If you don't want the specials (which all looked great) you can tailor your meal exactly as you want. Poached eggs, rosemary potatoes (suggested by my very amenable waiter) and English Muffin- exactly what I wanted. He even asked if I'd like the egg's medium. Love that the coffee comes in a china cup that looks like an old fashioned tin cup. Even music was fun! 60's I was even offered a cord to charge my phone . When I asked for the wifi password, he took my phone and entered it for me! It was ling and complicated and he did me a favor. This is a great local spot! We came here on a Sunday and didn't realize they were at closing time. However, they were so kind and insisted they'd allow us to dine! We sat outside on their patio deck and got to enjoy the beautiful weather. Our server was very sweet and checked on us to make sure we were okay. I REALLY want to like this place. What's good: wife got the onion ring Benedict. Definitely a different take on them. If only the eggs hadn't been cooked through. I got the sausage on a biscuit with gravy. Really good but a bit on the bland side. The egg? Next time I'll order scrambled soft. I wasn't aware you could cook scrambled eggs that completely. We asked about our cinnamon rolls halfway through. They finally showed up after we were finished... no comments, just plopped them down right after they bussed our main entrees. Had to get our own setups. But how could they not no how stale they were. Nope. Now the facilities which were really saddening. It could be cute, should be cute. How about some scrubbing, paint touch ups? Wash the dang windows. Roof leaks clearly I repaired. Illegal electrical connections in the dining area. Again, the food actually showed promise. Tried the Golden Egg for the first time today and was delighted by the cute design what with this place being in a converted midtown house. Food definitely took a while to make its way to our table but this place is a scratch kitchen so I didn't mind. My dish (artichoke omelette) was high quality and delicious. Not sure why this place has only 4 stars, it certainly deserves all 5 ++ ... I actually stopped here because there was a really long line at Pete's. I didn't feel like waiting and had no clue this little gem was waiting to be discovered a few doors down. As soon as I got here, I was greeted with such kindness. After quarantining, it was a breath of fresh air to sit down to some food! The lady was super sweet, seated me right away, even brought my pup water and treats. This place is solid. I know "greasy spoon" diners and have frequented all of them in Ventura. Golden Egg is the best at delicious food, great service and that added "something" that makes them different. They are in a small cottage that is quaint and inviting. The servers in there reall go the extra mile and there is even a breakfast happy hour with Mimosa and your CHOICE of juice flavor. More spoon here, and less grease, too. I recently met with an old high school classmate, Raphael, who I'd not seen in years. I suggested that we meet at Golden Egg Café in midtown. Raphael and I were very good friends as teenagers. We both participated in the 'Junior Magicians Apprenticeship Program' at our high school - a vocational program used to introduce young people to alternative career choices in the creative arts. Golden Egg Café is a vintage, pastel-yellow clapboard cottage that's been converted into a charming café with a sizable porch out front for dining, and a bright but intimate interior dining space. It's a longtime fixture in the community that is situated on a busy stretch of Main Street near the high school, but you soon forget about the traffic once you're seated in the friendly environs of the café. Our magic teacher, Mr. Castellano, was actually a local plumber, but he worked children's parties on the weekends as "Zambar the Great." Mr. Castellano kindly volunteered to train high school students in the art of magic and illusion in the late eighties, but he became cynical and embittered during that time as a result of his lengthy and ugly divorce. He would often say that his wife's attorney was a far better magician than him, because her attorney made his house, speedboat, and two kids disappear. After parking in the sizable lot behind the the café, Raphael and I were seated on the patio. The food at Golden Egg Café is as impressive as its lovely patio area. We ordered the Greek omelette and the chorizo skillet - both seasoned perfectly and delivered quickly with a friendly smile. The service at Golden Egg Café is sincere, attentive, and efficient - second to none in Ventura. Raphael and I recollected that Mr. Castellano was a positive impact on our lives despite his personal challenges. Unfortunately, his bitterness eventually subsumed his joy for both magic and plumbing. He retired from plumbing a few years after we graduated, and gave up magic altogether when the party bookings stopped soon thereafter. It was for the best. Towards the end, he liked to close his show by admonishing the children at a birthday party or bar mitzvah to "hold onto the magic kids, and never get married without a prenup!" Most of the parents didn't mind the unsolicited marital advice, but did find it unsettling for their kids to see a grown man in a cape sitting alone in his car while crying into a top hat. Mr. Castellano eventually remarried and moved out of state, but he taught us much more than the levitating toothpick, jumping paper clip, and vanishing coin tricks. His experience taught us that releasing bitterness and acrimony is the real magic in life and, more importantly, there's absolutely no professional future in magic. I couldn't even differentiate which fruit was which. Bf's Benedict was not even a bit runny. The cooks need to re-learn how to cook eggs apparently. Back to basics! Tried this place for the first time with my bestie for her birthday breakfast. In quaint Main Street, super easy to find and parking right off the street. We went shortly after they opened, so parking and getting a table was a breeze. Everyone was very attentive and happy. Seating tables indoor and out. I was really looking forward to this place because it looked promising with a cute outdoor patio area and a crowd outside on Sunday brunch morning but I am assuming it may be out of conveniency for the neighborhood around it because it can not be due to the quality of the food being high because it was the least flavorful set of dishes. The biscuits were dry the gravy had no flavor, none at all. We even went for some slices of the banana bread and honestly you can make it at home better, seriously dm me and I'll send you a recipe I use all year round. You might be confused after ordering it since it comes as chicken tenders and not a fried chicken. I took a bite. I instantly knew what it was because i've had the same thing many many times before in my life with the same exact taste, crunch and consistency (it isn't exactly like 100% real chicken). The chicken that is used are frozen chicken tenders from the Tyson's branded red bags. The consistency of the rib meat filler is evident. Very likely air fried. I can guarantee that you will see the bag if you go to the back. The waffle was likely Krusteaz's store bought mix. I mean, it's food but nothing close to a homemade breakfast experience. Like I said, it's alright if you're in the area and hungry. But it leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you pay $15 for something you would whip up at 3 am while being broke and drunk in college. Greeted immediately by a very nice young man and seated at a table inside on a cool morning. I had a Belgian waffle with a side of bacon. Waffle was light and airy with plenty of butter and syrup. Bacon was cooked perfectly crisp. Hubby had traditional 2 egg breakfast with turkey sausage and hash browns. He had no complaints regarding his breakfast. Yay I am a fan! Yay to Yelp for continuing to guide me to wonderful brunch places! Again, I'm not sure how I've never been here before today.
