Maybe it's time for Dorothy Gokey to retire.
As a potential first time buyer, seeking a solid, honest, and informative person in the real estate market to represent me, Dorothy was absolutely the worst person I could have chosen. A nightmare. Under the guise of looking out for my best welfare, she was not interested in showing me homes I had inquired about further, just the ones she thought best for me, which took about 2 days of showing. And when I wanted to inspect a home on the market that I had particular interest in, and had asked what a cash offer might look like, she began to push me into a contract with the owner's broker, giving me only 3 days to sign the contract. She said since the price was reduced, there was suddenly so much interest in it, we had to rush. ( the cash offer made to me was not advertised). She also had threatened if I didn't sign the contract right away, she would tell the owner I was no longer interested, and she would be done wth me. She would not offer the rent rolls on the house, ( which I had no idea I should ask for until after I signed the contract!), she said she could not find any information for me about the utilities; she couldn't get me ANY info about the property because it was a cash deal, she said. And she left me insulting and rude messages on my phone, (which made another real estate broker in the area, whose name I will not mention's jaw drop, some time later.)
She also guaranteed me that if I found I am not interested in the property after the inspection, I would get my full refund back. No problem, she said. She even went further to say I don't need my lawyer to look at the contact, just to get it back to her filled out and signed ASAP!
I was very pressured the day she screamed and threatened me, and I did want to at least have the house inspected, so that I would have more information about it, since the owner and Dottie would not provide any. I had to make an offer to do so, according to Dottie, so I signed the contact and faxed it back. My lawyer was not very happy to hear I did that. I had the property inspected within the legal time frame allotted in the contract, and found it needed extensive repairs; that even with the property price reduced, the cost of the repairs would far outweigh what the property was worth in that area. And the property had some major problems that fell within the contingencies of the contract. I sent her the inspection results.
Dorothy did not return my refund! And weeks passed. My lawyer had to PUSH to get my refund back; Dottie kept telling my lawyer she did not have her email over and over again. And she kept telling me i have to sign a release from the contract first, which she never sent to me. Even the seller's lawyer instructed her to return my deposit!! But she wouldn't send it!
She sent the release over after I finally got the refund back. RIDICULOUS!!!
The house is still on the market despite its price being further slashed and it's been some time since my dealings with Dottie.
Clearly there was no great rush to purchase it.
Dorothy has no interest in her client's welfare.
After this episode, in educating myself further, which she has made me realize I MUST do before I deal with any more RE brokers in the future, and reading the rules in which realtors must abide; Dottie ought to be brought before the local Board of Realtors and explain her conduct. read more
