Last Wednesday, I had a day off and ended up in Oakville. I typically do my grocery run on Wednesdays and needed to find a Giant Tiger. I learned that Oakville doesn't have one. The outrage that I had was unexpected! I did a search and found this one in Mississauga. It didn't take long to get here from downtown Oakville. It was around ten minutes. I pulled into Millway Shopping Centre (it's really a plaza) and didn't have a problem finding a parking spot. I backed into one and headed over to the store. There was a female panhandler in front of the store that was asking for money. It was my second time being asked for change in front of a Giant Tiger. The problem is that I don't carry change with me, especially during a pandemic when I pay using either a credit or debit card. I told her that detail and walked into the store. I like that there's a greeter at the store when you walk in these days. It's twofold. It's to make sure that the store doesn't exceed the maximum capacity of folks shopping. It is also to check that you're wearing a mask. She was nice and said hi. I reciprocated. My goal was to get avocados and celery. I achieved it with flying colours. There were two displays of avocados. One display had ripe ones. The other one wasn't as ripe. I always get the six-pack of avocados and they are cheap at under $3. I saw a woman taking celery out of a box and putting them into the produce section. I asked if she could hand me a couple from the box. She was great and handed them over to me. They were so fresh. I felt so VIP with my celery! Although I haven't done much shoe browsing during this pandemic, I loved the sneakers here. Sadly, they offer women's shoe sizes from 6 to 9. Such a bummer for someone who swears a size 11! I haven't seen Squishmallows at Giant Tiger stores in months. It was the case at this store. Instead, I looked at larger baby Yoda plushies. I had enough willpower to not buy one. There wasn't a huge lineup at the checkout. I had a nice woman help cash me out. I decided to finally sign up for GT VIP mailing list and took a leaflet on how to do it. She was nice. I paid, got my goodies, and wished her a good day. I realize that this visit was my first at any Giant Tiger in Mississauga. I tend to visit GT stores in Etobicoke, Scarborough, and Stouffville the most. I love giant tiger. From the outside it surely isn't anything special. This location sits in an older plaza. In the summer they hand racks of clothing that are on mega sale outside for you to browse. I find giant tiger best for inexpensive basics - sweatpants for $9, packs of bras and underwear pretty affordable. I've also purchased house items such as small carpets and shelving here. My most recent trip was to secure a pair of snow pants so I can walk outside on the chilly days. They only had about 6 pairs of black snow pants hanging on a rack with minimal sizing this time - I guess people had the same idea as me and beat me to it. I grabbed a pair that were a bit larger for me but could be tied. For the amount i'd use them - $30 seemed fine? They were shiny in the material and basically looked like i was wearing garbage bags but - it's fine. I roamed to the mens side of things and ended up trying on a smaller mens size with a more muted black material - winner! They were also $5 cheaper than the woman's - score! Are they flattering? NO. Will they keep my tush warm next week when I attempt to go skiing? YES. read more

This is your one better than dollar store. You can usually find cheap pjs bottoms for people you have no idea what to buy. I also find a lot of cheap kitchen and bathroom stuff. Like shower curtain 3.49$. I find the produce is in stock but I see stuff just close to expiration in the fridge section. If I'm shopping close to an hour I do find y cat allergies kick in so the clothing must have been transported near cats or really old stock (Winners stores also kick start my cat allergies too). The staff are friendly and even considerate when you return an item. There are many as seen on TV. This is like a zellers with more sales. I would say prices and quality of items are like surplus store. 3 cent off per reusable bag used. read more

There are always great deals at the "GT Boutique". Occasionally, you can get some decent inexpensive clothes here as well as a variety of household items, food and other items. This is one of the better stores with more options of stock available than some of the others in the chain. read more

I was recently deflowered by my first Giant Tiger experience. We don't have Giant Tigers out west, so imagine my delight when I came across this superstore. Giant Tiger can best be described as Walmart meets Target. They sell everything! Clothes, shoes, appliances, food, and the list goes on and on. Prices are cheap and I honestly spent a good hour just rummaging around and looking at EVERYTHING. I'm not going to lie to you however - you will have to spend some time looking around in order to find that diamond in the rough. It's always difficult to review a discount/"value" store. There are certain caveats that come with the format, and you never really know what you're going to find when you enter one. This Giant Tiger has always been a preferred destination for cheap buys... but, and there's always a "but", it's lacking in a number of areas. Another review mentioned that this was an analogue to the former K-Mart. Not true at all. I used to visit K-Mart religiously back in the day. Unless there's an automated hour-long PA broadcast announcing deals, crowds as far as the eye can see and a bloated setup, it's not a K-Mart, or even a Zellers, for that matter. The closest thing I can compare this to is something like Ollie's from the States - both discount stores with major retail presence. Tiger is also known for importing a number of American brands. Part of the appeal of this place is that you never really know what kind of odd off-brand U.S. food items you'll find tucked away in the shelves. You can find some decent deals if you search around the place. Schneider's chicken products usually go on sale for steep discounts, there are some decent DVD buys (especially if you're willing to take a gamble on any of the $1 DVD's, which are filled with some of the most hilarious trash you can get anywhere) and there are often some really good deals on licensed t-shirts. However, do not under any circumstances buy produce from here. Every time I visit the place, I find the sad crisper tucked against a corner near the pastries and crackers, and every time I've bought lettuce or carrots from there, they always go bad within a couple of days. Like almost everything else with this location, the selection is really hit-or-miss. If you're looking for brand-name items or a good-quality selection of food, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want some cheap items that won't break the bank, this place isn't half-bad. read more

I remember the days when i would come here on my school break looking for these little strawberry cheesecake cups they have for a dollar. Now they don't have it anymore! Giant Tiger is kind of like a modern K-mart (back when we still had them) meets Zellers meets Dollarama. Yup all three. They sell frozen food items, packaged food, clothes, shoes, toys, household items. They have clothes and shoes for men, woman and kids. They have pretty neat things here for low prices, you need time to look through things though. Sometimes you can't find anything, some days you can find some great things. I heard their other locations in Niagara and Hamilton have better items there that you can't find here. So I guess you can say its kind of like a Wal-mart except theres no produce here. This used to be a Food Basics location long ago and became Giant Tiger a few years back. However, I haven't visisted since it converted. I believe Giant Tiger has always been in this plaza but they expanded in this location. I have to say, they have some good "knock-off" clothes for cheap, such as Under Armour knock off for $10 to $20, some decent shoes for $20 (which I'm sure will get old after 1-2 months but the prices are cheap. It's what I call "disposable" travel clothes. You can look nice in them, but if they get ruined, so be it. They also have some fresh produce at reasonable prices as well as some toys and other things. Verdict: It's the Bi-Way of the 2000's. Better deals than Target but a lot smaller. read more

I will review some Giant Tiger food products as I try them. I am pretty sure that, like Dollarama, GT has products nobody else has. 7 Days Filo Rollini, "Real Greek Spinach Pie" ***** (5 stars) I guess they think most people don't understand the word "Spanakopita", which is written on the back of the package. 1000g, 24-26 pieces (I didn't count them but there were lots). Finally, an easy to cook, authentic-seeming frozen product that I like. In case you don't know Spanakopita, it is usually feta cheese, spinach, and onions inside filo pastry. Cooks up brown and crispy outside and soft inside. Yummy if done right, which this is. This particular one has mithra cheese, which is made from cow, sheep, and goat milk, while feta is made from sheep and/or goat milk. So, I baked a few in my toaster oven (4 at a time was lots) and they were crunchy and soft inside and delicious with some plain yogurt as a dip. Not cheap at about $8 at GT but good frozen food is so rare I will gladly pay that again. Laurie's Cabbage Rolls *** (3 stars) 907 g, frozen, I think there were 5 cabbage rolls in the box. My big problem with this product is the carelessness in not telling me it is loaded up with black pepper, which I don't like. There is also the long cooking time (up to 75 minutes) and the fact that the cabbage can be tough even after that, and there is gristle in the beef (at least they have beef instead of some cabbage rolls which contain only rice). Too much salt, of course. The pluses are that it it were not for the pepper I would probably like them, and there is lots of tomato sauce. Simple ingredients, nothing too scary. read more
