We couldn't decide if we wanted to do Boboli or Bardini (no time to do both) but we ended up at the…read moreentrance to Bardini first so we decided to check it out. Fair warning, the entrance isn't very clearly marked. It looks just like a business front and I was confused as to how entering the park would actually work. I didn't do much research (which is a shock I know) into this garden before coming and was a bit daunted by the uphill climb. From the entrance, I assumed there would be a funicular or something. I was wrong. Not only am I not in shape, but I've been having some medical issues, and I was terrified I just paid an entrance fee to a park that I cannot check out. Luckily, the switchbacks are super gentle. We could hardly "feel" walking up this hill. There was also a lot to look at as we walked up so it was really a beautiful "hike." We were confused a bit by the signs and how far the garden went up. We weren't the only ones either because two couples past us while we rested on a bench, wondering if they were going the "right way" as well. I was expecting a bit more "garden" but got more "trees and shrubs" but I think this place is worth the hike just for the views of Florence alone.

This is a beautiful park on the banks of the river where you can walk, run, cycle or skate. It is a…read morewonderful place all year round and it also hosts a large market every Tuesday morning where you can buy clothes, bags, shoes, bed linen amongst other things and you can always pick up a bargain. During the summer (from June) the Pavionere bar and swimming pool opens and it is a nice escape from the city heat. The bar is especially nice in the evening where the soft lighting and the sound of people swimming in the pool give the place a real holiday feel. There is also a hammock for anyone who feels really laid back but be warned it can be quite hard to get out of once you are in it!

So relaxing to walk around here. If you're looking to extract yourself from the busy center for a bit and have a different type of hang out, come to this park's little caffe bar to grab a beer in the summer, some wine, or a coffee in winter and sit in the comfy chairs overlooking the sunset on the Arno! There is an area dedicated for me, with swings and slides. Also there happen to be some children stealing my spot in the swings from time to time ;) And of course you might get to see the occasional homeless in the further end part of the park setting up camp for the night that you can cuddle with if you had too much wine. It is these little lungs in Florence that help you have a break away from the concrete jungle if you want a little bit of nature not too far of a walk from the center.
