Twice in about six weeks, Gilton has forgotten to pick up my trash, which is impressive in the worst possible way since trash pickup is, allegedly, the whole business model. Their office has plenty of Trump signs and Jesus signs, so clearly they know how to get a message out. I just wish they put that same energy into getting the garbage out. If their service were as strong as their political and religious signage, my bins would be empty and I'd be writing a thank-you note instead of a Yelp review. The recycling and organics setup is also ridiculous. Recyclables seem to get treated like regular trash, and organics get mixed with dirt, including clean cardboard. It feels less like waste management and more like "just toss it somewhere and hope nobody asks questions." I've lived in many places over the decades, and Gilton is the worst trash company I've ever dealt with. They could do better. Maybe with a little help from Jesus, as their sign says. read more

Just call and make an appointment for a pickup and drag all your crap to the curb. When I resided in Lodi, both of the drivers were respectful me and the whole town. I don't know if the town of Lodi didn't allow them to litter; but the drivers had brooms to gather the fallen trash. I know it was Gilton and not another garbage company. All I know is, that I'm tired of my neighborhood having knocked over cans, and garbage in the street that didn't make it inside the truck! I've already directly reached out to Gilton personally on my review but everyone else should know. It's the little things that matter and deserve recognition.. our driver who normally shows up far before me and my newborn are ready to be awake...has been so quiet out in our parkinglot! I used to notice I could hear the trash doors swinging open and the huge metal trash can dragging across the asphalt.. would wake me up.. In Modesto, they are one of the waste management companies the city contracts with. They frequently miss recycle pickups. Then, when you call them they argue with you when you show them a picture of the can that is still full and not emptied.They say well the video shows it being emptied.No --the video showed my neighbors can being emptied.I am tired of dealing with Gilton and their rude reps, so I took it to the city manager. The city manager is in charge of hiring them and contracts with them. If they hear from enough people complaining about Gilton, then they are forced to reevaluate contracting with them. If too many complaints, then the city may consider taking bids from other garbage companies or giving the part of the contract that is filled, or I should say unfilled, by GIlton to another one of the companies the city contracts with.If the city is going to charge you for a service, then whoever they contract out to, needs to do their job.I refuse to pay for a service I am not receiving.If this continues, then I guess I have no choice but to just pack up all my recycling into a garbage bag and dump it at city hall and then give them an invoice for services rendered. read more

What a Expensive joke! They have a contract with the city of Modesto to do bulk pick up. 2 years ago my neighbor had a pick up that filled the street. It was all picked up. Now I had to use them. I had a good size load. But the drive refused to pick it up. He wanted me to separate all the wood. So I had to hire his Cousin to help me take it all to the dumps. This place charges you so much money it's crazy since they get money from the city, Residential and all the Recycling they do. If you call for bulk pick up. Be sure that the drivers are lazy and picky. They dont like to get there hands dirty. There over paid babys. I'm 60 years old and loaded all the crap. Then took it to the dumps with 1 other guy. The drivers have a truck that can pick it up very easily. There contact with the city needs to be canceled. I will attend all city meetings and make my voice heard. read more

Once again Gilton has failed as a waste management company. While we are still having issues with cars blocking the enclosure that we can not control, their new excuse for not picking up our waste is due to dirty or overfilled bins. When commenting about the homeless issue in our area, they recommended locks for our enclosure. We already had one for the side door, but they wanted to add 2 to the main large doors. We agreed hoping this would alleviate the issue. However Gilton drivers repeatedly DO NOT LOCK THE DOORS WHEN THE LEAVE! I have gone out moments after an attempted pick up to find the locks just hanging on the hooks. How are we supposed to stop people from accessing our area without them being locked like we were instructed? What excuse are they going to come up with next to defend their lazy drivers? read more

Our driver is a total a..hole. He does everything possible not to pick up our garbage. If there is a car within 30 feet he skips our cans. If the lid is not closed completely, again no pick up. We pay a lot of money to have garbage pickup that does not happen! We never had any issues before our current driver. I called Gilton to discuss with the manager of the driver but he never bothered returning my call. I hope the city does not renew their contract. This company is a joke! read more

Horrible services the driver in my block is incompetent. He decided to pick up everyone's trash and skips out house. Am very angry I have to call every week for them to come and pick up my trash. I pay a lot of money monthly for them missing my home and not picking up my trash. Wish I can give them zero stars. They suck and horrible customer service. The worst ever!!! We have a business and our garbage cans are in the alley behind the business. We have a lot of people go through the rubbish at night. This means that the cans are not always perfectly lined up for the driver to pick up. Which in turn means the driver will not get out and align the can to be dumped! Once, there were two older women who work for me standing next to the cans and the driver motions for them to move those big cans for him!! Disgusting service. Wish we had an alternative! read more

I watched the garbage truck skip my can YET AGAIN! So, i flagged them down and told them about it. They ignored my request and drove past my house again! I then called Gilton HR to let them know of the incident and that this wasnt the first time this had happened.. Only then, did the truck come back to do their job. I have 2 garbage and 1 recycle bin...they only picked up 1 garbage and left the 2 others full? That night i called to inform of left full garbage bins and left message..following day they sent out a driver, I was driving right behind him..to stop him so I could roll my dumpsters back out for his pick up...my God this prima dona' driver with earbuds on tells me I have to wheel out to the front (pick up always in alley). I told him, my bin are in my backyard to alley...he says I have to drive back around!?! Uuuh duh, that's we're my dumpsters are?!? Anyway, he took off and left my trash dumpsters full again...what shit service and a prima dona' driver of whom we pay garbage service fees too..he should be released, what an attitude...like I'm inconveniencing him! I've had trash in my name at my apartment for ions. Now that I've moved into a house, and city has all the water/garbage/sewer crap rolled into one I have to pay a deposit! Called in last week because some how my green recycled lid broke . No big rush for me as long as it got fixed . We signed up for service Monday March 24th, the garbage pick up day is on Tuesday so they dropped the can off on Tuesday right in front of our house. No problem with that but then a week later when it was supposed to be dumped they never dumped it. I called the next day to figure out what the issue was and was told sorry they must have forgotten because your new and that it would get dumped the next day. The next day still nothing so I called again and was then told that the driver wasn't sure that our drive way was safe and that a supervisor would have to approve. (It's a 20 foot paved road with 7 other houses) not very happy, going on 2 weeks without them dumping the garbage and no idea when they will. read more

We have been customers of Gilton for the last 18 years and are very pleased with the consistently good and reliable service that they give. My black trashcan has sat out in the heat of all those 18 Modesto summers and has now developed a crack in the bottom of it. I called Gilton and was pleased again when she happily agreed to replace our trashcan on the next pick up day. Excellent company! read more

I have had Gilton's trash service for years, in the last 3 months, I need to literally beg for my weekly trash pick-up. I call weekly, even though I pay my bill several months in advance. I call, office tells me they will send someone, but nobody arrives to dump the trash. Sometimes my can can sit by the road for up to 2 weeks. I've spoken to management, had a supervisor to my home, NO RESULTS. Guess it's time to file a complaint with the county!! read more

They are excellent. I really appreciate the engate program, which helps those like me who are disabled. My regular driver is always nice and helps out in little ways that make a big difference. The office personnel are great and always ready and able to fix any issues that may come up. Just one issue that when there is a relief driver for them to check the schedule to make sure that pick up engate customers trash. That is the only time when I have a small issue is when there is a relief driver and they forget to pick up my trash. This is a great company. Thank you for all your hard work. read more

Due to a death in my family I was tasked to dispose of all the personal effects of the departed member. It was a mostly collectibles, and other household items. First it was rather difficult speaking to someone mainly due to the extremely long hold time, and I guess their phone systems. When you actually get a human to talk to the volume is really low. I know it was their phone system because I troubleshooted the issue by calling the same number from a landline and another cell phone. Secondly to obtain information about dumpster specifications, was rather difficult to understand, especially if you never had to do something like this before. I normally would have used 1-800-Got Junk, but they didn't service my area. Nevertheless, after gathering all the required information to make a decision I paid the $250 deposit and scheduled to have the dumpster to be dropped off 28 March. That morning when they dropped of the dump my son and his friend filled the dump the same day. We called to inform the company that we were done and they can come pick up the dump. The female customer service representative said "great, someone will be there to pick it up shortly". I asked her if we get charged rental after we call for pick up. She reassured me that once the they receive the cal stating to pick up the dump, rental charges stop. The truck never came, so on 29 March I called again to find out the status of the driver picking up the dump. The representative stated that the driver will try and pick up the dumpster today. The driver still never came to pick up the dumpster until 30 March. A few days ago I received an invoice for $80.92, the invoice didn't state any information. When I called and after being on hold for approximately 12 minutes, I asked the representative to explain what the $80.92 charge was for. She explained that it was for the haul away fee, ton-age, and a 4 day rental with a 1 day rent credit. I explained the situation to the representative and she condescendingly asked "you want a credit for $0.85?". I told her yes, everyone in the household are SSDI recipients, so every cent counts. She then asked me to hold so that she can talk to a supervisor. A few moments later she returned and stated that we will only be charged for 2 day rental. I asked for the corrected invoice to be faxed. When I received the faxed invoice the only "correction" was a $0.85 "credit". I really don't think its right that I was even charged 2 day rental, especially since I was done with the dumpster the same day. Their invoices are a joke, very unprofessional, I will not be recommending their services to anyone, maybe they are better for commercial jobs. read more
