It seems like they have a great office culture that translates into professionalism and great care for us patients. I never had to worry about getting stuff through insurance -- they always followed through for me. Bring a book to appointments, because you might have to wait. Have patience. Dr. Egrie stepped in to repair the damage Dr.Daniels did in August 2024. Daniels punctured my right ventricle and I bled out and died on the operating room table. I experienced cardiac and respiratory arrest while Daniels attempted to do a trans catheter valve repair. Dr. Egrie's technical surgical skill and compassion and warmth were much appreciated.He patched the hole in my heart and repaired the tricuspid valve. I did not want open heart surgery, especially a chaotic emergent procedure. After a year and a half I have not recovered and the quality of my life has plummeted. I have had to reduce activities by 75% and continue to have severe rib pain, a paralyzed diaphragm and labored breathing. Another patient had the misfortune of being Dr. Daniel's patient eight months later and his right ventricle was also lacerated and he died. I am in touch with that patient's daughter who is grief stricken. What is Sutter going to do to hold Daniels accountable and investigate his dangerous techniques? Went to him for my leaky mitral valve. He spent lots of time in our initial consult to explain my condition, what my options were, and what he recommended. I had two second opinions that confirmed his recommendation. The surgery was successful and he prepared me well for what to expect, followed up frequently while I was in the hospital, and got me discharged as soon as possible. Considering this was major surgery, he and his staff are encouraging and optimistic, yet realistic. I recommend them highly. read more

This past Wednesday, September 25th, 2019, my Dad was scheduled for a heart valve replacement with Dr. Egrie a CPMC Van Ness Campus. I cannot even begin to tell you just how blessed we are to have been able to be graced by Dr. Egrie's craft that is Cadiothoracic Surgery. Needless to say, heart valve replacement surgery was a priority procedure that could not wait any longer. My family and I are extremely close, so it did not come easy for us to accept when it came time to start planning for him to get his procedure done. We really wanted to make sure that we were choosing the very BEST in the profession. Needless to say, my Dad was referred to Dr. Egrie from his Cardiologist Dr. Levy. It only took one appointment for my parents to know that Dr. Egrie was the one they would feel the most confident in to perform such a heavy procedure. But immediately after his consultation, my parents told me that they had 100% full confidence that Dr. Egrie knows his stuff. I of course, was skeptical. How could they feel 100% confident that he was the right man for the job? After all they had only consulted with just one surgeon - Dr. Egrie. I kept asking my dad to make sure that he didn't want to consult any other surgeons in San Francisco, but he insisted that he felt really good about Egrie. Both my Mom and Dad agreed that he has such a wonderful way of breaking down the issues at stake, answering their questions thoroughly, yet in a way that the everyday person could understand without being too "technical". Furthermore, one of the main reasons why my Dad felt so comfortable with him is that he never felt like he was rushed at any time during his consultation. When Dr. Egrie is with you, you really feel that you are his # 1 priority. I bring up this concern because I have read some reviews from other clients that have complained that Dr. Egrie's wait time was extremely long. But what you all need to understand is that Dr. Egrie is an extremely thorough and detailed doctor. He makes sure his patients are cared for, and that all of their questions are answered. So, if you are in a hurry to get going on this procedure, I suggest that all of you take moment to understand just what is at stake in this situation - Someone's life. The Day of the procedure, my family and I were very nervous, anxious and stressed out. But again, my Dad reiterated to me that he was confident in Dr. Egrie. As we arrived to CMPC, and as my Dad was led in for his Pre-Operation, made sure to request that I wanted to meet Dr. Egrie as I wasn't able to join in on the initial consultation. Dr. Egrie arrived into the Pre-Op area, and instantly introduced himself to me. I was so anxious because this was the man that would ultimately have my Dad's life in his hands during the next few hours and I wanted to feel that confidence for myself, that my parents had during their consultation. Instantly, Dr. Egries calming voice and nature put me at ease. He was so compassionate to my concern, and he made sure to assure me that he will take care of my Dad. He saw that I was very upset and concerned, but I never like I was being overreactive or out-of-place. Needless to say, for the next 6 hours my family and I were sitting on pins and needles and full of anxiety the entire time. Around 2:15pm in the afternoon, Dr. Egrie emerged and greeted us in the visitor waiting room with the wonderful news that we were waiting for - My Dad was doing just fine. He told us that the procedure took longer than expected because he initially said he tried to repair the valve, but that the base of his valve was too enlarged, so he ultimately needed to replace it. Again, I never felt like any of our questions were silly or ridiculous. Dr. Egrie really had a calming way of explaining everything and making sure our concerns were addressed. As I mentioned earlier, Dr. Egrie is truly a compassionate human being. He said he knew that the day was a stressful one, and I really felt like he understood how we felt. After the initial procedure, Dr. Egrie continued to check in on my dad - twice when he was in the ICU and again when he was in the regular patient rooms. He has such a cool and calm demeanor that made it so pleasant to talk to him. I truly feel and believe that he cares about every one of his patients and their families. Today is a Saturday, and I assumed that no surgery procedures were performed on Saturdays. But when my family and I walked around the surgery waiting room, I surprisingly saw that Dr. Egrie was performing another surgery...on a Saturday! Later that day, my mom told me that Dr. Egrie just left my dad's room at around 8:00pm in the evening. Apparently, he had an emergency surgery that he needed to perform earlier that day. But despite his long hours, and his emergency procedure, he still decided to check in on my dad. It was at this moment that I felt like Dr. Egrie truly is a gift to my family! What? There are no reviews for Dr. Egrie?! C'mon. I know you're out there. I've seen you in the waiting room. I found him to be pleasant and caring. At least twice his office has called to follow up and check on my progress. Once he actually called himself, not someone from his office, but the actual doctor called himself. How often does a busy surgeon do that? My own cardiologist never has. Both as an inpatient and outpatient I found Dr. Egrie to be attentive and patient. He listens and thorouhly answers quesions. He explains procedures in layman's terms w/o belittleing you or making you feel ignorant. This is important when dealing with such a serious issue as your heart. It also encourages you to feel more confident to ask more questions which you normally may not ask otherwise. So, why only three stars? While Dr. Egrie is a surgeon, I have not actually had surgery (yet). And once when I visited his office it was an extremely long wait, at least an hour. But he was in surgery, so that's actually understandable. You never know what turn things are going to take once they have you on that table. Anyway, I wouldn't want any surgeon rushing through my surgery, simply because they have patient(s) in the waiting room. It's far too delicate a procedure to be taken lightly or for granted. Besides, his office did caller earlier to inform us that he would be in surgery a little longer, so the appointment would have to run later. What can you do? Oh, and he sent out letters to his patients informing them that he is no longer a part of CPMC. He's now Palo Alto something. PAMF? Bummer! I wonder if that means we now have to travel all the way to Palo Alto to see him? Yelp still has him listed as SF Clay St. So does CPMC website and a few others. It's not a doctor's responsibility to do this. Did you know that? It's up to the patient to make certain that their insurance is still accepted by their medical group, hospital, etc. So, I will kick this long review up to four stars once I survive surgery. Who knows? I may even kick it up to FIVE if I'm able to complete the Boston Marathon some time afterwards :) read more

I recently had heart valve replacement surgery with Dr. Egrie as my surgeon. I could not have been more satisfied with the care and attention provided by Dr. Egrie. Needless to say, I was nervous and anxious about the surgery and recovery but Dr. Egrie explained everything in detail and set my mind at ease. I always found him to be understanding and caring about all my concerns. I did have to wait a long time for my appointments but that was because he was in surgery that was taking longer than expected. This was not a made up excuse because I did see him coming in still in his scrubs. For a situation like that, I was totally ok waiting. I worked with Dr. Egrie as part of team of doctors caring for me for Heart valve surgery. My lead surgeon was Dr. Gaudiani - who has practices in SF, Palo Alto, Monterey, etc. Dr. G has an exceptional team of doctors working with him for the surgeries and follow-up with patients. Dr. Egrie was part of that great team and patient care. I got to know Dr. Egrie during my post care in hospital (2 weeks) and follow-up - always gentle, patient and considerate. Dr. Egrie has a quiet, but strong presence. He was very patient and helpful to me post surgery and spent lots of time making sure I understood medical discussions, recovery expectations, etc. He got more personable as I spent more time with him. When I visited him to discuss my case and special needs, I found Dr. Egrie to be very knowledgeable about my proposed surgery and how MY needs could be met by him and his team. Dr. Egrie was specific in what would be done and how. Dr Egrie performed an operation to remove an abnormal mass between my lungs. The operation was successful. His surgical skills are impressive given the size of the mass he had to remove, the amount of veins and structures the mass touched, and the minimal nature of the incision he held himself to. One night during my hospital stay, Dr Egrie came around 9:35pm and woke me up with the most calming and gentle voice. He explained an air bubble issue with my left lung and performed a quick procedure to resolve it. He was sensitive to the fact that I was anxious to go home and apologized my discharge would be delayed. I am grateful that the patient's well-being is his #1 priority. Always respectful, Dr Egrie is genuinely caring and personable. The quality of his care is 5-star. If you are seeking Dr Egrie's care, you will be in very capable and caring hands. Just be very flexible with wait time (especially during your hospital stay when he gets busy) and be mentally ready to ask questions and work through potential complications. I had a low risk profile but still had minor complications. Last but not least, a word of thanks to the office staff. Joselyn had to run back-n-forth to get my CT scan uploaded at the hospital.
