The great thing about the items from here is that they never let you down. Go elsewhere and you can buy waterproof matches that will work just so long as they don't get too wet whereas here you get a lighting stick - these never go wrong. What you are buying is reliable items that don't let you down, but because they are also simple in design they're unlikely to be that expensive either. Great for all campers if only so they can light a fire on wet days.

They have a reasonable range of hiking gear and camping equipment as well as many complicated pocket knives and other boyish toys. Staff are helpful, and everything I bought here seemed to be good and durable quality. It's a decent alternative to all the chain outdoor shops in town such as Millets and Blacks, as it stocks a slightly different range of brands, and the prices are comparable for most things. I think they do also have slightly more specialist and heavy duty gear. All in all, if you're about to venture into the wilds of Scotland (or beyond), Leith Army Stores is a sensible place to equip yourself before you go.

Our dog never used the collar, had the original tag and the original bag. I simply wanted an exchange. Woman (allegedly the Store Manager) was hostile with a bad attitude the moment I asked for an exchange. I have been living in Edinburgh for over a year now from the US. People here are great and warm. I have never come across a bad person until now. This manager was rude, curt and could care less about the needs of this customer. Strongly recommend you don't visit this store. Experience was so bad I am contacting their headquarters in Tyne and Wear. STAY AWAY!

Seriously, the quilted pattern has become somewhat of a trademark in George Square, alongside Jack Wills slouch-pants and back-combed, back-sprayed, and dragged-through-the-hedge-backwards hairstyle. And that's just the men. I went in with my mum, hesitantly, as I knew the stigma that came with the seemingly innocent jacket, but I was quite impressed. There is definitely a style - quilt - but there's a lot more to it than that. I ended up buying a wax jacket for a mere £69 and I wear it all the time. Yeah there is a stigma, but not for all the jackets! The staff were really friendly too and ordered in a jacket for my mum, and even though she didn't buy it in the end, they were really lovely. I'm just worried about the condition of my hair now...

I was intrigued as to how the branch in the St. James Centre measured up and so I popped in for a browse. To my delight, they still had the excellent sale on where many items have as much as 70% off! That is my kind of sale! Although much smaller than it's Princes Street counterpart it still has a varied selection of stock and everything is very well organised. It was a bit cramped though, especially as there was a woman in shopping with the biggest pram I've ever seen for the tiniest baby. They had an excellent range of camping stools with polka dots on them and I was very tempted to buy a few as they were the exact match for my picnic set. After realising that I'd have to carry them about Edinburgh all day I decided against it and instead went for a camping torch in the shape of a bumble bee. Excellent. The queue was quite large but instead of getting flustered, the staff were very friendly and I heard them giving pretty much every customer advice on how to get the best out of their purchase and how to keep it in it's optimum condition for longer.

They have all kinds of winter gear, camping gear and other sports gear. The staff helping us was very polite and provided advise as to what works and not and as I bought all these bulky jackets, he made sure that I was comfy in carrying all of them. Can't wait to try them on and see the rest of my family's reaction when I got them the bargains! Looking forward to the winter!
