Perfect place for some tranquility in the middle of the city. This was not on my list to visit the first time I was in the city. It happened to be just about 5 mins away by foot from where we were staying. We didn't book tickets ahead of time, but it was no problem as there was no line when we got there. There weren't that many flowers in bloom which was a bummer, but everything was trimmed that it reminded me of gardens in France. You can get a ton of steps in if you decide to walk every corner. I went up every stairs I saw. You get a great view of the city from the top. It was so nice to not hear the honks of cars and traffic noise. I was a little jealous of the folks who brought in their lunches. A ton of people were having themselves a little picnic situation in the corners that had shade. The property is kept super clean. I didn't see any staff on the actual grounds, but everything was orderly. read more

We stumbled across this garden and honestly, didn't enter through the main entrance as everyone else seems to do with the long line. We didn't even know it had a main bc Google maps routed us to the back entrance that didn't look very official but it was a chain linked gate fence thing from the garden side. Also, fun fact, Google maps routed us the LONG steep way behind the garden up a steep hill but we stumbled across Galileo's house on our walk. It's nearby the garden! So we weren't sure if we were in the right spot because we came up on an empty parking lot and thought it was staff parking or something but Google said we had arrived. So We walked right up, no wait, the ticket lady was rude though. guy checked hubby's backpack but it was like a super chill check. No metal detectors, no xray machine for our stuff like we would later notice once we got to the main entrance and had everyone do that. We did the combo ticket for the garden & the mansion. We spent about 3-4 hours here and we easily could've spent 2 more! All fountains are free drinking water and there's restrooms which are included in your ticket. The grounds were beautiful! If you like gardens and a stroll, you'll love this place. Near the mansion, there's a cafe, gift shop, lockers. The majority enter/start thru the Mansion grounds. We learned once you leave the garden area, you can't go back. So bc we started with the garden, then the mansion, but didn't know we couldn't go back to the garden. They scan your ticket! After the mansion we wanted to return to the garden but ours wouldn't scan so we think the rude ticket lady scanned it for us. But the guy was nice and still let us return after we explained to him and showed him on the map where we had entered thru. Oh where we entered was also their parking lot! It was such a disappointment It is touted as a beautiful garden with hedged rows and fountains and what we got was major restoration in progress with all the statues covered and uphill slog with no reward. Areas were fenced off, no flowers to be seen anywhere and all I wanted to do was leave. The only saving grace was the people watching which was entertaining to say the least. We bought tickets online ahead of time, which you should definitely do. Our ticket was for a Friday at 11 AM and when we got there, there was a HUGE line. It seems as though the line for Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace is combined into one (but you can buy tickets for just the gardens, which is what we did). Luckily, I went straight to the front and told them I already had tickets, and they said I wouldn't need to wait on the monstrous line. After a few security checks, we were in! The Gardens are well kept and the grounds are very big. You could easily spend at least half a day here, especially since you're allowed to bring your own food in for a picnic. We bought some focaccia and found benches in a shaded tree path to enjoy them. Make sure you take a picture of the map near the entrance, so you know where you're going. There are many walking paths, and chances for photo ops. We stayed for about 1.5 hours before it got too hot and we were getting tired, so we called it quits. I wouldn't say it's a must see if you're visiting Florence, but if you have the time and you like gardens, then this is a nice one to check out. read more

An absolute must see when visiting Florence! This large-scale garden was absolutely stunning even during off season. There would definitely be large crowds during peak season so get there early and order tickets in advance, however it's not necessary to. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for hills and uneven surfaces. There weren't many options for individuals with accessibility issues. There are public bathrooms and water fountains but you can't come in with food or beverages. There is also a nice little caffe in the front courtyard. located right behind the Pitti Palace, the gardens are quite spectacular. It is a bit of a hike uphill to the uppermost point, but well worth the effort. The views of the city and Duomo are first rate. It really is a park rather than a garden given it size. Lots of trees and grass along with some spectacular statues and art installations. There is an even higher point accessed via a staircase that allows views on the other side of the hill and well worth the hike. As noted it mostly gravel so those with strollers and small kids be forewarned. Also there is no services etc and it takes at least 1+ hours to stroll through it all (more like 2) if you power through it. The views from both sides are spectacular. There is a fountain installation about halfway up the hill and is in dire need of restoration. You also get decent views of the Palace itself (I found the palace to be a bit monotonous but I digress). If you get a ticket to the Uffizi for a modest upgrade you can get admission to this and the palace as well. The walk alone to the palace is fantastic as well. read more

Beautiful gardens that are free to enter and wander and wander and wander. Your wandering is entirely self-directed. There are quite a few great spots to go with interesting garden sculptures, great views, topiary and other things to see. I enjoyed the Fontana del Nettuno and the view from near the Museo delle porcellane. Note: As of April 2022, the entrance/exit gate at Forte Belvedere is closed. If you love Italy and love Italian art and antiquities, but are just a little bit done with seeing all the churches in museums, then take a break here. First of all, it gets you out of the area where everybody is an over to the Pitti Palace across the Arno. It's hot so if you have light skin, then definitely wear a hat, sunglasses, and lots of sunblock. But it'll give you some space from all the throngs of people, pushing and breathing up against you in Florence proper. Perfect place to wander around and find shaded places. Make sure to make it all the way to the top so you can see the Tuscan views. It's incredible to walk around these gardens and think about how rich these people were. You can't keep track of how many statues are tucked away, and all the corners of this beautiful place. We went on a day where admission was free, so that was a nice surprise! From what we did see, it was beautiful gardens and many stairs up to get great views. We could have explored more but that would've meant you'd have to stay a few hours, several trails are around and there was a couple there having pictures taken. The Boboli Gardens are a fantastic oasis in the middle of Florence if you want to get away from the huge crowds, busy streets, and heat. The best tip is to enter through the Annalena gate to get to Boboli and skip the huge line at Palazzo Pitti. You walk West past Palazzo Pitti along Via Romana street for about two minutes and there is a small entrance on your left with little to no line and the entrance fee is 10 euros. I went on a Sunday and it was free. The gardens have lots of shade trees, sculptures, and an occasional fountain which are fun to find. You can easily spend an hour or two there and at the top of the hill you get great views of Florence. read more

This is a huge garden attached to Pitti Palace. You can buy tickets to see both or the garden separately. Your ticket to Boboli Gardens will also gain you admission to the neighboring Bardini Gardens. The main plaza for Boboli is what many have seen in photos and videos. It's a feast for the eyes with the symmetrical placement of statuary and fountains and the perfectly trimmed shrubbery. Beyond this there are acres of grass, tall hedges and trees with paths winding through them. After the initial "wow" of the main plaza the rest of the place was a bit underwhelming. It's just a large park. The whole park is on a hill so if you go exploring downhill remember to be prepared for a long uphill climb to get back. At the very top of the park is a porcelain museum (for those that have an interest) with a great view and a not-so-impressive flower garden. We were disappointed that the most beautiful portion of the Gardens closes at 1pm for some unknown reason. There is no mention of this anywhere until you get to the entrance of that section. We got to that area around 2pm to find many other tourists with sad faces. The other thing that was odd to me was a number of modern art sculptures located around the park which didn't really seem to fit amongst the historic pieces. I saw several smart people who brought food and drink to enjoy while sitting on a bench. There's nothing sold on site. Great views and a nice place to walk around outside of downtown but honestly this wasn't as wonderful as I'd imagined. read more

Boboli Gardens Nice gardens. Don't take a stroller or a kid that needs to be carried all the time. Gravel and stairs- impossible. Do get a reservation online. Even if you do it on the spot you will still skip the line. Don't expect to get a coffee on the garden grounds. You will keep walking with the whining toddler only to be met by closed doors and not the even so much of a sign as to when they open or if there even is a functioning coffee house there at all. We ended up having coffee by the entrance courtyard and enjoying a break there. read more

It pains me to say we were a little disappointed. More of an arboretum than gardens. Lots of trees with many large spaces to wander and take your time. A few stunning viewpoints to take pictures of the scenery and city'-scape beyond. The history is consuming. The price for what you get is very reasonable. We wanted the gardens to be manicured gardens. The garden areas were unkept, exhausted from summer, full of spent flowers. The grass areas were very trodden. Many water features were dry. I would much rather have the price for paying adults be a bit more to afford the property to maintain into fall. I will say, one of the ladies rooms I visited in the gardens property was very nice. I visited with my mom and my younger brother in July 2021. We visited earlier in the day, which was good because it wasn't unbearably hot. However, there really wasn't a lot to see. I was disappointed by that, as well as by the fact that there is nowhere to get water. If you decide to go, make sure you bring all of your refreshments with you! Also, the entrance and exit are a bit confusing due to COVID-19. We had to try several entrances before we were finally able to find the "right" one. They did take our temperatures upon arrival, and they printed out our tickets for us since we prepaid online. These gardens were possibly my favorite part of my visit to Florence. They sit right behind the Pitti palace which was a former house of the Medici family. Warning the gardens are high up which means you need to be in moderate to good shape, ready to walk steep inclines, and wear sneakers or a comfortable shoe. The gardens are humongous and you can get great views of Florence but you will need to climb. You can also get lost in the gardens bc there are so many different paths to walk. This is a good thing. Cypress alley and the fountains were my favorite. The garden behind the porcelain museum is a must. Wish we could have gone to the Kaffehaus but we were trapped in the lemon house on the other side of the gardens during a horrible storm and by the time it was over it was time to leave. - My only issue is that you have to pay to access the gardens which makes me wonder who they are meant for. This is the equivalent of a Central Park so the fact that it's possibly only for tourists is odd. read more

Oh so disappointing...Boboli Gardens are supposed to be the epitome of Renaissance-style gardens and the parallel of the famous garden of Chateau de Versailles, but it's so poorly maintained. Located behind Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Gardens used to be the regal gardens reserved for the residing Medicis and Lorraines when they were the Dukes of Tuscany, so I was so looking forward to visiting this supposedly beautiful garden. Yet, I was sad to see the unkempt lawn, the overgrowing shrubs, and the muddy fountains...If this garden was well-maintained, I think it would be beautiful thanks for the layout designs and the installed sculptures, but unfortunately the current state makes this notable gardens ugly especially in the beautiful city of Florence. I would not recommend this as your primary destination if you are short on time in Florence as they are better and more beautiful things to see. If you do come, be ready to walk a long distance and traversing uphill to explore the entirety of the garden. We came to the Boboli Gardens / Giardino di Boboli on a recommendation from a family member and were not disappointed. Let me start off by saying to please give yourself about three plus hours if you plan to come here and know that there is quite a bit of walking and up-hill walking traversing (great workout). Within the Gardens you'll find a myriad of spectacles including amazing landscapes, statues, palaces, exhibits, and vistas to die for. If you're able to, definitely try to get to the very top of the park as the 360 degree view of Florence is second to none (well maybe second to the Piazzale Michelangelo). The park closes at around 5 PM / 17:00 so plan accordingly. Definitely bring a camera and water/food to last as this would also be an ideal place for a picnic. There are plenty of bathrooms located along the outskirts of the park and should you need any refreshments, there is a full-service cafe at the palace at the bottom. Enjoy! read more

Our Italian friend told us the best place to see the Florence skyline is the Piazzale Michelangelo. So last Sunday we walked across the Pescala di S Niccolò to check it out. Unfortunately it was closed to prepare for fireworks we were told. Hoping to get a good view from another high vantage point from across the Arno, we went to Palazzo Pitti and the neighboring Giardino di Boboli. We paid a€6 admission to the grounds. While it's huge and grand I must confess that it's not as pretty as the Plaza de Espana in Seville (free) nor as magnificent as the Schoenberg Palace in Vienna. read more

Costs more that the gardens in France, but seems like they are resting on their laurels...aka their name. I came there during a sunny day and it was quite amazing despite the huge number of visitors. This is the place to be to have a walk with your family starting with the palazzo and ending with the forte belvedere. The view on the roofs of Firenze is splendid. The trees and the way the nature is displayed make the beauty and the serenity of the park. The statues are not really an asset for the place except the big head at the top of the garden. I came to Giardino di Boboli with my friends while we were visiting Florence. I am a big fan of shrubbery and all things ancient and foreign, so I was very pleased with what I experienced while walking through the beautifully tended gardens. This garden has lots of fountains, arched-tree-pathways, and shrub mazes. The gardens are vast, so you'll need more than 2 hours to walk though most of the place. If you walk along a certain path, you'll reach a plateau with the most charming views of Florence. Within the gardens you can also tour the home of the wealthy family that owned the property in the Renaissance era. This place is a must- see in my book! read more

It's very large, and from the top, there are some very lovely views of the city. Parts of it are somewhat poorly maintained, but others are very nice. Contrary to advice from a local tour guide, I would NOT recommend visiting during winter months when there are no flowers. Steep walk to the top, forested wall down to the fountain which needs restoration - looks neglected - then long slightly uphill walk back to Exit where grotto is located. Grotto was probably best part of visit, yet not reason to visit the gardens. Porcelain museum was a quick spin through visit, again not a destination. This comment coming from someone who seeks out ceramics, porcelain and decorative exhibits while traveling. If during warner months they do not have notable flower plantings, I would not recommend a visit. If you have never seen palatial gardens then this would be a first to see extensive plantings, a trellised tunnel, and corridors of tall hedges, but having visited outstanding gardens on different continents, this was simply exercise amongst trees. After climbing to the top of the Duomo, bell tower, another church tower, and touring this lovely city over the last few days, I am not seeking unnecessary steps at this time.... read more

Location: On the other side of the Arno, about 15 minutes on foot from the Duomo. The place: WOW! This huge garden is green and luscious, and perfectly quiet! If you need a break from the tourists and the busy streets of Florence (especially those crazy cyclists) then this secluded spot is for you. It's nature at its best, and there are no crowds. You can take a leisurely walk at your own pace, and never run into anyone else. One piece of advice - make sure you get a map of the garden so that you don't get lost. Price point: 10 Euro. This also gives you access to the Pitti's Argento and Porcelain museums but it was such a beautiful day that I couldn't be bothered to roam around indoors. I only visited the gardens. read more

If I could give a zero star, I would. For 10 euro, you would expect a nice garden with pristine hedges, well kept flowers, and running fountains. Unfortunately, this garden has none of the above. We went in October and none of the fountains that we went to were running, and instead had a nice pool of green water sitting beneath them. The gardens were also incredibly dilapidated--hedges were not trimmed, weeds were growing in the flower gardens, and arches were covered with scraggly trees. Save your money, don't go. The views of florence are pretty, but you can get those at the tower of the Duomo. read more

The ticket office sold us tickets to the Boboli Garden at 6:15 pm and the sign and the website said that it closed at 7:30 pm. When we tried to enter the garden, they had already closed the garden due to an opera. Furthermore, they would not refund our money. We found the lack of compassion of the ticket office to be fairly typical of the workers at other ticket offices for other tourist sights in Florence, but this experience was particularly disappointing. read more
