremendously frustrating company to deal with. I have gone to their office twice and called them an additional three times to get the prescriptions that I paid for. They have been unable to produce the correct prescriptions on every occasion. I am going to have to go to another eye doctor to get new prescriptions. Also they said they took my insurance and then charged my over $200 anyways. I recommend avoiding this company read more

I had been going to Dr. Levy for close to 30 year. He is not only an amazing Doctor but a great person. Regretfully, he sold his practice to people who are complete opposite. I called to make an appointment and was told that since I have rescheduled my appointment 12 times since 2001(!!), the new doctor, Schermer ,is not interested in seeing me. However, between the lines, I realized that they are not interested in me because I buy my lenses elsewhere. (COSTCO). Not sure if this is ethical but there are more optometrists than there are McDonalds and I will not have any problem finding another one, however, the transition is disappointing. read more

He has cared for our family's vision needs for more than 10 years and he diagnosed a vision issue with my daughter had that another optometrist missed just a few months prior. Even more astonishing to me was that he diagnosed it within a minute (so how did the others miss it?). I was a first time client at Dr. Levy's practice. First, I was impressed that he has late evening hours once a week and is open a few Saturdays a month. But what really stood out is that everyone was genuinely interested in me and wanted to learn who I was. Usually we are ushered in and out doctor's offices and feel more like a number than a person. And all of this despite the fact that I was probably his last appointment on one of his longer days.
