Everything here feels thoughtfully curated, from the decor to the food presentation. Every dish we tried was delicious, and I'd highly recommend starting with the mushroom appetisers. The shrimp Pad Thai was another standout. Service was outstanding--warm, friendly, and attentive. You can tell the food is made by people who are from Thailand. There is a beautiful little outdoor patio that's perfect for relaxing, and there's plenty of free parking, which is always a plus. The service was excellent. The food was good, but I guess when you are from the Bay Area, you get spoiled by endless choices of Thai food which leaves this place feeling mediocre. I will mention that the Khao Soi was a standout dish. I would skip the salty crab papaya salad. It was ok but lacked punch from other places. Plus we're baffled at this black salted crab that looked like a mini scorpion. Parking lot is small. The place is also small. I'd recommend going on off meal times for seating. Note- after I ate here, I felt sick. Not sure if it was from my lactose intolerance so please check with your server for ingredients in dishes. Glai Baan has long been on my list of places to try so I'm glad it finally happened. We arrived around 4:30 and it wasn't busy yet, we had reservations since we weren't sure if we needed them. However over the course of our time there it got pretty packed and there was a wait. The restaurant itself is small, has a cute bar area, and a nice patio area. Service was great and we were given some lovely recommendations on the menu. I loved the cocktails. Can't remember the names but I had the blanco tequila drink served in a unique cup, the lychee cocktail was really nice, and the third drink ordered was the Thai beer. All good. From start to finish everything was flavorful, fresh, and absolutely delicious!! Please see photos for what was ordered. This is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to. The food was delicious. The dipping sauce with the dumplings was amazing. The panang curry was flavorful and had just the right amount of spice. The pad kee mao was great too. The staff were friendly and the interior was nice. The red lights in the interior did make us think that the pork dumplings were undercooked but after looking under white light, we knew they were cooked properly. The food was delicious! You absolutely have to get the pandas custard for desert. Me and my friend got the vegan rice cakes, pork dumplings, panang curry, pad thai, and custard. Our favorite was definitely the custard and pad thai. The curry was amazing but I don't like fatty meat and I got a few bites of fat. Eater recommended this place and the mackerel fried rice, so I went for the mackerel fried rice. It was still busy at nearly 8pm on a Tuesday, but they were able to seat me at the bar (the upside to being a solo diner). I asked the bartender for a cocktail recommendation that wasn't too sweet and he recommended the Laab Sided. I wouldn't have picked it otherwise, because the idea of a cocktail with fish sauce seemed odd. But he described it as a cross between a mojito and a daiquiri and assured me that the fish sauce wasn't overpowering, so I trusted him. And I'm glad I did, because it was so good! The mackerel fried rice lived up to every expectation that I had. It was incredible and unique (it's so rare that a Thai restaurant will offer a seafood option other than shrimp). The person sitting next to me at the bar said that if you have a long wait for your table, you can go to the bottle shop next door (Rewind) and they'll call you when your table is ready. I can't vouch for Rewind, but I can at least share that tip. Parking in their lot is a challenge, but you can check the neighborhood streets for street parking. (Someone in the lot shared that tip with me, and I was able to find street parking that was only a two min walk away.) read more

I absolutely love this place!!!!! I have been many times but finally decided to write a review!! This is my favorite Thai restaurant! The staff is super nice and knowledgeable. The food is amazing!! The down side to this place is PARKING!! It's terrible! I normally park in the neighborhood behind it and walk. The restaurant is small but has an outdoor seating as well. It's best to make a reservation you can only do by talking to someone on the phone. Old school but I love it. I suggest going for lunch because it's less crowded and no reservation needed. Let's talk about the food. I ALWAYS get the Penang curry. It's soooo tender. A lot of the food comes as it is so no picking protein or spice levels, but is honestly perfect just the way they make it. This comes with beef and it's truly perfect! I always try another dish that I haven't tried before like whatever special they have for that day. You truly can't go wrong! Also another go to every time is milk bread with coconut cream Omg so simple so soooooo good!! The fried oyster mushrooms are very good. Also, the lard salad. This place was found and recommended by my 15 year old daughter. We decided to try it out and let me just say, best decision ever! My family and I love Asian cuisine. Service: was superb, nothing short of amazing. We didn't know that reservations were recommended especially that seating is limited. I see why people show up as soon as the doors open as we opted to do also. Their hours are from 4pm to 9:30pm on a Saturday like today and when I tell you we drove into an almost full parking lot at 4:10, that should have been an indication what was nestled behind these covered in greenery doors. They informed us upon arrival of the current wait for 1 hour plus. You think why an hour? Well think no more, I can tell you why. This place feels so welcoming, it's almost like you're in someone's out door patio or cabin with enough lighting to see and enjoy your food. I love intimate places like such. They do not rush you either which is why I feel they warn people the hour wait. They have great music playing in the background only loud enough so you could hear and interact with the people in your immediate party or table. Food: oh my gawd.... Phenomenal! It was all so so very tasty, every dish was rich in flavor. The chicken wings were so crispy and the dipping sauce had a tang and spice very expected with Thai cuisine. All three meals were so delicious. Now the dessert was a treat alright, who ever would have thought that dipping a bread into a custard sauce would be this good. I wanted more! I am writing this review as I am eating Thai takeout from another restaurant because I am getting flash backs of the experience I had here. Went to the restaurant with a few friends a while back due to it's raving reviews and beautiful decor but was immensely disappointed in the outcome. Admittedly, interior design is beautiful and there many cultural pieces that shine. However, after having a meal here, I am so confused how this place got such high ratings? I will put a disclaimer though: my review is quite critical due to the discrepancy between expectations and reality. First off, Thai food is family style and the menu also said dishes are family style. However, they served tiny portions similar to that of tapas. We found ourselves rationing up morcels of food. Pad Kee Mao was not well mixed, some portions were bland while others too spicy. The payaya salad was a piece 1/4 cabbage served on a plate with some strands of papaya and tomatoes. I don't think traditional payaya salad is even supposed to have cabbage. While I don't mind since it cuts the spiciness, I don't want it to make up half the salad, because papaya is the main part. We also ordered some non-memorable tiny skewers that I can't recall too much about. It definitely felt more trendy and upscale rather than traditional and authentic. I usually take pics of my food but did not take a single photo here because I was not impressed. Lighting was also not great for photos. My friends and I were all disastissfied and hungry at the end--even considering going to get McDonald's after. read more

YALL when I tell you this is easily the BEST Thai restaurant in Phoenix! Glai Baan definitely lives up to its hype. 1) We ordered the panang curry, pad thai, salted crab papaya salad, grub ma cocktail, and thai tea. Life changing. The panang curry was the star of the show--the beef was soooo tender and the flavor was better than any other panang I've ever had. The pad thai was a larger serving, also delicious and just the right amount of tangy and sweet. The salted crab papaya salad was refreshing, sweet & salty (for any fellow Filipinos it was similar to eating green mango and bagoong). And all the cocktails had Asian inspired flavors, mine was a pandan & butterfly pea drink. Two entrees and an appetizer were just the right amount of food for 2 people, especially with the larger pad thai. It also wasn't terribly expensive considering the quality of the food, about $12-15 for an appetizer and $18-20 per entree, I need to go back and try more! 2) Reservations are an absolute must or else you WILL wait up to 2 hours for a table during dinner rush. Their answering service will tell you how far out they are booking, usually 2-3 weeks. You just need to leave your name/party info and someone will call you back the next day to find a date that works. The place is somewhat small and it gets very busy. Nice thing is you can order drinks from the bar while you are waiting to be seated. They offer bar, indoor, and outdoor seating. If the weather is nice, I would definitely recommend sitting outside in their cute little patio. Parking is also limited, but neighborhood street parking is available behind the restaurant just a quick walk away. The service was great and servers are super nice! read more

Very cool building, the vibes were cozy. The table of 4 I was with had an assortment of many drinks, they were all very tasty, but honestly my favorite drink was the Thai tea. I'm a sucker for a sweet drink. I ended up getting two of them. We also tried quite a few appetizers, the dumplings, skewers, and Thai papaya salad. All three were good, but the skewers were extra tasty. We also ordered 3 entrees and shared. The Padthai, the Penang Cury, and the Kapro gai kai dao. As a huge Thai food lover, I had to try this place out. I got there around 6pm on a Tuesday, and there was over an hour wait. But the smells wafting through the air as well as the yummy looking dishes being served to the restaurant patrons made my mouth water so much I had no choice but to wait. We actually waited at the cute wine bar, Rewind, and they walkie-talkie the bartender there to let you know your table is ready, so it was super convenient. We also definitely waited less than an hour too, so that was exciting. Onto the food! We started with the Yum woon sen. For our entrees, we got the Kao soi and the Kapro gai kai dao. The Yum woon sen was so light, fragrant, and herby. It was a great way to start the meal. I am a huge Kao soi fan and this one did not disappoint. The curry was thick and flavorful with a little bit of heat. The noodles and chicken were cooked to perfection. It is hard for me to find a Kao soi I like and this was definitely one of my favorites. The Kapro gai kai dao was a suggestion from the waitress to really balance the noodle and rice dishes, but she also said it was a staff favorite. I totally understand the reason why-- it was so delicious. I have never had anything like this and I'm sad it took me so long in life to have something like this. The chicken had this flavoring/ marinade that was light, sweet, and flavorful. I loved the addition of a fried egg on top too to make things creamier. Just wow. Overall, this meal was so worth the hype and wait. All of the dishes had incredible and unique flavor profiles-- we were seriously licking all of the plates. Holy moly, BEST THAI FOOD I'VE EVER HAD! (and I've been around Thailand so this says a lot to me atleast). This place is small and intimate but it's so cute and quaint. I've always had luck with parking here, even during incredibly busy dinner times. The waitstaff have always been nice, welcoming, and accomodating. The back patio is adorably decorated, making it perfect for a nice dinner date or an evening with friends or family. Their specials are always great, but they change regularly so if you fall in love with one, it might not be on the menu next time :( The drinks are strong and tasty. I've ordered "Sunshowers" and "Roselle". Both are great, but as someone who prefers sweeter drinks, I favored Sunshowers. For non-alcoholic options, the thai tea is good! not too sweet but delicious. As for food, dear lord, again the best thai food i've ever had. Even common dishes I've tried elsewhere just hits different here. I highly recommend the Panang curry and the Kaproa gai kai dao, and dishes from their specials even they are not on the menu (Seafood Tom Yum and Bamee Hang). I'm from LA but I would definitely drive 5+ hours for this restuarant. They need to open a location in LA!
