Jessica the coordinator on the pavilion is an extra ordinarily talented girl. After a few hours I roved around to document different sections of the show. There was plenty to see and look at. It was very interesting to see Walter the Whip who makes a dazzling show twirling his whip on fire.

This is my favorite botanic garden and bird world in Australia. I mean, it's the only one I went…read moreto, but still. Amazing! The views from the top of the mountain are epic. The Glass House mountains in the distance on a clear day are worth the trip in itself. The gardens are nice, but because of the time of year, weren't in full bloom. However, the bird world was the icing on the cake. So many birds of all shapes and sizes. Many of them are friendly and will land on your arms, shoulders, head, feet, or anywhere else that they can perch in hopes of a snack or good conversation. If you're afraid of birds, don't come here. Would highly recommend this to anyone in the area who wants to see the garden and birds, or just a great view with some snacks from the gift shop.

Rocked up in 40 degree heat on New Years Day and, bizarrely enough, found this place open…read more Seriously, WTF? There were about 5 old blokes milling about an old sugarcane train with two passenger cars and a vintage diesel engine, and a woman selling tickets. All were dressed in full (and appropriately vintage) Queensland Rail attire and apparently just waiting for someone (us) to show up. We bought a couple of paper tickets ($6 each) and had them punched by the conductor for the 850m (5-10 minutes), on-demand journey down the rickety old tracks to the end of the line. Apparently there is a cafe at the end of the line but it being NYD, and the cafe folk apparently being less dedicated than the railwaymen, it was closed, so the train simply stopped and turned around. We had a small picnic on the ride and then spent some time chatting about the old diesel and the history of the line with the friendly staff. They also have a steam train but it is currently out of commission pending some additional volunteers. The dream is to build another 3km of track to the next town, but who knows how many decades that will take! Worth a visit if you love trains or curious relics of times gone by.

I have been…read moreattending woodford on and off since the mid-90's and have something of a love/hate relationship with it. It is certainly a lot more "corporate" than it once was and I do find the naming the place "Woodfordia" quite naff; but we had a great time at Woodford; some venues were overcrowded but we were able to find respite from the crowds in venues like "Bill's Bar"... There are a million places to eat (we tried some really nice Thai food as well as some other goodies). The good: really handy parking (close to the front gate) and really quick entry (read as NO QUEUE). The variety of acts is huge and you would be hard pressed not to find something you really like. The volunteers are all great and make this place work and these days the punters seem happier and less rude than they were a few years back. That said; my partner and I are looking at staying for the week next year; so I guess we had a good time! :-)
