Okay, if you want to park without paying in the stupid town, which I don't do on principle because you're going to make me pay to patronize your local businesses?, you have to park down a side street, but there's so much construction right now that I had to drive around hunting for a spot and then park around the corner and down the street, and walk down one block and then down another to get here. But I expressed sympathy instead of inconvenience upon arrival. Then I asked for a lunch special but their soup honestly isn't good, so I asked if I could get the spring roll instead and they said no, if you want spring roll you have to pay for it. Most Chinese food places it's either or, but honestly, after walking that far to get to them, I got so fed up that I left. So here's their review now, one star for poor service and zero perspective when it comes to business savvy because wow, I'm sure the construction is hurting their business, they're not going to budge on a spring roll, honestly even if it wasn't such a hassle to get to them?! I personally would give this place five stars, but I am a little biased as it is my go to Chinese food spot. It's nothing special or gourmet. It's just your typical Chinese food spot that you would order weekly or on a rainy day. I've tried many places in the surrounding area, including: Yan, Hop-Ping, Oriental Garden, new Great Wall, Rice shop etc. and I always prefer Golden House. The place overall has a few seats that seem like an after thought but it's mainly takeout. The service is quick, and honest when they say 30 min pick up they mean it. Place can get pretty busy but it's the best around in my opinion. Some places previously may have better fried rice or Lo mein, but golden house is always consistent and overall is my favorite option. 4 stars because as I stated some places can be better in certain aspects. read more

We ordered takeout for the family including General Tso's chicken, broccoli in garlic sauce, beef and broccoli, shrimp with lobster sauce, and shrimp fried rice. Everything arrived warm and was satisfying enough for a quick meal, but nothing really stood out. The flavors were mild, and overall, the food was just alright. I'll start with the pros: food within 30 mins. Eggroll was tasty. Cons: asked for 6 piece chicken wings got 4. Not sure if we were charged for 6 because there was no receipt. Chicken wings had decent flavor but was soggy and oily. Chicken cashew combo with fried rice, asked for spicy with light sauce. It was pretty bland not spicy at all. The sauce was light but watery and came at room temperature with rubbery chicken. Also, ordered hot and sour soup, was nothing great and needed to add soy sauce because it was also bland. How have I missed this gem literally down the street from my house all these years!? In ordered cheese wontons (did get a picture because they were so dang good). I also got the pork lo mein, they didn't skimp on the veggies or pork, lots of sauce. Hit the spot. And the homemade iced tea, if you've never had Chinese spot homemade iced tea you are missing out. Ok, so we've ordered from Golden House quite a few times now. The thing that drives us crazy, is the inconsistency of this place! We order pretty much the same stuff, give or take. My one daughter only orders the Fried Chicken Wings with Fries. My other daughter orders the Steamed Chicken with Broccoli. My husband and I like to change around with things like the steamed dumplings, Hot & Sour Soup, Cold Sesame Noodles, Roast Pork Lo Mein, and many of the regular main offerings as well as the Chef offerings. One time everything will be great-then some things will be great, while some are terrible. Tonight was a one dinner ok, rest a thumbs down. The "Spring Rolls" were just Egg Rolls. The Human Chicken was asked to be "Spicy, please". It came back absolutely bland! How sad.... I think we shall have to find a new place to go to get official, consistent food. read more

Sometimes you just need a big bag of Chinese delivery on a Saturday night. Golden House hooked me up! Being new to the area, I need to find all my new go- to spots and this is certainly one of them. Wontons with Szechuan Sauce were loaded with flavor ( although a little more spice would've been fine with me) Roast Pork Lo Mein was really good, a little saucier than most with a nice wok char flavor. I balanced those bad boys out with the Steamed Chicken and Veggies from the healthy menu selections. An excellent, mindful choice. All in all, this place rocks! read more

This is our absolute favorite Chinese food restaurant! We have tried MANY over the years, Golden House knocks it out of the park every time. My favorite is the beef and broccoli. My husband's favorite is the General Tso's with pork fried rice. The employees are so kind and always offer something I'm exchange for our egg rolls which we don't eat, lol. The manager/chef/cashier was friendly; our interaction didn't exceed more than 2 minutes but he smiled the whole duration. Their chicken wasn't dry and had nice flavor. Honestly some of the best Chinese takeout I've had in YEARS. Let's start with the fact that the pork fried rice is ACTUALLY fried rice, as in WHITE RICE, soy sauce tossed and sauteed veggies fried rice. Not that yellow rice with frozen veggies knock off stuff other Chinese restaurants push. The roast pork lomein was delicious and The cheese wontons we're absolutely amazing, the egg roll was soo good as well. I've been going to Golden House since The New China Inn closed in Rutherford. I found them by chance while looking for a new take out restaurant. The owner Jai is always pleasant as is her staff. Food is pretty good especially wonton soup and egg rolls. I love the fried rice with sweet and sour chicken on the side. Decent portions and specials are enough to share between two people. They are very friendly, prompt with orders, and also customize dishes to your liking. Their soup: egg drop and chicken & corn are delicious as is their chicken and broccoli in garlic sauce. General Tso's delivers on flavor, but the one instance I ordered this, I wished it was more 'fresh' and crunchy vs the soggy-esque dish I received, but I'd likely still order again in the future as it delivered on everything else. Tried this place out for the first time today for lunch. Delivery took about 1 hour and 30 mins to get here (well 3 buildings away) and then I had to give the driver a step by step instruction over the phone on how to drive his car forward some more about 200 yards towards the person in the middle of the street waving his arms like a crazy person (that's me). That took another 10 mins because he kept making random u turns just to end up back at the wrong address where he started, then stood there in the car for another 3 mins. As for the food... I ordered something simple , chicken wings with house special fried rice . The wings were good but as for the rice, there was nothing special in that house. Basically spent $11 for 4 wings , stale rice, and 15 mins of phone time with the delivery guy. read more

The food is always good...the wait time to pick up absolutely sucks!! I'll give an example of what happens A LOT. Calling in to pick up, ok they say 30 minutes. I wait till more than 30 minutes and when I get there, no lie, I'm waiting another 20 plus minutes. Food takes 60 minutes!! Tell me that on the phone!! I don't want to sit there waiting 20 minutes!!
