Alright, next up on my semi-overwhelming remaining list of cool places I went to when I was in…read morePortugal a couple months ago - one of three distinct, very similar spots to try locally made craft ginja, so obviously I made a crawl of it and tried all three in a row, the first day I got to Lisbon. All three are, similarly, very tiny bars, basically just alcoves, no seating, large enough to fit a couple people standing inside if it's raining, which it was. But given all they sell are little shots - well, I guess this one also sells espresso, which is cool - I didn't have one, just the ginja.
Of the three, this was the only one that asked if I wanted it in a chocolate shotglass instead of having to ask them for one - *obviously* I want it in a chocolate shotglass, duh. That's half the point? So good for them on that. The chocolate cup was obviously great, given I assume everyone in Lisbon that sells ginja in chocolate shotglasses, probably gets their chocolate shotglasses from the same source anyway. And I don't think anything would be *bad* served in an edible chocolate shotglass - but of the three (and a couple others I tried elsewhere in Portugal that trip), this was definitely the least impressive ginja I tried. It wasn't *bad*, but it tasted the most like just a young spirit with some sugar added, and the least like it had been aged in cherries for a long time, of all of them, by a good margin. Still, everyone's palate is different, the other two are like 2 minutes, and a shot of ginja is cheap at all three, so definitely just go try all three. This is the one I'd be the least likely to go back to, though, at least for ginja.
