I had several large trees removed from my lot between Columbus and Nashville IN. There was a large tree that came up through our second story deck, very close to the house. They have a special telescoping crane that went over the house. At the end of the remote controlled crane, there is a device that attaches to a section of the tree to stabilize it, then a chain saw on the device releases that section, which is gently lowered to the ground.
