This was my first time visiting this pottery studio, and while we still had a fun time, the experience was a little disappointing. It was more expensive than I expected, and they were out of quite a few paint colors. When we arrived, we were told someone would come help us get started, but no one ever came back. We sat at our table for about 10 minutes waiting, and no one checked on us, so we eventually just got started ourselves. Thankfully, we were with people who had been there before and could answer our questions. I think a little more attention to first-time customers and better customer service would have made the experience much better, especially for the price. read more

Had a wonderful time painting my mug. Staff was nice. Great glaze colors. I was ready to have my birthday party here because it was so enchanting. Sadly, after i picked up my mug and took it home to have a cup of tea, it cracked when the hot (not even boiling) water was added. When I called and explained what it happened the person at the store just said that that "sometimes happens with pottery" and "the only way I could've avoided this was to get the stoneware glaze". They did not offer to have me come back in and redo a new mug. None of this was explained to me when I was choosing the glazed selections for my mug or when I picked up the mug. I knew one of the glaze that I picked was not food safe, but I was careful to put it on the outside. When I picked up the mug after firing, there was no paper insert with care instructions. So I guess I'll be going to a different pottery place to replace the mug at my own expense and asking more questions like "can I put tea in this tea cup?" next time. One star for spending $32 plus tax on a mug that broke before I could enjoy it and that no longer holds liquid. Buyer beware. read more

They have such a huger selection than Stuffington's, they offer so much more and it feels more organized! I love how we were treated and how the tables are organized with the paint. A little surprised that Halloween decor wasn't on sale but their Christmas items were in stock and cute! The shop was an absolute madhouse from open at 11am until about 1:15pm and then things calmed down until we left at 2pm on a November Saturday, but staff were kind. I was really impressed that they asked our group of two if we would allow another two folks to join us at our table, and we checked out, they thank us again for being so accommodating. Prices were about typical for Seattle, mugs were between $25 and $40 and plates ranged from $35 to $75 depending on how big and how ornate they were. read more

The short version: This place has a lot of fun things to paint, and normally it turns out really beautiful. They give you some good basic instructions and ideas, and they have glass work available which is rare to find and fun. My kid did a glass piece this last time and it turned out just like she envisioned. My most recent creation did not, and their service recovery when things turn out badly is poor. I'd give a solid 4 for previous good experiences, but it doesn't make up for the missed opportunity on our most recent (and probably last) experience. The long version I've come here with my kid (girl, age 12) and my wife several times and created some really beautiful things that turned out well. But, this last time was a little sour and will probably be the last time. They called today to let us know our pieces were ready and let me know that mine (a ceramic plate on which I did some pour painting and lettering) was "not food safe" due to a fault in the glazing. Ok, I thought, should still be nice to look at and I was planning to display it, not eat off of it. We picked them up and I had a look; "not food safe" was code for "the glaze puckered and pulled and left some very noticeable chunks of bare unpainted bisque visible, and it really isn't suitable for display either." Bless her heart, the attendant really tried to salvage the situation, but basically had nothing to offer; she let me know I could paint over those parts right then and they could try to re-fire it, though the same thing could (and likely would) happen again. I didn't have time to stay, so she offered to sell me an at-home kit and then have me bring it back. The big concession she got from the manager was the offer to let me take it home and then bring it back another day to try to repair it. I didn't have time to talk about it anymore so I took it and left. No offer of refund or even store credit was even floated. I got home and read the letter from the manager letting me know that my paint was too thick and that was the reason the glaze didn't work. Ok, great, but I did let the attendant know as we left that the paint was really thick and not dry yet; she told me it wouldn't be a problem. It's also kind of poor form to blame your customer for process errors when I don't glaze and fire pottery for a living and you do. Look, I wouldn't even take the time to write this if I had they had been completely honest up front ("not food safe" does not adequately describe what happened) and had offered something of value to make it right (making something to remember some time with my kid was the whole point of this; "we'll let you come back later and pay to fix your mistake" doesn't really cut it). I bring this up because another pottery painting outfit we've frequented noticed a very minor flaw in a piece I did, immediately told me exactly what happened, and offered me the piece I did (which was still usable and attractive) and the full value of it as credit on another one. I know the economy is tight, but it can be done. I may come back and do glass pieces again, but there are other places that do ceramic and service recovery better. I invite a response to this review if they feel like I haven't characterized this fairly or accurately. read more

We did a bachelorette party here and it was amazing they let us do the food inside as long as it didn't touch any of the pottery the people working there were super experienced and willing to help you with your pottery if you need help! Great selection of ceramics to paint. I like how the tables are set up with paint, palette and water - ready to go. We had reservations of course but it was nice to sit down with your ceramics and just get going. I was disappointed that they were completely out of dark blue (navy). I really wanted that color for my pot. They also offer glass fusion art. Initially, that is what I wanted to do (instead of painting pottery) but our party of 3 was told that there is only 1 table for that and it was already taken. Bummer. Painting pottery is always so fun. My husband and I saw that our local Glazed and Amazed store allowed for customers to take home pottery and paints to create an art project, and we wanted to support local businesses during this time so we decided to give it a try. But we had such a poor experience that I wouldn't recommend doing the paint from home from this store. We paid over $130 for our pieces, with $6 paint brushes, and extra paint. Each person is only allowed 5 paint colors each (no matter the number of pieces you buy). And extra paint is $1 per color. But we were not verbally told that they expect to have all of their paints RETURNED to them, even if you pay to have extra colors or it's a $15 charge! We found this little piece of information printed on the instructions once we got home. We tried to do a fun little activity that supported a local business and unfortunately we had a poor experience between how expensive they make the project and how rude the staff is, I don't recommend doing the paint from home experience at Glazed and Amazed. read more

We brought a special wine bottle here to be slumped that had a lot of sentimental value for our entire family. It was meant to be a keep sake and it slipped off the kiln and broke. Well. I have painted pottery here over the years since I was a kid. I recently expressed to my boyfriend my desire to go back and paint some pottery. On their website they advertised to-go kits and it seemed like a great date night idea! I called on a Sunday about 2 months ago, not realizing it was 1 hour before close. My thought process was that since we weren't going to be staying to paint, I didn't think my call would aggravate whoever was working front desk. I was wrong. I innocently asked about their to-go kits and acknowledged they closed in 1 hour and asked if it would help them if I came in to pick out 2 mugs? We already had our paint colors selected. I might be completely underestimating the time it takes to assemble paint & mugs but 1 hour seemed like plenty of time. Well. The response was obviously no and got more irritated when I said I lived 5 minutes away and could be there within that time. She was so rude that I made it a point to forget it and never come back. Well not to long ago I found out my boyfriend secretly called them in hopes of surprising me with to-go pottery and told me his experience was just as bad. He admitted he didn't know anything about pottery and they talked to him exactly like that. He felt so uncomfortable and stupid that he didn't even tell me & dropped the idea all together. I feel so bad. Sad. They used to be so nice!! Im sure it's the same person causing these negative reviews so all I have to say is be better, be nicer. I spent $175 tonight there for my daughter's birthday and was treated horribly. I was told I could not rent the party room because I didn't have enough kids to rent the space. I told them I would pay the full price and let my kids paint an extra piece of pottery and was told no. The girl at the front desk said we could come in and sit at a table to paint. I asked if we could bring cupcakes to eat while painting, and was told yes. After we paid, a woman confronted us and started yelling at us for not booking the party room. She was yelling at us in front of all of the kids, my family, friends and other people in the store. I tried to explain the situation, she wasn't having it, and told us if we did this again we would not be welcome back. We have been here before, but will never go back and neither will anyone we know. read more

I have been to this place a few time but the most recent was the best. myself, my niece and sister came on a Friday afternoon/evening (5 pm) and had a wonderful time painting. My sister who was here from out of town and was leaving Monday morning. I was going to ship her item to her when it was done, but when the employee heard she was leaving Monday, she put a rush on getting it done. It was ready at 1 pm Sunday! now that's what I call fast. I thought they would only have her's done but they were all done. This place have great ceramics and good prices and very nice employees. We came with our young grandson and great grandma . The staff was very helpful and I honestly wasn't sure what to expect due to some of the reviews here. We were able to use as many colors as we wanted,as well as paint brushes and all other painting medium materials. We were also told to leave everything on the table when done. Alot different than the review of a year ago, so looks like they made changes for the better! We were checked on several times by staff and they were super helpful. She saw I had gotten a stamp to try but when I used it on test paper it was very blobbish and I wasnt going to use it. She offered to show me how, and got a sponge, and dabbed it twice between paint , then use the sponge to put paint on the stamp! Voilà! Perfect flower stamp on the piece. Super happy and will come back I'm sure!! Also it said 5-7 days for firing, but they left me a message on day 3 the pieces were ready! read more

I came here to make a Birthday present. It was Saturday afternoon the place was pretty much empty, with the exception of two employees, myself and my son, and two high school kids. Staff was helpful, but not super friendly. They seemed more interested in flirting with the young men making a cup. Prices are on the high side, but each table comes with its own share of paint and bushes so that's nice. They also have a large selection of items you can make. read more

If you're going to paint one of the large Christmas trees, make sure you put more coats on than anyone tells you to do. Mine looks like a child painted it and I'm pretty disappointed. Lots of fun projects. Like to take my girlfriend here for date days and anniversaries. The staff is very nice and helpful. They are always around to give you advice if you need any but they also understand your need to be creative and taking your time. I think we spend about 3 hours here every time. They never rushed us and only stopped by our table when we looked very confused or if we had a question so they gave us ample of space for us to take our time and paint. They also have lots of random good deals and fun events on their facebook page/web site. I'd highly recommend this place for people who want a semi cute, cheap and fun date. The prices vary. I've never been very crafty or artistic, but I've recently taken a liking to ceramic painting. As long as I don't have to do anything super fancy, I can actually make something pretty and have fun doing it. Right in the middle of adorable downtown Edmonds, Glazed & Amazed is the perfect place to come for some ceramic painting. Everything you need is provided, from paints and brushes to stencils, and there are tons of options to paint. I ended up painting a giant coffee mug and sticking a teeny-tiny giraffe in the inside. Yes, weird - but it turned out super cute. One of my favorite things about this place is that they don't make you clean up after yourself. I know, I'm lazy, but it's nice to finish up and pay rather than worrying about sufficiently cleaning the brushes and making sure everything's in its right place. I came on "Ladies' Night" which was sort of underwhelming. While I like the idea - a girls' night out with drinks and snacks - paying for not just your ceramic painting but also cans of soda or a bowl of pretzels was kind of, well, not worth it. Luckily, they don't make you participate so we were free to paint to our hearts' content without snacking. There's also the option of working with glass - we didn't do this, but it would be an interesting thing to try someday. I'll definitely come back next time I want to get crafty. read more

I took my niece and nephew here to go paint something for their mother for mother's day. We had a good time. We shared a table with others and got really creative while spending quality time together. The girls working were very energetic and helpful. The service was excellent. They greeted every guest coming through the door, gave good instructions and checked in with each table to see how everyone was doing. The weekends are quite crowded with parties, but the noise level was not too bad. They sell little snacks at their snack table but it looks like they allow party food for birthdays and such. read more

Glazed and Amazed is a wonderful slice of heaven, I should know, I've been a customer for over 5 years. I found the shop when I was walking around Edmonds one day, and now I'm a regular. They have a great selection of pottery to choose from and a stockpile of idea books, templates, stamps, stencils . . you name it. Plus, the staff are always ready to help in any way. The store is a great place to just relax, get into the groove of painting, and let your mind wander. The prices are really reasonable and include all the supplies and kiln-firing. If you don't finish your project in one sitting - you can take it home with you and bring it back anytime to finish, for FREE!. In response to the review about the birthday party, I've been in the store when parties are going on and I've seen groups of kids enjoying the painting, laughing, having fun and behaving themselves. I've also seen parties where the parents let their kids run (literally, RUN) around the shop - disturbing other patrons and creating chaos. This is a small shop where everything is breakable. I don't think it is too much to ask that children respect the limitations while in the store and save the rough-housing for the park. I highly recommend this shop and anyone looking for a few hours to relax, let your artistic juices flow and end up with a great memories - this is the place. My daughter and I like Glazed and Amazed, but it's rather expensive so it's a rare treat. By expensive, I mean that it costs about $20 to make a large coffee mug--about the price of 2 movie tickets and snacks for an afternoon's entertainment (for 2 mugs, that is). However, you get lots of paint colors and brushes, and it's like reliving your childhood--you get to make a mess and the staff cleans up! So with that said, I guess it's not too bad. We went on a Sunday and it was fairly busy, a few families with kids and a birthday party going on in the back. The staff were helpful and friendly, but there were no cute boys around for them to flirt with (See Sean M's review). We'll be back--it's fun, you get to spend and hour or so doing something creative, and you get to keep what you make! (it's ready in about 5 days). Plus, they now have this fused-glass station where you can make gorgeous glass items. (not sure how it works or how much it costs). read more
