The town was named Dahlonega in October, 1833, for the Cherokee word "Talonega" meaning "golden."From its steps in 1849, Dr. M.F. Stephenson, assayor at the Mint, attempted to dissuade Georgia miners from leaving to join the California gold rush. Even the bricks of the courthouse are laced with gold which the tour guide explains enthusiastically. Don't miss this tourist trap as its considered the Town centerpiece. We watched a 15-minute video that plays on the half hour, about Dahlonega's gold history. After the video, an enthusiastic tour guide named JL showed us some of the rooms (office for the judge and deliberation room for the jury), as well as brick with gold specs in it. Then we wandered the rest of the upstairs which had discovery drawers with gems, tools, and other items in them. There were a few more displays and rooms downstairs including one with minted coins from Dahlonega, as well as a gift shop. While we spent an hour here, you could watch the film and get through the museum probably in 30-45 minutes of going at your own pace. Overall, I found it very interesting and would highly recommend!

The town is a small little town with lots of antique shops that were opened along with all the vendors along the streets. They close the streets so people can walk. We seen a parade and there was a carnival set up for all ages to enjoy down a little ways from the vendors. Lots of vendors!! They had a live band playing on a stage. I've been every year since 2014 and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Jess did an incredible job helping with setup, decorations, and flowers. Honestly, the space already has such a beautiful vibe and ambiance that very little was needed.
