Workout At Home was set up three years ago to provide a reliable, high quality home personal training service for people just like me. They provide all the necessary equipment, motivation, knowledge and experience so that your sessions are manageable, effective and continually challenging. Acesulfame K, a known cause of cancer and ADHD and Saccharin a subtance known to destroy good bacteria in the gut. No wonder they don't advertise the ingredients.. Don't drink it.

Students (£2.30 a class) and staff (£3.20 a class) benefit from pretty cheap class prices, whereas external customers can go along but have to pay quite a bit more (£5 a time - still pretty good value!). This centre also has a very popular collection of six squash courts - three glass backed and two enclosed. These need booking in advance, and if you want to play around lunchtime you need to plan ahead a bit as courts often get booked up quite far in advance (you can book them up to two weeks in advance if you have racquets membership). Then there's the main fitness suite itself, with cardio equipment, resistance equipment and a free weights area. The gym staff offer a fitness assessment, can help you design an exercise training programme, and also offer a personal training service charged by the hour. Finally, there's also a wellbeing clinic offering massage, beauty treatments and physiotherapy - at great prices for staff and students!

There is a large sprung floor to practise tumbling, as well as asymmetric bars, an inflatable tumble track and a trampoline. There are also various mats and spring boards for you to use as you wish. We use it to run through routines and to practise splats - a somersault where you land on your bum - because there is a good amount of room to spread out equipment to cater for people working at different levels. There are good facilities - loos, a kitchen and a reception area. The gymnastics centre also runs a lot of classes for children. The only negative really is that it is quite far out from the centre of Cardiff, so it is only really accessible by a car. Also, a little note, the turning is the one with the B&Q sign - I'm telling you this because we know and yet we still manage to miss it every time!

My toddler loves Planet Gymnastics…read more This family run warehouse, situated on an industrial estate in Grangetown, houses two large trampolines, a soft play pit, inflatable air track, springboard, tunnels, rings, professional gym equipment and much much more. It's a giant indoor playground with a sprung floor, that accommodates lots of bouncing and tumbling but with less chance of injury. The sessions we've been to at 'Space Hoppers' have been on a Thursday and Saturday afternoon and they are designed specifically for toddlers. (I imagine the tunnels disappear and the space transforms for the serious gymnasts.) Space Hoppers classes are mostly freeplay, with a break towards the end for games and songs. I have to say my son was not so impressed with this bit, as he wanted to continue bouncing on all the fun stuff, not sit down and do more structured play. That said, most of the time the staff are pretty understanding and you can let your child continue, all be it feeling slightly sheepish. Tips: Planet gymnastics is better on a rainy day, as little natural light gets in. Bring a quid or two for tea and a snack, which are reasonably priced. I just bought bigger trousers! Now this is a proper gym type gym. You can tell from the big bicepped logo that this isn't a gym with a jacuzzi and a smoothy bar. In fact, the chap behind the counter did warn me that there weren't many women that went. My ears did prick up at that point, but I soon calmed down. Anyway, even though I wasn't sure they were happy to give me a tour and talk me through a plan and all the classes. It seems a pretty busy place, with a standard gym set up (weights and machines and cardio thingies) downstairs and then various spaces upstairs including a large dojo for Muay Thai. They do some great student offers though, and it was only laziness and not because I felt uncomfortable as a woman that prevented me from joining. If you are in the Roath area it would be good to check out. You can pay per session and they have all the yoga and legs, bums & tums and all that. I really, really nearly went!
