It has a pretty decent selection of wines, spirits and beers, a small selection of fridge food, fresh milk etc and not too shabby amount of cupboard food and confectionery. If you find that your first choice of shop/supermarket is closed be sure to always give this place a go. It's not too expensive and sometimes cheaper than the big chains and tends to have some of the lesser known items that you could be looking for.

As well as the usual ciggies, sweets and newspapers - they stock magazines (but no music ones, an annoying habit of a fair few newsagents round this way), booze (which is kept very well chilled and sold very well cheap) as well as groceries. As is always the case with these places, the groceries are a lot more expensive than supermarkets so I very rarely buy food from there unless it's desperate. There's also a pay-to-use cash machine and a DVD rental section at the back which costs a £20 deposit to join.

The overall look/feel of the store is similar to any Sainsbury's Local, it was easy to find what I was looking for. The shelves were reasonably well stocked, and a Costa Express coffee machine served hot drinks only. It was easy enough to get in and out of the store in a couple of minutes, using the Sainsbury's Smartshop app which allows you to scan items as you're walking around the store, and then you can pay via the app, scan the QR code in the exit area and head out. The prices are inflated because it is a convenience store, if you have more time you may want to head to the larger Morrisons in Edgbaston which is only a short ride away on the tram. The security guard at the front of the store came across as rude and felt like he was trying to intimidate customers and just made me feel uncomfortable when I was doing nothing wrong. 3* - Pretty typical Sainsbury's Local, very useful location for a convenience store is the highlight to write home about.

It is a well-stocked corner shop, with a really good sweet section. They also sell stuff that could constitute a half decent meal in the event of an Old Mother Hubbard moment. Like most corner shops, prices here are slightly higher than in the supermarkets. The lady behind the till is always friendly and will give you cheery smile. What more could you want from a corner shop?

I find it very satisfying that the shop is still there and looks pretty much as I remember it as a kid. Whilst it's changed hands a few times over the years it's still a reassuring fixture of the Kingstanding Road. These days I drop in once a month or so to buy tobacco, or some other 'essential' (is tobacco an essential?) as I pass through Kingstanding. As well as a newsagent this is also an off licence - it wasn't like that in my Granddad's day! - so, if the mood takes you, you can always pick up a beer or two for a reasonable price.

Though small in size, logical organisation and lack of makeshift shelving make ensure that the store never feels cramped, and friendly staff make every visit here a pleasant one.
