Picked up donuts for Mother's Day and they were affordable and tasted great. The next day had serious fever sickness which I later learned was from health code violations at the establishment. Everyone I was with who ate a donut also became seriously ill. The donuts are cheap and come with a free complimentary side of VIRUS. Jokes aside this is a serious issue and this business later posted jokes about sick customers on social media. You are better off getting yourself some Dunkin donuts. Best donuts but one complaint....they are way too cheap! Add a buck or two! You have a Dumpster Donuts right next door and you need a hedge against the competition. You'll still be a very inexpensive option, live it up, or give you delightful counter folks a raise! I haven't smelled that smell since Model bake shop in Florence Mass went out of business 20 years ago... Until I walked into Gerry's. This place is the real deal. They don't make em like this anymore. I'm a newcomer to Ellington, and late to the party at Gerry's. My GF discovered it one day, and she was so in love, she told me all about it. (She did not, however, save me a donut...) As mentioned in many reviews (and told to me by two different regulars on two different visits) get here early. Gerry's does a brisk, but tight, business. His prices are crazy cheap, and that doesn't lend itself to having to toss a bunch of unsold donuts at the end of the day. If there are still donuts, there will be a line. Don't sweat it, just accept that this is the price you pay to buy a little slice of heaven. Also, if Gerry (I think that's Gerry) is waiting on you, he's all business. If he's not extra smiley at you, it's because there's a line of regulars behind you, and you're holding it up. Not impolite, just brisk. Also, like many great mom-n-pop's, this is Cash only. Let's talk prices. I have no idea how this place pays the rent. The donuts are laughably cheap. They're a bit smaller than boutique donuts, but still very inexpensive. I am a big dude, and I know my donuts. Now, you won't find any frosted, dipped in pixie dust and Trix cereal nonsense here (Not that I have a problem with that.) No, my friends, these are just old fashioned, real donuts. The kind you remember from when you were a kid (If you're old enough to have been a kid before Dunks drove all these local shops out of business.) The GF loves the lemon filled. If you knew her, you'd understand what a huge deal that is. My favorite is clearly the Chocolate Honey dipped. Crispy on the outside. Soft and delicious on the inside. Not too sweet. Went here after they had been closed for a short matter of time. Both my family and I all got violently sick, the common denominator behind all of our stomach problems was that we had all had donuts from this establishment earlier in the day. We were not convinced we could have gotten this sick from a donut so we tried them again the next day (leftovers) both my wife and I again got sick shortly after yet again. Use caution. read more

Just happened to notice this place and despite the recent bad review, went in anyway this afternoon. When I walked in, smallish guy behind the counter looked at me as if I landed from Mars and parked my spaceship too close to his car and dented it. I remarked that almost everything was gone (I knew I was taking a chance--no big deal), and he was like "yeah", "rather than come back in the morning" or "goodies go by 3!" I settled on a couple of cookies and when I looked around, his patrons were eyeing me as well. Maybe they thought they could take me down, if needed? I paid for my purchase and he puts the bag on the counter rather than handing it to me. Bottom line: They may not want my business, but I don't need to get the business when I go somewhere. It's true, you gotta get there early: but that's because they are delicious and made from scratch, not flown in from some random donut factory and reconstituted in the oven (I'm looking at you, Dunkin'!). Stopped over here on our way to surprise our son in college and figured we would sample a few and bring him and friends 2 dozen. Gerry's is very old and dated looking and we were optimistic of having a solid donut. They ran if their popular Boston cream so we cannot attest to that glory but we sampled quite a few others. Coconut dream-nice donut with a toasted coconut flake crust all around and a nice Bavarian filling-nice donut texture and tasty filling that has the perfect element of sweetness. This donut gets a 4.2/5 Blueberry cake had a serious blueberry taste but was a little heavy and thick cake like so texture wise didn't care for that -2.2/5 Marble donut was so appealing and reminded me of old fashioned marble crullers-I was so excited to try this one-I was crushed! Dry and tasteless... 0/5 Apple filled was bad but not the best but still better than dunkin for sure Jelly was not good in both my husband and my opinion-jelly was absolutely stingy in amount and I guess that was a blessing in disguise given the fact that it didn't taste very good and had a fake like flavor to it-nothing as rich as Neil's Jelly donut which still ranks in as number one. This isn't a bad place but by no means am I running here to get a dozen donut. I've been coming here for a couple of years. The donuts are always delicious and absolutely worth the wait in the line. Located in a small plaza near the roundabout by Cumbies the parking lot is always full by 7:30 in the morning. I love that their donuts are not cakey their light and airy and the frosting is not too sweet. For $5 a dozen, or .50 cents a piece, I would say they're the best in Connecticut. read more

On our donut roadtrip we stopped at Gerrys in Ellington. They looked cute from the outside, then we went inside. The place was bare, only scraps of breakfast items and some cookies. We waited several minutes to be served, no one was in the front of the store. Finally a woman came out from the back and she was rude beyond belief. There was another woman waiting behind us and we were basically yelled at for who ever was first. We asked about donuts figuring they were open til 4 they must be making some in the kitchen. Boy were we wrong. She pointed at a small cake stand that had a turnover, a muffin, and some cookies, "that's what I have left." I was pissed and ready to leave but my boyfriend saw two croissants in the counter display. Before he could buy them a woman and her son came in, the woman behind the counter said to them you should have come earlier it's Saturday. Not for nothing but if you are open most of the day you should make more donuts! It's not rocket science. I digress, we bought the two croissants and my boyfriend devoured them he said they were indescribably amazing. That was the only redeeming thing about this place. read more

A+ across the boards... only negative is no breakfast sandwiches. But guess what... they don't need it! GET OVER IT! But seriously, the donuts here are incredible, and they're very cheap. They have tons of muffins, bagels and other breakfast treats as well. The food quality is honestly better than large chains, and the prices are almost unreasonably low. Its not pretty or fancy....but boy..the donuts are delicious. Unfortunately we went around mid morning..and it looked like many of the bins had already emptied. What we brought home were extremely tasty...toasted coconut...blueberry..plain old fashioned. These donuts are really full bodied....very fresh and really good. Another example of the local boys putting out a much better product than the big regional/national names! As others have said..prices are quite modest..especially for such a high quality. Came here w my husband and daughter. My husband is black and as soon as we went in there we were stared at by everyone sitting. It was a very weird vibe that we've never felt before. The lady at the register was everything but friendly. Did not greet us and was very unpleasant. After being here this morning I curiously read some reviews. I ran into the same rude woman! I bought 5 dozen donuts, calling in the order the precious day. While on the phone the woman was actually condescending several times to the point that I started laughing in disbelief! I told my friend: remind me to review this place once I get the donuts tomorrow. If they're good - 4 stars, and comment on the lack of customer service at likely one of the bigger orders they come across. Ok so the donuts are good - or actually I should say one kind is good since my 5 dozen assorted boxes each came with 2 kinds each?!? That's obnoxious! The dozens were goodies I was dropping off at some stops I was making - gee thanks for donut. Overall I can get bare shelves - it's mom and pop and they don't want to waste. But I do not accept a large advanced order being disregarded - it's passive aggressive .. maybe I shouldn't have laughed yesterday. Their boxes say "with God all things are possible". Hands down the best doughnuts in CT. They're good for days and, although smaller than your traditional dunkin doughnut, they are far more delicious. If you like getting a doughnut anytime after 10AM...dont waste your time, they are likely cleaned out. Everything is priced at a "fair and honest deal"-type price. This donut shop is such disappointment... from customer service to quality of the donuts, i would never recommend this place. First of all, the lady at the register was very unfriendly and was clearly disrespectful. She would cut me off in the middle when i was ordering and when i had to go to the atm machine (they dont accept cards) she was rude about it making rude gestures and faces at me. I was picking up the donuts for my church group and the more upsetting thing is that there were bad, half sized donuts hidden at the bottom and the jelly donuts had practically no jelly in them... ill attach the picture of the jelly donuts.. the shop seem to have a christian background but as a christian myself, the store shows disrespectful and rude customer service and poor quality food and i would hate to have a shop like this use a Christian name to represent themselves when they carry no characteristics of what a Christian should be. Cheaper than Dunkin Donuts and way better by far. Gerry's is to DD what a home-grilled Angus burger is to a McD's cheeseburger. There's really no comparison.
