They are mostly listener supported, so if you listen in, be sure to contribute during their pledge drives. My favorite thing about this station is the Texas Matters show. It's syndicated across all the National Public Radio stations in Texas. It's about all things going on in the Lone Star State. I've been to other states, and have never heard a state specific public radio show for any other state. During pledge drive week, I tend to tune my radio to another station, because I get tired of listening to them beg for money. It's nice that they've changed the format recently. They've been cutting off the pledge drive short if they have raised the amount of money needed. It's nice how KERA changes up the programming on a really regular basis. Each show is at maximum, about an hour long. They don't play any regular commercials, more like Public Service Announcements. Check it out- it's on the left side of the dial!

An adult format that ranged from classics to newer tunes, which we enjoyed even if many of those new tunes were unfamiliar. For as long as we listened, no commercials and it was nice. They have a whole local program that cranks out the jams. There's no real commercials on this station, just public service announcements, and underwriting announcements. The DJs are fun, and not some corporate dudes in a booth, or some AI generated voice that pipes in endless chatter. Instead, you can get a finger on the pulse of the live music scene around, and they focus on bands who are coming through and playing at venues you can visit around town. The music is much more than just some top 40 hits station, or some corporate run Belo or Clear Channel Communications stationit has the local heart and soul of the city of Dallas. If you don't like the music, give it an hour or two, and they'll have something else on later.

It's been quite a while since we made it over to see Tom Spicer at his little East Dallas…read morestorefront, but honestly our visit was sort of formative from a food and cooking perspective. Tom is like the Willy Wonka of produce: Quirky, colorful, and extremely passionate about his products. High-end Dallas chefs have sourced from him for years; the storefront seems like more of a side project. On one trip two summers ago we were introduced to food curiosities we had never seen or tasted: sea beans, fiddlehead ferns, and an assortment of exotic mushrooms. We also noticed a big 55-gallon drum in the corner. Turns out it was filled with extremely fresh unfiltered Texas olive oil. Sampling it, we noticed an incredibly clean grassy flavor with a peppery finish. The slight burn in the back of the throat comes from naturally-occurring oleocanthal, which indicates freshness. Tom is so freewheeling that he didn't even have a way for us to take some olive oil home. "People usually bring in their own containers," he told us. We ended up carrying our oil out in a rinsed out juice bottle. So all summer the we drizzled the Best Dang Olive Oil Ever from the lip of a Pom Wonderful container. I'm rambling on, but F-M 1410 really is a unique spot. It's not your mother's Whole Foods and who the heck knows what their hours are... but if you get excited about food you should poke your head in to see what strange and wonderful things Tom has to offer.

I am not a Muslim nor from Pakistan (but a Hindu from South India) & have never been a caller but I simply love listening even if some anchors use urdu words often (which is btw a sweet language). All RJs are awesome. Azad ji's talk show called "Bol Keh Lab Azad Hain Teray" (available on their YouTube channel) is a must-listen for Self awareness, Self development, Motivation, Morals/Values, Spirituality & Philosophy (no religion strings-attached though) which are much needed in our life especially in this day n' age. His talks give me a feeling of my favorite swamiji discourses like of Bramhvihari swami, Gaur Gopal Das, Sarvapriyananda, Sukhabodhananda, Om swami, Smt Prema Pandurang etc (while at it, plz go check them out on youtube as they also speak close to anyone's heart about human values). Azad ji should give some TED talks as well. As such, he is a simple yet outstanding individual with an inspiring bio (I am a fan of his... he should publish his biography). Today, his topic was "Sukoon" (peace) & a caller said that he found it after listening to this station from past 4 years. And, Ayesha ji is such a sweetheart, she might not know you but will soon become your best friend. Quality wise, their 870 AM is not the quality that they deserve but they do stream live on their website/apps/tunein/roku (seniors who might not be up to today's technology can just call a number to hear them live). They also work hard updating their website & facebook pages daily with details of all the shows & schedules (which their competitor FunAsia though a biggie who are just interested in making money should learn from). They also maintain a Youtube channel. GO Radio Azad "where your VOICE matters" (such a meaningful tag-line of theirs as they are best at interacting & listening to audience)!

Nevertheless thank goodness they exist, and long may they continue. We love some of their wildlife shows a little too much, even though they can be harrowing AF. In a supposed free country like America, PBS should be everything... instead of an afterthought.
