This time, same guy was less drunk, admitted he was not an owner, and seemed to have no memory of ordering the IPA for me. He told me this time he didn't have the authority to order specialty purchases. He really should've just been honest the first time, but again, he was glassy-eyed and 3 sheets to the wind. Moore Brothers Wine was just near when I had just enjoyed an early dinner, so I drove over. They have a large parking lot, so I parked and wandered in. I didn't realize what a special wine shop I was walking into! Moore Brothers is a family-owned wine shop specializing in small-production wines and they've been open since 1996. They have three locations - this one in Wilmington and two others in Pennsauken, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, New York. The shop is organized by wine region, which was helpful. The customer service could not have been better. I was welcomed to the shop and offered help by no fewer than two staff members. When I brought the wine I'd selected to the checkout area, they asked if I wanted them to print the tasting note for the wine I'd selected, which was wonderful. I took it with me and read it when I opened the bottle that evening at my airbnb. Moore Brothers Wine is incredible and special. It's not the largest bottle shop but the wines on their shelves are specially selected and are wines they care about, made by winemakers they know and respect. It's just a different way of shopping for wine. So it's a great shop. I'd love to return when I'm next in Wilmington!

So when I first saw the sign for Wallace Dry Goods pop-up in the neighborhood, my interest was immediately piqued. And since then I've enjoyed a few visits including for an awesome Yelp event. For my first visit way back when Wallace pulled out all the stops for the Yelp squad walking us through delicious mocktails, n/a beers, and hosting an informative Q&A that gave a great preview of who they were and what they were about. That followed suit for the second time when I signed up for a curated N/A Beer testing that really opened my eyes to how far N/A beer has evolved when I was enjoying seasonal pumpkin beers, coffee stouts, and then some. All of this comes from someone who still enjoyed going out after quitting drinking, but definitely felt the pressures and wanted to do what they could to make N/A spirits more accessible. And as the place that distributes a number of N/A offerings to several bars & restaurants across the local area, they're definitely achieving that! Going inside gives you full access to that knowledge and the ability to pick up n/a beers, ciders, wines, spirits (including a line from Danny "Machete" Trejo!), and everything you need to up your drink making craft. While they're a retail space, they might have something on hand for you to sample, and you definitely want to check out their website to sign-up for any tasting events they have scheduled.

Odd things are cheap, and others are not. Freddy's is preferable when looking for wine or an array of beer. For the hard stuff, Froggie's is usually fine. There is no charm to Froggie's, if you look for that sort of thing. The cashiers are shady guys, and most of the customers tend to be even shadier. This is the place out of which old, white haired alckies seep. Pairs of darting eyes and laconic stares wait in beat up cars in the parking lot. They do not carry 18 packs of High Life, rarely 12 packs. My roommate remembers this distinctly.
