Just moved to town and tried opening a new account. Deposited a $30K cashiers check from Chase bank…read moreand was told "policy" didn't allow them to give me ANY money drawn from that check immediately as there was a 24hr waiting period. ( I just needed a few hundred buck for groceries and toilet paper) A little B.S. but Fine. Came back the next day and was told management had put a 9 BUSINESS DAY (12 total days) hold on the check. I was told I couldn't get a cent nor could I get a cashiers check to change banks. Just moved to town, no food in the fridge and many items to purchase locally with cash but this "Hometown" bank couldn't be bothered to make a human decision and allow me to get some cash (DRAWN FROM A CASHIERS CHECK FROM A MAJOR BANK) because of "Policy" ,even though their employee told me 24hr when I agreed to deposit the check (which I would not have done if there was a 9 day hold). Management was no help as I was told that cashiers checks can be forged...REALLY, so now I'm suspected of trying to commit a felony and pass a bad $30K check? I suggested they speak with the title company down the street that just accepted a $300K cashiers check and gave me a title for a house, but again, they couldn't be bothered. In this day and age, 9 days for a cashiers check to clear is beyond ridiculous and this "hometown bank" is actually owned by Glacier Bank Corp...another illusion of choice, you may as well bank and their so-called "competition" a block away, but don't that either because they suck just as bad). The manager's only excuse was that I had signed the papers and it didn't matter that their employee screwed up in saying the funds would be available in 24hrs. Nice work First Montana, I will forever be telling this story and suggesting that NO ONE bank with you or Glacier Bank Corp EVER. This was an exhausting, frustrating, and very disappointing encounter with 1st Montana bank and I will be changing to a credit union as soon as these liars give me my money back. ZERO STARS for this P.O.S. bank.

What about the majority of us who love this bank? Great little bank with very helpful tellers, free checking with .05% interest, Free ATM, free checks and locations all over the northwest. Note that Glacier Bank in Kalispell, MT and in other places is part of the same banking group. They offer CD savings accounts with a 6-month lockup that will gain some decent income. Hope more people who love this bank will take the time to review it on Yelp.

I do notice Libby has a bit of a higher turn over rate for employees than I would like. The buildings are always clean. I will say I am less than thrilled with the parking situation in Libby. Small local credit union. I don't bank here but my best friend does and she loves them. I had to…read morerun over here during an event at the park to get change and the tellers didn't seem to mind at all. Local friendliness and a great foyer with big local handmade quilts hanging up. There were at least 2 tellers open inside and a bowl of candy for the customers. They also have a drive thru teller that makes it handy for those quick banking transactions.
