Very few places in town survived after the war and although the city is dotted with many older buildings this is one of the few streets that is quite intact with its cobblestone walkway. It takes you down memory lane and, if you can only imagine what these streets were like in their time, it's incredible :-) A must visit if you are in Nuremberg and you can also walk from here along the river to St. Johannis Friedhof which is another beautiful and interesting place to visit and the whole experience takes you back in time.

Once a residence of the Holy Roman Emperors, it symbolized both imperial power & the city's strategic importance. We are explored its fortified halls, learn about medieval life & imperial politics, and climbed up to the top of the Sinwell Tower for views over the old town. We stepped down into the Well (Tiefer Brunnen) and entered the Romanesque double chapel. We paid €10 and visit the palace, museums, climbed the tower, and explored the grounds. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon and there wasn't a wait. We saw armor, weapons, religious ornaments from this 800 year-old palace that survived World War II in about 2 hours. There were clean restrooms, a small gift shop & beer garden.

Restrooms are free and there's a mini cafe. The Sinwell Tower is 350 meter up, about 100+ steps. "Sinwell" in German means perfectly round so it's up a spiral wooden staircase. We were able to see the courtyard and the view of the city. It gets really windy up here. The deep well tour is every 30 minutes and last for 5 minutes. It's the castle's water supply at 50 meters deep. The water flows horizontally through sandstones and different layers of rocks as a filtration system. Four weeks after the rain, it flows into the deep well and ready for drinking. You'll see a video and a demonstration of the lit candle which proves that there is oxygen in the well.

It is Nuremberg's Main market Square…read more Throughout the year it is mostly a farmer's market, but also has some local craft vendors and some food trucks/stands. You have your locals shopping for fresh produce and the tourists for souvenirs. In the wintertime, the entire place transforms into one of Germany's most famous Christkindl Markets. If you are there on opening day, you can watch the Christkindl stand high on a balcony of the Frauenkirche, she gives a speech and officially opens up the Christkindlmarket. During said market, you can purchase ay and all things German Christmas. From beautiful blown glass ornaments, to traditional Zwetschgenmaennle (little people made from dried prunes and other dried fruits). Don't forget to drink some Gluehwein, Germany's traditional hot mulled wine. It's sold on every corner of the market and the entire area smells like it. Year around main attractions besides the shopping would be the Frauenkirche on one side and the Schoenner Brunnen on the other end. The Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady), Gothic brick built around 1350 is famous for it's Maennleinlaufen at high noon every day. Some may feel it's not all that, but considering this clock was installed in 1509 and has been working ever since, well, I say that is impressive. It starts by the individual musicians playing their instruments and is followed by seven electors marching around Emperor Karl lV, each turns to the emperor to greet him. The Schoenner Brunnen originally built around 1390 is worth seeing by any means. It is surrounded by a wrought iron fence. Within this fence is a brass ring, which you must turn for good luck. Of course there is a legend that goes with this, but I'm not telling it here. The market place is also surrounded by various shops and restaurants. Check it out and experience and important part of Nuremberg.

Produce vendors with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a huge selection of dried fruits and some salami. Food vendors of assorted cuisines of sushi, gyros and Mediterranean food. Such incredible, if dark, history…read more Amazingly, so much is still left, I am always surprised when I come back and it's all still here. I am sure it was left as grim reminder of what happened here, and I am sure it would be a major undertaking to remove it. Besides, most of the things that happen here are concerts and festivals, a much happier use of the field than it was during the Third Reich. I highly suggest doing some research before coming here, there are many resources to research, many photos and films. You can walk up the steps and actually stand on the same platform where Hitler gave speeches, incredible and eerie at the same time. At night, it is especially eerie and foreboding. There are also many other Nazi remanents nearby, most within walking distance. Again, research the area before you come and plan out your walk.

One of the few remaining parts of a vast complex intended as the spiritual home of the Nazi party, the rather battered remains nevertheless still give the feel for the scale of the events that are now etched into history. Standing on the rostrum at which Hitler expounded his fascist political philosophy is frankly a rather ambivalent experience: on the one hand, it feels a place of tangible evil: on the other, the dilapidated ruins provide reassurance that such a regime was, and can be, overcome. The main rostrum site is free to enter with ample car-parking: but there are lots of steps and uneven walkways if you want to climb up.

We started on the 3rd floor with the exhibit why Nuremberg. This is a top attraction in Nuremberg & one of Germany's most historically significant sites. The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds is where some of the most infamous footage of fervent supporters of megalomania has been captured. From 1933 to 1938, Nuremberg hosted the Nazi Party Rallies, propaganda events whose architectural remains still stand. The museum's exhibitions are deeply affecting, with perspective on how ideology and terror reshaped Germany's modern history. The permanent exhibition "Fascination and Terror" uses film, photographs, and artifacts to explore propaganda and power. Gunther Domenig was the architect that designed this new center. The key element is 400 ft long glass steak that cuts through the northern end of the building. He designed the suspended Cinema in the foyer which today is used as open space as well as seminar rooms on the roof. The shadow gaps running along the floor edges in the entire building create a distance between the original Congress hall and the new architectural elements . This modern new exhibition center just opened in 2026. With headsets, we moved through exhibits starting with the significance of Nuremberg, construction of the rally grounds, staging rallies, media propaganda, the experiences, camps on the grounds, the grounds during war and what is now for Nuremberg. They showed concerts from the grandstands in Nuremberg such as Zepplin, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel... Rock in the park. The grounds have beenare even used for motorsports, soccer and the Nuremberg Fair. I was able to put my headset in front of models to hear unsettling first person descriptions.

It is educational with great historical significance as it is literally built on grounds where the N@z! party was founded. Great thought was put in to the creation of this museum and after your visit you can walk around the beautiful lake outside or take one of the walking paths which allow you to reflect on the information you obtained from the Documentation Center. They offer storage lockers for coats and bags as well as vending machines with cold beverages you can take on your walk around the lake. If you're in the area I highly recommend you take the time to visit.

Interesting tour - as other reviews say it was in German but there are English pamphlets available…read more Be sure to ask for them BEFORE the tour though, I had to translate what I could for my travel companion. The tour is maybe 15 min long and in a prime location near the castle and behind St Sebald Church. The history of the prison is very interesting and well worth 3,50 euro. For students, it is 1,50 euro with ID.

Begun in 1225 in a late transitional Romanesque style (elaborate capitals under early pointed arches), the choir was rebuilt on a grand scale in the 14th Century and the tall towers added in the 15th. The choir is a lovely example of a Hall Church, where the aisles are as high as the main nave or choir vault. Badly damaged in World War II, it has been sensitively restored. The interior is blessed with some notable mediaeval alter pieces, but the highlight is the 16th Century casket and shrine to St Sebald himself. The windows have done lively mediaeval glass. The church is now part of the Lutheran denomination with regular services and concerts.

The monument itself is beautiful, both aesthetically and geometrically. I loved the inclusion of so many different languages which were fun to read in some instances or attempt to in others. Most importantly though, I love the celebration of the Idea. Do yourself a favor. Don't just walk through quickly taking pictures. Have a copy of the full UN version in whatever your native tongue, and really marinate on these beautiful, if for now idealistic, sentiments and bathe in the beauty. So incredible.
