I say, bring it on, the more selection we have as a passerby through the airport, the better. If you came to Rome as a tourist, like many others before or after you, it's unlikely you've had that much time on your hands for shopping during your visit. The city is so picked up with history, I'd be amazed if one goes shopping instead of the sightseeing, right? So now's your chance to bring home a few gifts for friends and family. Go for it!

But the real action is just one street away on Via dell'Indipendenza. A lovely, charming narrow street full of colors, shops and stores,a bunch of tourists and many locals. Here you will find a glimpse of the "real" Italy. Independent shop owners offering fresh fruit and veggies, meat, home-made sausages, local wine (and some even straight from the steel tank). Small fashion stores, some arts&crafts. But nothing here feels touristy. It's real stores...real people. We liked the fruit and veggies from "Al Solito Posto" and the wine and meat from "Macelleria Del Corso". A fantastic little street, the Highlight of Gaeta and surely not to be missed!
