The place was nearly empty, which is…read moreeither a warning sign or a blessing, depending on your outlook and your tolerance for gastrointestinal risk. I ordered from a kiosk. It was quick, efficient, and mercifully free of small talk. A machine that doesn't pretend to care about your day is, in many ways, the most honest companion while still lacking the dismissiveness of the Gen Z stare. My sandwich arrived at the table shortly after, delivered by a human who didn't linger. We understood each other. I had the Pink Sultan. Chicken, mixed greens, red cabbage, pickles, and a sauce the color of a polite sunset. I read that the sauce involves beets, which explains both the color palette and the faint suggestion that I was eating something that once grew in dirt and had ambitions. The sandwich was good. Not life changing, not tragic. The chicken was tender enough, the vegetables crisp, the flavors balanced in a way that suggested someone had made decisions and stuck with them. I drank a bottle of Turkish Uludag soda, which tasted like citrus with a hint of optimism. It whispered, "I'm like Fanta, but regional AND foreign, which of course makes me better." The place itself is clean and modern, with that fast casual confidence that says we take our ingredients seriously but not ourselves. They make a point of using fresh components and well seasoned meats that rotate slowly on a spit, absorbing flavor as time passes, much like the rest of us. Everything I ate was pretty good. That is not faint praise. In a world where many meals are often either regrettable or unforgettable, pretty good is a kind of victory. Four stars. The kiosk asked nothing of me, and the food delivered something in return.

If you are going to charge me more by being fancy, You had better be fancy and good. Fortunately Aspendo's delivers. * * * I was there on an academic lunch with an exciting scholar. That kind of thing can happen in a restaurant next to the Princeton campus. This is one of the dangers of eating in a college town. So most of my observational powers and intellectual energy were turned towards general issues of demographic processes and global welfare and the way that these could be re-positioned in the social sciences. There was elaborate stuff going into my mouth. I was paying more attention to the elaborate stuff going into my ears. What was going into my mouth seemed overly fussy for what it was. But it was not unpleasant. * * * Had the agenda been a romantic evening, There been a bottle of wine on the table and The goal being to make the dinner last forever, Elaborate interesting dishes could have been welcome. So this place has its uses.

As we were leaving I reconfirmed it with the person at the host's desk ( seemed to be the manager) , who apologized and said maybe our waiter missed it . But it was a noticeable miss that cannot be overlooked, as that was the purpose of our dinner here. End of the meal, our family's spirits fell flat, but we still sang and celebrated sans the petty candle. Now on to the food and drinks... Mocktails were delicious, colorful, and eye-catching . We tried all 3 on the menu and loved it. Appetizers galore filled our table ... Bang Bang cauliflower had a medley of sweet & sour flavors. Hummus pita board - Warm grilled pita was a table favorite with the small portion of hummus and fresh crisp veggies. Harvest salad - crisp lettuce, feta cheese, walnuts, poached and fresh sliced pear, cucumbers, and watermelon radish with rose vinaigrette made this extra special. Crispy calamari - great pairing with pickled veggies and arugula basil aioli. We ordered an assortment of entrees with all seafood choices . Salmon with risotto , Halibut & Branzino cooked to perfection served with flavorful sides. For dessert, it was the warm brownie with vanilla ice cream and peanut butter cup . The brownie was soft and not too sweet, slightly warm and it vanished in a few seconds. Peanut butter cup was a dense donut texture with candied peanuts We hoped that at least one of the desserts would be served with a candle as we were celebrating a birthday but they missed it and didn't care enough despite letting them know when marking the reservation. I loved everything about the experience at Agricola, but their lack of attention to detail stuck out like a sore thumb , as the poor communication between their front desk and wait staff dampens the guests' experience , making it a not-so-great finish .

In contrast to their far more expansive location in Morristown, the Princeton location is noticeably more "intimate" with Manhattan inspired table crowding. Not enough to detract from a wonderful meal but certainly worth noting. Five stars all day long. PS... no credit card surcharge. A surprise that certainly puts a smile on my face.

So we came here before a movie and got their lunch special which is a chicken sandwich, a giant portion of fries and a drink for $14. I felt like it was incredibly reasonably priced (they also have other specials throughout the week like Wing Wednesday and Taco Tuesday). The sandwiches took a minute to make because I believe everything is fresh to order. The bread was so delicious, like a brioche and the chicken was perfectly crispy but juicy inside. I don't know what sauce they put on the chicken but it was not overpowering and brought everything together so well. I picked the mild chicken flavor and it was exactly that, just a tiny quick, so now I know I can do a medium. The fries were crunchy and perfect too! Hubby and I got the exact same thing and we could not stop talking about how much we loved the sandwich. So ignore the nay-sayers and come trying out for yourself!

Country style decor but definitely halal. I saw the menu online and noted that prices seemed a bit steep. Luckily the in-store prices seemed about $1-$2 less, but still kind of high. I ordered the 2 tenders with fries at medium heat, Mac n cheese and a chocolate shake. There was only one other table occupied at lunch time. I waited about 12 minutes for my takeout order. The tenders were the best part of the meal, juicy meat with a light but crispy batter that I was envisioning on bone in skin on parts. I went with medium spice which felt more like spicy to me, I'd probably do mild in the future. The blazin sauce was ok, the ranch was good and helped control the heat. The generous portion of fries were not good. Soggy and salty, I tried to crisp them up in the oven and it helped a little , but way too salty. The Mac and cheese was also a generous portion, but seemed to be a more child friendly(bland) version. Almost like a cheez wiz sauce. I did not like. Lastly the shake was very good. They advertise using Hagen Daz, and it showed. Service was professional but kind of cold. No hello or thank you. I'm still kind of undecided if I'll return. This was an expensive lunch that I wasn't able to eat half of. I am curious to try their smash burger, but at the end of the day prefer to spend my food dollars at places that appreciate my business.

We visited the Lawrence Township location, conveniently located right off Route 1, and even on a gloomy day, the bold red and yellow design instantly added a burst of energy. Their menu is packed with flavorful halal favorites including gyro, falafel, chicken, fresh toppings, and signature sauces, all customizable as a platter or sandwich. I went with the falafel platter and loved every bite. The falafel was perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and tons of flavor, served over rice with lettuce, tomatoes, and warm pita bread. I added a little of their famous hot sauce and quickly learned they do not play around when it comes to spice. Luckily, the rice and fresh veggies balanced the heat perfectly. Next time, I definitely want to try one of their craft refresher beverages to cool things down. I ordered takeout, but the inside has a lively, modern atmosphere, and they even offer dog friendly outdoor tables for anyone dining with their pup.
