They often have deals on with bottled bears and Bazardi Breezers and they are often an absolute bargain. I came here last summer as I was making a family meal and I had forgotten to buy tomatoes which were a pretty important ingredient. I nipped along the Tesco Express just a few doors along but they had sold out. Oh dear. Not really sure what to do I decided to give this little store a try. As soon as I popped in the door I was greeted by a box of red, ripe, juicy tomatoes, phew! I bought around 4 and they came to about 80p, what a bargain! The woman working that day was really helpful and chatted to me as she was bagging my tomatoes so I decided to share my tomato based disaster with her. Thank goodness Value Convenient Store saved the day!

The only thing that I'm beginning to find slightly off putting is the frequency with which we pop in for a weekend frozen pizza and a bottle of Black Heart rum Both of which are often too tempting to pass by with the frozen pizza a little pricey at £1.99 but really delicious and on the table within half an hour! Meanwhile, a tasty bottle of Black Heart is a mere £13.99. This shop is not only good for frozen and/or instant food but also stocks most simple ingredients for pasta bakes and the like e.g. cheese, onions, peperoni (three for £1.50) and jars of bolognese sauce. Full marks, top score and five stars all round.

This isn't always the case and one time when I asked a taxi driver to drop me here my request was met with a; "Who's Garry? How am I supposed to know where he lives?" Oops. Garry is always in store and over the years has built up a loyal customer base, he takes the time to talk to his customers and is always interested in the local community which is why Garry's is always such a bustling little shop. They also ask that all customers that look under the age of 25 carry ID and the purchase of a Buckfast bottle is limited to 1 per customer to stop people buying it for underagers so they can run amok in the park later on. I've also found that Garry's is great for bargains, there's always some kind of special offer on and at Christmas time they had huge grab bags of Doritos for only 99p which was great as we always had a supply of crisps and dip for our Christmas visitors. I'll usually pop into Garry's for a lottery ticket if i'm feeling lucky, or just to stock up on snacks. It's a great little shop and if you're looking for an essential then I would recommend popping by here!

Even if I was at these small shops at the Broom, I would probably still go out of my way to go to a supermarket elsewhere (e.g. Asda or M&S at the Avenue, Waitrose by the M77) because this one is just a bit rubbish.

Great staff , very helpful especially the wee guy with the beard; Steven i think is his name always a smile and a happy chat to customers which doesn't seem to figure much these days to people especially in areas like Newton Mearns which is a shame! Yes prices are not the cheapest but there is more to life than price which everyone seems obsessed with and the Co-Op has always been there to help ordinary folks and still does so I feel good supporting them whether in Brodick in Arran when I am on holiday over there or here in Newton Mearns. Don't forget your co-op card when you go with 5% cashback and 1% to charity! Clean and organised layout with most of what you need for emergency supplies and top up food. The store is a top up shop and is really used by the surrounding locals in the Broom area who dont have cars or from the many retirement homes dotted all around it. Very convenient and opens till 10pm which is great 7 days a week! Always a cheery sight when you get off the bus late at night just outside and need some milk or bread and long may the store continue.

This is certainly convenient and it does the job. However, I would rather walk a few minutes up to S & A Food Stores. Mainly due to the claustrophobic feeling that can easily be felt upon stepping into Ashy's. It's also a result of other customer's in Ashy's who seem indifferent to you at best, and down right rude at worst. Something which is a big pet hate of mine. I suppose, this comes with the territory of having people double park and jump into your shop for ciggies and the like.

It's a rather small shop, but they manage to cram an awful lot of good in. They have special offers each week and they'll often have buy one get one free on cans of juice or bottled water. A few times I've failed to spot these offers but the staff will always point out if I'm missing out on a bargain! The staff are also really friendly and you always get served with a smile.

The staff are very friendly and always give you a genuine smile as well as all the please and thank you's. It might not sound like much, but it does make a different if you're shopping in somewhere a few times a week (and usually on the way home after a long and rather bad day). It's also stocks a good enough range of cheap (ish) alcohol. So you can pick up pretty much all the little bits and pieces you might need. Though, beware it does shut slightly earlier than the other newsagents around here, probably around the 8pm mark. Hence, if you're making a quick carry out dash don't even think of trying here.

In saying this, my usual order is: a one zone monthly trans-card; a can of diet irn bru and a fredo. So, I've not exactly went to town in here. However, on the odd occasion when I have gotten other bits and bobs all's seemed in order. Although, I did get a rather strange reaction when I get more usual order, checked the price of their cough bottles and then asked for one at the last minute. Not so bad - I know - but my cough was hiding at that point and I did look rather rough, hungover and apparently like a cough syrup abuser. Oh dear.

I have to say that this one is probably one of the best as it is open 365 days a year! I lived in a flat on Clarkston Road a few years ago and although I don't smoke my old flatmate was like a chimney. It was the evening of New Years Day 2008 and she had run out. She was getting cranky and there appeared to be absolutely nowhere open, which is understandable on New Years Day. We took a stroll further along Clarkston Road and Cathcart Mini Market came up trumps. She was able to pop in for her cigarettes and the day way saved, hurrah! This shop is also quite a bit bigger than most other newsagents around the area so if you are looking for something and can't find it in any other newsagents then pop here as chances are they'll have it!
