One of the attractive features of the home was that it had a new roof installed by City Wide Decks & railings, earlier that year in April 2023. The previous owners spent $50,000.00 for a new torch-on flat roof, vinyl deck replacement and new handrails. On Friday April 26th, 2024 just one year after the work was performed there was water leaking from the ceiling in the master bath. There was enough water to warrant a bucket so that it didn't leak through to the main floor. I felt comfortable knowing that the roof still had a warranty on it, so my partner phoned Paul that morning, and left a message and sent an e-mail. There was no response. It continued to rain over the weekend, so he called again today, April 29th. No response from Paul. I highly doubt we'll be hearing from Paul Bulat @ City Wide. Disgusting experience so far that gives small contractors a bad rap. I would warn anyone considering hiring Paul Bulat at City Wide Decks & Railings to stay away and look for a contractor that has been in business for more than 10 years. I've read some reviews that are pretty bad. I don't know why anyone would hire him.

We Hired Simar and Save More roofing to put a new roof on our reno in North Vancouver. The roof was…read morecompleted in May 2017. We had a leak almost immediately. We have been trying to contact Simar for over two months and he refuses to answer or return our calls. Since then we have had an envelope inspector do a report on the roof. He found that the workmanship was very poor, and that standard roofing practices had not been followed, causing major issues with the roof. We have a very long list of all the mistakes that were made. We have had several reputable roofing companies look at the roof, and they all believe that it should be replaced entirely. This will be more expensive than starting with a new roof as the old roof will need to be removed. This repair has majorly delayed the rest of the renovation. It has also added costs in terms of drywalling, general delay and also extended rental at our current home. Additionally, due to a bank error, Simar was overpaid $3200, which he acknowledged and promised to return to us. It is many months later and he has not returned the money, nor has he contacted us. We have a signed contract offering a five year warranty. Dealing with Simar and Save More Roofing has not only been very stressful, but in the end it will have cost us additional tens of thousands. We have been nothing but polite and have tried to resolve this peacefully, but there is no response form Simar.

It gives me great pleasure to write this review for Michael and South Coast Sundecks. We just had a…read morecomposite deck installed and we love it! In the briefest terms, Michael was very responsive, explained what he could do, gave a fair estimate, showed up on time, and did an excellent job. Taking these in turn, we were first struck by how responsive Michael was. Where other companies took several days to respond, Michael got back to us very soon after we reached out. We had a very helpful initial conversation about our needs and what he could do for us. I will note, to his credit, that he truly was interested in meeting our needs, and even discussed not installing a deck and simply refurbishing our old deck. There is integrity in that. He was very honest and full of information about composite decks and other options. The most important thing about Michael is that he showed up, on time, when he said he would. Our experience with contractors and builders (and I am sure many reading this can relate) is not great. We just accepted that builders not showing up on time, or simply not showing up, was the norm and not the exception. We were pleasantly surprised when Michael showed up exactly when he said he would, and did exactly what he said would. He arrived soon after we reached out and did a detailed assessment and provided us a quote with options. He did not give us the least expensive quote, but it was fair, and it was far from the most expensive quote. We discussed different options and discussed how to accommodate any surprises that he might encounter while doing work on the deck. He arrived soon after we signed the contract with a team of equally capable and respectful employees. Again, they showed up each day and worked hard and competently to complete our deck. As they were working with an existing structure, it was not without complications and wrinkles. Michael rolled with all of that and fixed what needed fixing. He is uncompromising in his integrity, attention to detail, and excellence. He could have cut corners... we would not have known... but he did not. Moreover, he gave generously of his time, and it did not result in any deviation in cost from the original contract. It was clear to us that he would not install a deck that he was not proud of. We are so happy with the result! Now 2 years into the pandemic and limited social interaction, we cannot wait to show off our deck and have our friends and family over. Michael is competent, professional, personable, and I recommend him for your project without reservation.

Last fall Rise & Shine cleared my gutters and downspouts. This fall I asked Ken to come back to…read morewash all of my windows (exterior side) as well as doing the annual gutter clearing. I also asked him to wash the outsides of the gutters and downspouts as they were grubby. Ken did an excellent job on each of these items, and the work was efficient and tidy. He is unfailingly pleasant and a good communicator. I'll be asking him to come back next year!
