I never realized how much I missed the camaraderie team sports provide until I joined Team Hi-Dive and they let me wear a dress when I kick balls. Plus this organization not only "supports drunk people running around in the hot, arid summer air" they also have fundraising and charity events and get 20 & 30 somethings together weekly in an active event. And if you think kickball is "easy" I'll have you know it was hard to walk for about 2 days after my first practice. And if you pitch it's basically like doing lunges for an hour and a half. The games are fun to play and fun to watch and whoever wins at the end gets the magical Golden Boot as a prize. Man, I'd like to touch the boot.

June 24-25, 2015:…read more In 2015, the 3D Lacrosse - California Gold Invitational Camp moved to Oceanside, CA from Danville, CA. The cost had also risen from $325 to $475. We expected another great event, quality players gear package, 6-7 hours of premier training on day #1 & Gatorade drinks. Our youngest son was excited to try the camp for himself. Instead of 600+ kids, college level coaches and a great gear package, there were only 200 kids. The gear package consisted of socks, shorts and a t-shirt. This was a far cry from the cleats, duffel bags and heads of years past. A major part of Day #1 was spent doing "registration." Training sessions did not even start until 11 AM. The training was only 4 hours on the first day - (2) 2 hour sessions. The second day consisted of two games, grouped by High School graduating year. My son does not play for a 3D Lacrosse team. He found himself standing on the sidelines, watching the 3D Team players showing off. Instead of exhibiting their team skills, the 3D players would shoot every chance they got - bad angles, congested lanes, circus shots, what ever - it was all about showing off. Many players refused to leave the field, some played for the entire game without rotating off the field - for BOTH GAMES. Purely unacceptable for a "showcase" program. In Danville, the coaches who managed the showcase teams, made sure that the players routinely rotated off of the fields - giving everyone a fair and equitable chance to illustrate their skills. Players that were "ball hogs" were called on it or removed from play. Not the new management. 3D Lacrosse over promoted this camp, over described and hyped it up. In the end, it way under delivered. Overall, this program was a major disappointment. Save your $500 (not to mention your $1500 for hotel, food, rental car, travel expenses, and parents time off of work). Use that $2,000+ to buy some new gear and take some private lessons from a nationally ranked coach !

Not the greatest rec league organizing I've ever seen…read more Did a softball league through here, and tried to do a floor hockey league that got pushed over to SportsMonster because NOBODY but me signed up for the DSSC league. There were several payment issues with the floor hockey league (as payments had to be sent back and forth between the two sites, apparently) that did get taken care of relatively hassle free -- but we shouldn't have had the issues in the first place. The softball league was mostly okay, except for the inconsistency of the refs. They say that if you sign up and want to be placed with a team they will place you with a team, effectively creating a team of free agents -- but they don't. You won't hear from them (although you can call their office and they're reasonably prompt about getting back to you) until just before your league starts, or if there is a problem. Communication from the coordinators is sparse but usually happens if there's a change in schedule or plans. The prices are okay, but feel a little steep for what you're getting. Like other rec organizing services in the area, they probably just don't have the capital to improve functionality and hire dedicated resources for all of their leagues. Overall, working with DSSC left a bad taste in my mouth. I will probably use them again, because I don't know of any other good rec organizations in the area (all the city/town sites seem like crap) but I'm just going to be prepared for headaches, inconsistency, and adjust my expectations about 45 degrees lower. Feel free to try DSSC, you'll probably get to play, but it won't be the best experience you ever had. Oh, and if you do sign up, make sure you've got a full team before you start. Don't count on any extras being on the site just raring to join a team, they don't have many.

We really aren't sure where that $59 per person…read moreregistration fee goes...it adds up to AT LEAST $12,000 PER SEASON for all the registration fees collected. -You don't get paid referees, so you're at the mercy of other players who have been assigned to ref for that week (which results in horrible calls and more arguing/tension than needed) -The person who runs the game doesn't have a permit to play on the field and actually got a ticket for playing an organized sport without the permit during our championship game -The fields you play on are horrible--there are tons of trees, you're next to a river, and it's not lighted so playing at night gets pretty difficult -The t-shirts got to us at our FOURTH game -The championship trophy wasn't present at the championship game--he has to mail it to us because he didn't order it with enough time to account for shipping delays -The ball we played with for the first 3 games was egg-shaped (not round) Horrible.

They were hosting a beginning of season party at Jackson's, which I decided to check out. I discovered one thing about Nakid at this event, it's a social league more than anything. Needless to say, I had an awesome time and decided to join their Bar Sports league. Fast forward a few years.. I've made so many friends and connections through Nakid. I want to reiterate, this is a social league. If you're looking for an ultra-competitive kickball league, this is probably not going to be your cup of tea. This is an amazing league for people who want to meet more people and be social. Oh, and did I mention that we love to drink? I would recommend one of their beginning/end of season parties at Jackson's if you're a little unsure.

Plus, if you're a member (or pretend to be), every first Wednesday of the month, Play Coed and Wahoo's Fish Tacos team up for happy hour provide free drinks (um yes, beer!) and free food at any Wahoo's location. At the 20th and Grant location, they even give away free tickets to any KSE (Kroenke Sports Enterprises, for all you non-acronym geeks like me out there) sports game, i.e. if you wanna go to a Rapids, Nuggets, Mammoth, or Crush game for free, get your tight and toned butt (from all that kickball you've been playing) down to Wahoo Wednesdays!

Be prepared if you watch games in hot weather or during the many unpredictable storms in the Denver metro area. Bring an umbrella for shade or rain. There are also trees in the center between all fields, where chairs can be set up to watch games in the shade. Concession stands are open depending on the event.

The restrooms are clean and usable, the trash is not overflowing and the concession stand had really good stuff at reasonable prices. It's only a few miles from my house and I'm surprised I had never been there before. I enjoyed my team there and would gladly return to play a sport again.

At any rate, I've seen some sketchy, skeevy parks in the Denver Metro area, and I'm happy to report that-- despite it's poor choice in monikers-- O'Kane park is NOT one of them. The play structure? IS AWESOME. It's remarkably graffiti-free (no small feat on the West Si-yeeeed) and big enough so that even when it's crawling with ankle-biters on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the kids have room to roam. There are slides for every age and bravery-level, plus lots of tunnels, rings, bridges, and poles. If you happen to fall off any of these things, you'll land in some soft, clean wood chips. Nice! Aside from the playground, there are covered picnic/BBQ areas (available to reserve, if need be), plus ACRES of green field space, walking trails, tennis and basketball courts, and a little pond. Dogs do need to be on leash here, and most people respect that. Of note: the place can be crawling with Bitchy Belmar Mommies. Last time I was there, my 19-month-old had the AUDACITY to touch another kid's sippy cup (the horror!). BBM came swooping in, antibacterial wipe in hand, nose all out of joint and practically busting a vein in her forehead. "Sorry," I said, casually (because it was REALLY no big deal), "he's in that 'grab everything' stage." I didn't mention that when you bring a brightly-colored wagon full of toys and sippy cups to a public playground and park it right next to the slides, you really can't expect other kids NOT to take an interest in it. "Well!" BBM huffed at me," MY kids are preemies, and they just recently got over being sick, so..." In that "..." were implied the words: "keep your filthy kid's germy hands off my stuff." Um, hello? A) You're at a public playground, and that big ol' jungle gym your darlings are climbing upon has WAY more germs on it than my kid's hands ever will. And B) your kids are like, FOUR FREAKIN' YEARS OLD. If you're still playing the preemie card, you have some serious issues, lady. Anyhow, Bitchy Belmar Mommies notwithstanding, O'Kane Park is a pretty cool place. Check it out!
