Ignore a lot of the cranky reviews - Giant on Wilkens is solid. I've been coming here for 15 years and it has been a reliable store. It's a large place with a large variety of options for people of all tastes and walks of life. You'll find blue collar and white collar workers alike coming in to get their daily bread. Some of the more seasoned cashiers have been around a long time and are on a first-name basis with some of the customers. When Wegmans opened in Columbia, Giant upped its game with quality of food (one of the guys at the fish counter said they reduced the time they'll hold onto unsold fish so that they're competing with only the best). Likewise, the 2025 renovation of the store saw it expand by over 50% and now there's a café area with a Starbucks and some other prepared meals to go. While specialty items are quite as expansive as say a Whole Foods, there is plenty of specialty goods, including organic options, gluten-free options, vegan options, and imitation meats (which as someone feeding a vegetarian child, this is great when we want a change from beans, lentils, and tofu for protein). There is always an armed security guard by the entrance. I've never had any safety issues since I've been there. On rare occasions, you might find someone panhandling outside. I don't use the pharmacy, but there is always a long line there. I've looked around, and the prices here are competitive, unless you count a wholesaler like Costco. Use your Giant card and digital coupons, you can save plenty of money. Use points for discounts on gas at Shell. The parking lot is tight; I always feel like they could have made the spaces a foot wider, but oh well. A great one-stop shop for your grocery needs! read more

They recently renovated this Giant supermarket. It's a lot more spacious now and they have a good selection of groceries and household items. The parking lot always seems packed. I did notice that the new parking spots also are pretty small. I had a few incidences where I had to return mushy green apples, bruised up strawberries, and not so great cocktail shrimp. Other than that, everything is rather simple to find, with each aisle clearly labeled and the self-checkout line definitely makes a trip to the grocery store a lot faster. It is also nice that there is always someone readily available to help with self-checkout. They also have a lottery kiosk and a good selection of fresh flower bouquet. read more

I've been coming here for months. The last time I placed a grocery order for pickup, I waited for over 30 minutes in the parking lot for them to come out. I called beforehand to make sure my order was ready and then had to call THREE times to ask if they were coming any time soon. Complete waste of my time--I would have gone in and shopped myself if I had known I would have to wait in the car for 30 minutes to get a grocery order. When I called after 30 MINUTES of waiting (at this point, outside of the time frame I said I would come pick up), I was told they would be out "soon". I've shopped at this giant twice a week for the past 15 years. It's clean and well stocked. The staff is absolutely wonderful. They recently installed the self check out which is awesome and the lines are shorter now. The day time staff is my favorite. At night it's younger kids running the registers and they are always talking to each other which is mildly annoying. I also love the crab truck in the warmer weather. The reason they lost 2 stars is that the parking lot is awful. They keep repainting the spaces closer and closer. So close that you can't even open your door because it's like sardines stuffed in a can. Today I came out and there was a huge chunk of paint out of my door by the suv that parked next to me. In September my car was hit while I was inside and it cracked my windshield. I've also waited for the person next to my car to leave so I can get in because their car was 6" from mine and I couldn't get my door open. I'm done coming to this location and am shopping elsewhere now. It's sad. Really truly sad. read more

I must admit; although this GIANT is the closest to me, I almost always find a way to avoid it. Most of the time, something that would take no more than ten minutes takes at least thirty. Unfortunately, they just don't appear to have the correct amount of staffing to accommodate the amount of people that patronize the business. The location is great for me, the staff are always helpful, and things are easy to find, it just isn't time conducive. Do not go to get flowers from Giant on Wilkens. The florist there has a bad attitude and does bad arrangement. Not gonna lie, she started cussing at the costumers and was acting so annoyed to be putting flowers together. Also when you ask her for her opinion on what type of flowers are fit for certain events her exact words were "it's what ever you want". I'm not sure what other people would think but I'm not a florist and I don't know much about flowers but when I ask a florist for help and she gives me that answer I don't think she's a professional then. read more

This Giant is closest grocery store to me. What everyone says is true. They always seem to be short handed. You go in for 2 things and stand in line for 20 minutes. It's a really congested layout. I will say it's well stocked and the staff is usually helpful and nice. If you use the app and bonus you can usually get some good deals and always check the circular for the clip of week coupon. My biggest complaint which may sound stupid. Their rotisserie chickens suuucckkk. Like super dry. The Giant by my old house has thee best rotisserie chickens ever. NOT, this location, dry as the Sahara Desert. Not once, not twice, not even three times. At least 5, now shame on use for continuing to purchase them, but when convenience calls sometimes you fall for it. And what are you going to do, get in your car at 8 pm after you worked 9 hours, then went to the store.. And go back. Nope. Giant has robbed me of at least 40.00 read more

I would like to rate the employee and not the actual store. I went pick up my catering order and the deli department just forgot to make my order even though it was placed on Monday and was supposed to be ready for pickup on Friday. Associate Shattu Abba was amazing and professional. She completely understood how aggravating it can be putting an order together but she went above and beyond to make sure my order was prepared as soon as possible. Kudos to her. It looks like she can run the department on her own. I believe her department is prepared foods. Awesome job miss. read more

Not all Giants are made the same. I have been to some 'Gucci Giants', but this is not one of them. Super slow service, zombie cashiers and their prices were way high. I'd rather go down the street to the local neighborhood grocery store. read more

I have read previous reviews and am aghast. The Wilkins Avenue Giant is wonderful. Any time I needed assistance, the staff member who I asked has been very helpful and courteous. Regarding the parking lot, there are always plenty of parking spaces. The store is not at fault if their customers are not adept at parking. I'm 73 and usually park far down the parking lot, away from the store. This area has plenty of parking. Walking from the car to the store is slightly uphill, but downhill when you have are pushing a heavy cart full of groceries to your car. And the young cashiers are fun to have there. Their perspective on life is different, but refreshing. When they are talking with one another, they are still working. And it sure is fun listening to their conversations! read more

This location is close to me, so l visit it regularly. The store is well maintained with the produce, meat and seafood always fresh. The deli is always stocked and fresh and l have no problems when an item is out of stock and l go to customer service for a rain check. The bakery has an assortment of fresh baked items as well, but l digress. I came here to purchase flowers for a loved one's birthday. The floral department had an array of arrangements at different price points. I chose a dozen petite blush colored roses for only $9.99. They were fresh and not wilted or brown inbthe edge of the petals. I asked the young lady at the floral counter, Linda, if she could jazz them up a bit for me. She said it was her pleasure and took them out of the plastic wrapping and put them neatly arranged in a lace printed wrapping and secured it with a pink satin ribbon at no additional charge! The most terrible customer service ever. This is the 3rd time coming in and trying to pick up western union.ñ and the system was down. I spoke to a woman on the phone and she said western union was open and they are receiving. I went to the store nobody was in the front desk at resolution center and someone came 5 minutes later then waited again to take my two forms of ID and the system down... so not only I wasted my time but she didn't communicate very well at all. This store is terrible and i am so disappointed that i have to keep driving my ways to come and find out somebody else tells me something else. This one star belongs to the Giant pharmacy. Avoid this pharmacy like the plague. They have horrible customer service and every time I've ever gone, I've stood in line for at least 45 minutes because they've messed up everyone in line's prescription. Even when I've called in refills days in advance, I've arrived to find they haven't filled my prescription without even calling me if there was some problem. No one cares if they mess up, they just push you to the side saying they're "looking into it" while gossiping about inappropriate things and not looking into anything. read more

This Giant is the worst. I waited for an hour and a half for a prescription. First they couldn't find it because they spelled my name wrong, then they took 90 minutes to fill it, and lastly they made me go to the back of the line (of 8 people) despite already being there for 2 hours. Inconsiderate, slow, and pushed me to the verge of a mental breakdown. Now my hair is blue and I am permanently changing pharmacies to CVS. Thank you for nothing Giant :) read more

The day will come when we all just buy everything from Amazon. I don't want that to happen, like it is for department stores, but it their own fault. So dear Giant Food, here some advise before your gone: If you discontinue something I have always purchased there, let me request it. Don't separate organic/Whole Foods from the rest. I'll bet the majority of people buy such products when they can, if price is not crucial. But, anyone who buys such products exclusively isn't shopping at your store. I don't have time for your old model, when shoppers are encouraged to stroll up and down the isles, leisurely browsing, so stop rearranging everything! Last time you moved something and I had to go all the back to the other side of the store, I was livid! Stop playing with me! I do not have time. Most important- don't make me wait to pay you. I swear I have put everything to the side and walked out rather than wait. The only time I will use the self checkout is if I have a few things. These days, that's rare because my husband is so mad at you he refuses to go any more. (Thanks, Giant, now I have lost his help.) and I avoid going, so I don't go until I need a lot of stuff! Nice enough store with decent staff doing a pretty good job. Conveniently situated so I can stop and grab a few things after dropping my wife off at the train station in the mornings. I wish I had rated them before they shut down the ovens in their bakery though, I would have given them 5 starts just for that. Unfortunately in the past two weeks they've opted for shipping in their bakery products frozen, then thawing them out. I like going to the Giant on Wilkens Avenue. They staff is very friendly and helpful. Other than a few occasions here and there, I can pretty much find what I am looking for. The only real drawback I experience at this Giant is the parking lot. The parking lot is a decent size, but the parking lot always seems to be crowded, especially since there are a couple of stores around there as well. You are able to use your Giant rewards card at Shell stations for gas, so saving money on gas is always a plus. read more

I went to this store with my brother to transfer some money to my relative today Dec 5 at 7pm. The person who was working at the Western Union station (her name was Victoria) had the worst customer service. She was very rude to me, my brother, and other customers as well. While my brother and I were waiting in line, I saw that she had a bad attitude to the customer before me. She basically yelled at this lady and ordered her around (not letting this lady's husband and kids to stand with her at the Western Union desk...etc..). When it was my turn, she did not greet me or even say hello. She made a hand gesture ordering me to come around. When I tried to fill out the form to transfer my money, she acted like she was a police. She demanded to know where my money was coming from. I outright told her that it was not her business. The Western Union form did not ask me of where my money was coming form, then why the heck did she need to know. Also, I have used Western Union to transfer money many times, and the last time was just a few days ago. Nobody ever asked such private question, especially when the money being transferred was such a small amount. Anyway, Victoria insisted on knowing where did I got my hard earned money from and I of course wouldn't tell her. Speaking in a tone that was close to yelling, she pointed to my brother and ordered him to go sit away, since he was not the person that made the transfer. She spoke to me in the same rude tone, as if she was a big boss. I was so frustrated, I told her that I would talk to her manager. She smiled and acted like she didn't care. I found the manager of this store and told him about what happened. After the manager talked to this Victoria, she laughed and acted as if it was of a joking matter that she was rude to a customer. Well, if this worker doesn't care about her job and so doesn't care about providing customer service store patrons, then she should just quit. Don't work here and act like she can boss other people around or yell at people and ask questions such as "where did you get your money??" Also, if Giant still keeps such rude and uncaring worker, it will continue to have many frustrated customers like me. read more

Been shopping at this location for 10 years and have nothing but good things to say, Food is always fresh. Seafood and meat sections always filed wth wonderful selections. Fruits are mostly good although at times really over priced. checkout lines are at times long but remember, you are not the only person shopping here and this is what happens when you shop during evening hours Thursday through Saturday. If you have 2 items or 52 items, learn to use the self checkout. Everyone wants faster service but more staff to have every line open normally means higher prices. If prices increase we will now have a new issue to gripe about. People in Russia and other countries stand n line for hours for a few items that they then need to go home and take hours to bake their own bread. Parkig lot complaints, really. Would you like them to assign each customer their own individually marked spot. The only complaint I agree with is the pharmacy. Always out of a medication that you need, never give you a courtesy call to advise of a problem and instances of wrong meds being filled.
