Gerry's response posted to his Facebook business page when everyone got ill.
Soukanya P.

I used to be a regular here until a couple years ago when their donuts got everyone ill for Mother's Day. Gerry was quoted on his Facebook page saying, "shit happens" because everyone was violently ill after the Mother's Day batch. People were sent to the hospital etc. The Health Dept went in to inspect it and they found mouse droppings, old ingredients which they were forced to replace and we were all ill from norovirus because there was poor handwashing and sanitation at the shop. The donuts were good, cash only and great prices. Gerry and another employee are very cranky but I got through it for the donuts but not anymore for his lack of sympathy and poor humor posted online which he has removed.

Gerry's Donuts is a gem of a place and been around for a very long time. Locals know about this place as you have to get there early as they sell out early. Everything is fresh. It's a cash only place and no credit cards. Donut prices are a lot less than DD. I had a coupon for 6 donuts for $3 that I used. The bagel was very fresh and they also sell muffins. It's a small place with a few places to sit but more of a place to grab and go.

We ordered munchkins for a company event, they were delicious! Keep in mind when visiting this local donut shop that they are cash only. Gerry's is reasonably priced and we really enjoyed the assorted donut holes. Will return to try more of the menu!

When other yelpers mentioned the donuts go fast, I didn't believe it. But it is true. I came here after 8:30 on a weekday morning and most of the donuts were gone. Lemon filled donut was my favorite one. Vanilla glazed cherry donut and cherry donut were very good as well. Chocolate donut was ok. Prices were very reasonable.

Came to this little doughnut shop very early in the morning to make sure I got some fresh rings. Girlfriends mom had only one request for her birthday: coffee in the morning and a boson cream doughnut. So if she wants a doughnut. I'm getting her the best I can find on yelp. Coming to this shops a little weird, since it's right before this massive roundabout. But I managed to get there with no lines which was nice. I was informed that this business doesn't follow covid protocols, and that's somewhat true. The servers wore masks, but they were hanging from their ears. Figured I would give them a shot regardless. The doughnuts are very good! You can tell they are fried on sight because they break where the grease doesn't contact the doughnut. The marbled doughnut had nutmeg and cinnamon layered throughout the doughnut which was awesome with coffee. The Boston cream was stuffed with custard and a little yeasty on the best way. They are also very affordable! A half dozen set me back around 3.25. For the quality, they are a very good deal. Besides the whole lack of covid protocols, this place is a great place to get some doughnuts. If you need a fresh doughnut, you'll be hard pressed to find one this good at this price. Go early though. I hear they sell out quick!

I can't support this business anymore and I would warn you before you try one of their donuts. I've been going to Gerry's for years and they have the best donuts around. They closed abruptly this week due to a health code violation. My 13 year old son, 7 year old daughter and I all ate a powdered donut and all got violently ill. So did many other customers. Here is Gerry's Facebook post. Just appalling.

I had to drop my foster dog off at an event in Ellington, CT. The town is far north from me, close to MA line. I recalled reading a 'best donuts in CT' type of article and there being a shop in Ellington that had rave reviews- Gerry's Donuts. Lucky for this donut connoisseur the shop was practically down the street from where I was. Let me just start by saying I got there after 9a and 90% of their donut inventory was gone. It's an obvious hot spot. And it's got this very classic, old school feel. Their offerings were very basic from what I can see- iced or hot coffee (vanilla only flavor option), danishes, donuts, and bagels (plain cream cheese only). Oh, and sometimes a soup of the day. The donut I selected was the first to catch my eye. I mean, what a pretty color, right?! It was cherry in flavor. I'm not a big cherry fan, but given its beauty and my spontaneous nature, I went for it. Holy smokes- def one of the top traditional style donuts I have had. It was a cherry glaze donut to be precise. Fresh, dank cakey donut w/ cherry pieces. A mouth melting, light glaze, this halo was a palate pleaser. The people of Gerry's were extremely pleasant in dealing with and to chat with and they don't break the bank with their pricing!! I look forward to making a very early road trip up to experience other styles and flavors at some point in the near future!

Yum!

Good donuts. No masks. Clients and workers don't wear masks there. Is a good donut worth the risk? No.

"It's good to be king and have your own world It helps to…read moremake friends; it's good to meet girls A sweet little queen who can't run away It's good to be king, whatever it pays" (Tom Petty) I was surprised to see so many negative reviews here, characterizing King's Donuts as "dry, stale, excessively "crumbly", or with raw uncooked centers. One review even said the donuts tasted like "Play Doh and/or paint thinner". Let me say this as clearly as I can, the donuts and crullers we just picked up were FANTASTIC, as fresh as could be, and 100% wonderful. We picked up a variety of cake donuts, traditional Yeast-Raised Donuts, cruller sticks, and donut holes the other day, and we were 1,000% happy with their taste, size, and freshness. I loved their Cherry Cake donut! It was so big I really should have split it with my wife but didn't. They have 28 flavors on their website, baked in small batches with rotating flavors. Prices start at $2.49 for a single classic glazed donut, then go to $2.99 for a filled donut (jelly, custard or fruit), and then $3.25 for Specialties. For you big spenders out there, a Cinnamon Roll is $3.49, and an Apple Fritter is $3.75. These prices seem pretty reasonable to me, considering how big and excellent I found their donuts to be,

Items can be pricey, but you get what you pay for. Some of my favorites: oatmeal bread, blueberry pancake cupcakes, strawberry rolls, early riser rolls - to name a few. We also love their apple crumble pie, their pepperoni picnic bread, and their sugar cookie pie around the holidays! For me the coffee is hit or miss - sometimes it's amazing other times I don't love it ... maybe have to do with the syrups I choose to be honest. They currently have a bakery location in Ellington and an additional drive thru location down the road in Ellington, a location in Stafford, and will be opening in Hartford in 2026. You can also find them at the outdoor Ellington farmers markets on Saturdays. Highly recommend checking them out. Their staff are all beyond pleasant as well. It's a good bakery, stuff is always fresh and the flavors in each of their cupcakes, muffins, breads, and other misc bakery items is present and forward. They know that they are good, and charge accordingly. Given that there's no direct competition in a 10 mile radius (and I would argue even past that 10 mile radius the pickings are slim) the price is justifiable for the quality you get. As someone who treks a lot around the state, I find that there are many bakeries that do similar if not better items for comparable if not lower prices. But to ask someone to drive 30-60 minutes just to get something a couple bucks cheaper that's tastes about the same? It's a hard sale. I will say that Luanne's is the best in that area of the state, not including the small boutique places that are well off the beaten path. I still come here for the view and ambiance, but I don't order much of their food.

Which brings me to my newly crowned favorite sandwich - Tongue On Rye; ask for the tip slices very lean. She doubled over giggling and said thank you for your honesty and THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I've been asked just Tongue with "No Lip." Despite the comedy and light hearted conversation the table for two was perfect Harry & Sally style! Watching the action, enjoying the lean tongue on rye with mustard an unforgettable delight.

The still tastes good, with some exceptions. The frier oil seemed burnt, so the pickle chips we had just had that little bit of carbon taste on them. The pickle chips batter was very thick, and the mayo was the only respite. The sandwich, still tasty, seemed much smaller than normal, the meat still had good flavor, but the portion was lighter in comparison. The prices are also a bit high. The sandwich coming out to about 15 bucks. The bargain is very much gone now, and the portion is okay for a sandwich but pricy because of this shrinkage. Not shown are the overcooked onion rings. We returned those and the server promptly removed them from the bill. So really good customer service. I opted for a brownie for dessert, and the brownie was a disappointment. Too sugary, no flavor, gummy, and disappointingly small and thin. A detractor for sure. As a deli, it feels like it's on the decline. I know things are pricier now, but what you pay vs what you get doesn't match up. I'm hoping they pivot from this path, but right now it's no longer my go-to. It's still tasty, just pricy
