What a great spot in Mounks Corner! I feel like this is a mini shem creek. We came here on a Friday night in late winter so it was not busy at all...but it was 80 degrees out that day so we could still sit outside. My husband and I sat out on the dock area. It is pet friendly, and has a nice view of the river. Server greated us quickly and brought over a basket of hush puppies that were really good. I ordered crab cakes with a side of fries and corn. My husband ordered oysters and shrimp. My crabcakes were delicious, very flavorful and breaded nice for some texture. Corn was good and so were the fries. My husband also enjoyed his oysters and shrimp. We will be back for sure!

Located on the tailrace canal, Gilligan's is a restaurant focused on seafood that's not pretentious but comforting. Getting there is fairly easy, parking is wide open and the view is outstanding. Walking up to Gilligan's is an experience as it's nestled right there on the river which varies in speed and height depending on how much water is being let out of the lake. There are a few tables up front but take the time to walk on the wrap around deck to back and spend some time on the river. It's therapeutic and humbling as you can see how a river has so much strength while remaining beautiful. Walking inside, the interior is extremely laid back with simple paintings, obnoxious ocean blues, mounted fish and aquariums. Don't walk in wearing a suit & tie as you'll be overdressed, rather enjoy your flip flops and light weight clothing. The waitstaff is extremely pleasant, knowledgeable and makes you feel like the top priority. Also notice when sitting at the simple tables that they have a built-in bucket! This is great when dealing with peal and eat shrimp, oysters, etc. So how is the food? Well, this isn't like eating at some pinky up establishment in Charleston, rather it's down home, low country cooking. That generally means fried seafood is the main staple. The apps are simple but extremely satisfying, in a way that you know the treadmill will get a lot more attention in the next few days. First the hush puppies are the best I've had in decades. Slightly sweet, slightly gritty from the corn meal and fried to perfection. I honestly put down a whole basket by myself. The fried pickles, if that's your thing, are good. For me it was a bit of salt overload so buyer beware. Other notables are the gator bites which "tastes like chicken" but good, and the shrimp dip. The dip is pretty good and was a nice change from fried food. For dinner I got the fried shrimp. At first I thought it was a little pricy but the shrimp are big, not over fried, tasty and you get plenty of them. I really liked the side of red rice as it reminded me of traditional southern fair. The crab cakes were ok but a little too much breading. I like crap cakes to barely hold together, void of fillers like tons of bread. My sister got the fish taco's and enjoyed them however she's not as descriptive as me so I have nothing else to report!

Visited on a Sunday afternoon 45 minutes after opening but before the church crowd. We were seated immediately at a table overlooking the river. Drinks ordered and we viewed an extensive menu. Catfish Feast for $19.99 was a daily special, which I opted for, my girlfriend went with fish and chips. The catfish feast included 4 small bone-in catfish, nuggets, and catfish stew. Bone-in catfish was crispy but lacked much meat, the nuggets were excellent, as was the catfish stew. Included Cole slaw and cheese grits, no substitution with sides on the special. Cole slaw was ok, cheese grits were good. The fish and chips were excellent, good breading on the fish and not overcooked. Service was okay, waitress was attentive to our table and a manager, or other staff stopped by twice to ask how our meal was going. The view of the river makes this place, you can watch boats pass by, a fairly large alligator was hanging out south of the boat ramp across the river on this Sunday. Outside of the view, nothing really thrills me about this restaurant. The inside is outdated but meets the fish camp vibe, food is typically average. There are definitely better eating options but not with the accompanying view. Keeping that in mind should help your expectations visiting this location.

One of my favorite restaurants in the low country! They have the best hush puppies and popcorn shrimp, and the portions are huge. Service is great and everyone is nice. The she crab soup was nice and creamy. Casual location that wasn't too busy on a weekday night, but could get much busier on the weekends. Definitely check this place out if you're looking for good seafood and hushpuppies.

I was in town visiting family, and this restaurant was suggested. It was fairly empty, so we were seated quickly. Our waitress was really nice. You get hush puppies for free, and they had good flavor. They would have been excellent if there wasn't the taste of the cooking oil in every bite. I ordered the shrimp and grits. I figured it must be great because Gilligan's name was in front of it. It was not. It looked better than it tasted. The grits were not creamy. I could take a scoop out of them with a spoon and and the spoon hole would still be there. There was some cream sauce on there that I did not like. It almost reminded me of country sausage gravy, but without the sausage in it. The shrimp was good, and the sausage was okay. The sausage could have used a bit more cooking time. Overall, I wasn't impressed. I'm not pressed to come back

    Colorful and bright wall decor.

Bright and fun inside. The hush puppies were a tasty and pleasant surprise for lunch. The fried green tomato and crab cake sandwich were very tasty. Would definitely return.

When we arrived it had all the feel of a old Country Restaurant which made me feel excited about the kind of hands that we're going to cook that food. We were promptly sat and were provided great service the entire time at the restaurant. One of my big pet peeves is to have an empty drink cup and it never got half empty the entire time we were there cuz all the wait staff and even the manager made sure they never did. My issue is the only thing that made that salad anything like California Dreaming where the Almond slivers. This salad started out as a spring mix with very little iceberg lettuce or hearts. The dressing was more of a honey mustard poppy seed kind of dressing with no bacon and I was very much not impressed with their choice of ham and bag shredded cheese. I did see some of the other entrees brought to other tables like the fried chicken and hamburgers which looked absolutely amazing. The cake counter would make you miserable trying to eat one slice of the size cake they had but I would definitely take that challenge the next time I'm there. They were amazing looking cakes and pies. All in all I was not at all impressed with the salads we got and will never get them again but definitely will go back to try their other items because they looked amazing.

The place is always buzzing, and it's immediately obvious that many of the customers are regulars. There are no menus here. Instead, the waitress hands you a notepad and tells you to write down whatever you want. Not sure what to order? Wanda was happy to point us toward favorites like the blueberry pancakes and corned beef hash. The whole experience is refreshingly simple and surprisingly charming. Speaking of Wanda, she treated everyone like old friends stopping by for breakfast. Another employee wandered through the dining room chatting with customers and checking on folks like she had known them for years. Whether she actually knew everyone or just made it feel that way remains one of Howard's great mysteries. We ordered a mix of blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon, and biscuits and gravy. Everything was delicious, but the blueberry pancakes stole the show. The biscuits and gravy arrived on a plate that appeared to have surrendered completely to the gravy. If you leave hungry, that's probably a personal choice. One of the most entertaining parts of the experience is the honor system. Since you write down your own order, you'd better remember what you asked for when the food arrives and again when it's time to pay. No cheating. The open kitchen lets you watch the cooks at work, and the entire place feels like a gathering spot as much as a restaurant. The downside is that it gets crowded. You may have to wait for a table, and sharing a table with strangers isn't out of the question. If you're looking for white tablecloths, printed menus, and a polished dining experience, keep driving. If you're looking for good food, friendly people, local gossip, and a breakfast experience that feels like a community event, Howard's is exactly where you want to be. PS, bring cash because that's all they take. But there is an ATM in the building if you forget!

Moncks Corner has so many fast food restaurants but today I wanted to spend my money on a local establishment That's My Dawg. I walked in, weary from a long day running events to be greeted by a guitarist, backing tracks, and 6 whooping elderly patrons. They were enjoying themselves, a little tipsy, and loud. Fortunately I wasn't looking for peace and quiet, just a quick to go order of a chili dog, sausage dog, wings, and onion rings. I shuffled my way to the counter, carrying the weight of the day only to wait 5 minute before spoken to by one of the servers. My order was placed quickly and was assured it would be out "soon." I took my seat to listen to a good guitarist with better backing tracks fighting a losing battle with the impending headache forming at the back of my skull. At the 10 minute mark I considered ordering a drink to silence my inner voice of doubt telling me I should have just gone to Chick-fil-a but surely my food would be out "soon." At the 20 minute mark, the guitarist stopped his set to take a break as I watch other patrons receive their food and drinks after I had ordered. I could only assume extra time and attention was being used for me. Perhaps they needed to grind the sausage in the back before cooking and serving it for my order. Perhaps they had to pluck all those fresh chicken wings. Maybe they were harvesting the onion in real time to deliver it to me. My orders surely not just food, but a statement of art and love too beautiful for human consumption. My excited and eagerness grew until the 30 minute mark when a different server asked if I had been helped. Was my order lost? Had I been forgotten? Maybe they weren't freshly grinding my sausage dog after all! Everything seemed to be ok because after I said I had a to go order, she never returned to give me an update. I had considered resting my eyes, which became increasingly difficult after the guitarists mandatory rendition of "Sweet Caroline" at the 45 minute mark. That's when the angel from the kitchen appeared, bag in hand. My expectations: high My anticipation: at a fever pitch My hunger: endless My reason to give my wife for taking so long: formulating I smiled and took the bag eagerly to my car to drive the 5 minutes to my house to enjoy this meal clearly crafted with an artist's hand and a mother's heart. ...the first words my wife spoke regarding her hot dawg was "weird" My sausage dog was serviceable, the wings were serviceable, the onion rings were also....serviceable. As I sat on my couch ignoring survivor, trying to enjoy the food I waited an entire set to receive, and holding back a primal scream regarding my 6am call time; a single tear fell down my cheek in my sheer disappointment and defeat from this experience. Maybe I'll go back when I'm not coming from work, and have no where to be urgently, and there isn't entertainment, and can order food in my third Jack and Coke. I really do want to try one of the great hot dogs I've been hearing about.
