I had the great fortune of finding Mr. Anthony Murphy, Esq., to manage my defense with respect to a…read moresmall claims court case I had with a neighbor who was angered because of the trimming of his trees that came over onto my property posing a safety threat. Mr. Murphy put things into perspective for me from the very first meeting I had with him and he immediately put into place a strategy and motion for dismissal based upon the lack of "damage" definition with respect to "property destruction" the plaintiff stated in his lawsuit filing. Inexplicably, the motion was not ruled on by the judge, who preferred to wait until the scheduled trial date for making her decision. Mr. Murphy was dedicated to winning the case for me, and attended several hearings called by the judge, as well as a rescheduling of the trial a total of 3 times dragging out the original trial date 6 months. During this time, Mr. Murphy put together a motion for "Summary for Disposition" outlining the defense with evidence and facts in order that the case be dismissed without going to trial. He urged the judge twice to make a judgement on the disposition and she finally relented, and ruled to dismiss the case. It was Mr. Murphy's excellent guidance through this rather frustrating time of having to deal with an unruly Plaintiff, and questionable judgement from a judge not to consider pre-trial motions for dismissal, which eventually won out in the end. I cannot thank Mr. Murphy enough nor recommend him enough to others needing a legal professional to help them in an array of the different legal services he provides. Key Issues: * Financial Coercion: Weeks before trial, after being told I had a credit, the firm suddenly claimed I was "upside down" and demanded thousands within three days. When I questioned it, they immediately moved to withdraw, leaving me no time to secure new counsel. * Admitted Lack of Motivation: On record, the firm admitted they had "no motivation" to settle because the judge denied their withdrawal request. * Misrepresentation to the Court: They falsely claimed I consented to withdrawal and couldn't pay, when I had explicitly stated otherwise. * Failure to Prepare: The firm didn't subpoena records, allow me to present witnesses, or let me review filings. They even advised accepting a settlement based on inaccurate income. * Billing Concerns: Unauthorized rate increases, charges for clerical/admin work, and billing for internal decisions like withdrawal. I also have a receipt for an invoice missing from their ledger. Bottom Line: Communication was often ignored until it was time to collect fees. Advice shifted based on my questioning of charges. If you want proactive advocacy and transparent billing, look elsewhere. I have filed a formal grievance with the Florida Bar to address these failures.
