By no surprise, I am a fan of Poundland myself since I do often find items here that suit my simple everyday needs, all of course for £1. Therefore you can't really complain about things being cheap quality because products are meant to be a basic standard. But what you do get normally without disappointment is items like shampoo, quick snacks and drinks. On the other hand, electronics or tools may sometimes be dodgy but it all depends on your own perspective. At the end of the day for £1, you can't really argue about quality. If you're looking to buy something simple on a budget, then come to Poundland as they sell a wide variety of products at their well stocked and service efficient St. Johns Precinct branch.

Poundland is always very busy. There are several tills which are usually all open and have queues. The staff work hard to get customers served as quickly as possible.

That and the fact that more than a third seem to be empty means that the market is getting worse not better. It seems to be going in the direction of the rest of Warrington town centre, Downwards. Well done to the handful of good stalls on there. Notably the Game and Fish stalls along with a good veg stall. Mr Tasty brightens the place up and now has the largest stall in there. If a fraction of people in Warrington stopped using the supermarkets all the time and paid a Weekly or even Monthly visit to the Market then it may be able halt the decline and improve. The Stall I like include the following. African/Jamaican produce Caribbean Hot food store Cheese store Sausage Store Mr Tasty Butchers and cooked/roast food Veg store Game Store Fish monger For others there is a sports/angling store A cafe' Lots of clothes, shoes and bag store. The checkout area is well-managed with multiple self-service checkouts, this is good to see as it can be poorly managed without self-scanning checkouts at other locations, especially outside of big cities. The beverage and fridge sections were a little lacking, compared to other stores, but overall the selection was OK. They were low on staff, I always find Poundland to be a mini jumble sale and can struggle to find items, it's a shame there weren't staff on hand to assist here. 3* - Average Poundland store, some good products and A-OK for sure. Another nice brand to have in Chorley's town centre.

This store is not as busy and therefore it is easier to wander round and browse at your leisure. There is an excellent range of CD's, DVD's, posters, t-shirts, games, consoles magazines and books on sale. The store is brightly lit and is very well organised. It is easy to find items within the store, but if you have problems there is always a member of staff around that will be happy to help. If you need any information then the staff at the tills are happy to look it up for you and they are very helpful and friendly. All the items on sale are competitively priced and there are often offers on such as 3 dvd's for £20 or 2 t-shirts for £20. The opening hours are excellent, being open till 9pm during the week. I have found this to be an excellent place when looking for a last minute present for someone. The parking in New Mersey Retail Park is excellent and there is always a free space to be found. An excellent store.

Overall this HMV may not win your hearts like the one in Market Street in Manchester, but hey, it is HMV at its best around here!

Probably not something to shout about but…read moreconsidering Tom Morris started out by inheriting a very modest family business and turning HB into a multi million pound nationwide chain is nothing to sneer at. Cheap and cheerful is the motto - not officially but I'm guessing it's what it would be - as 'top brands at bargain prices' is the name of the game. I can't say that I have been to any HB much bigger than this store but HB's are not somewhere to do your weekly shop but more a place to get daily essentials.

It is a store filled with top brands at bottom prices and the variety of basic home essentials, canned and quick snacks they sell makes it an ideal source where you can buy general everyday items. Sometimes you can get away without having to go to the bigger stores as you can often find cheaper prices and get better value for money here. After all, it is really home and bargain! The service at each till is often busy but efficient and staff will put all your items into a carrier bag, so you don't have to. You can always trust this place and you can't really go wrong.
