With the falls (which can be turned off to reduce noise for the wedding ceremony) and surrounding forest, you'd never know you were close to Draper neighborhoods and businesses. Though the wedding I attended was on a hot summer evening, the venue has plenty of outdoor shade from trees and a covered bridge. I enjoyed the indoor part of the venue just as much as the outdoor part; nice floors and high ceilings make classy dance party or dining hall. Though I'm unfamiliar with package pricing, the venue has the option to open a children's play area in the basement so that kids are entertained during the wedding and reception.

I found The Art Cottage and learned that they do watercolor classes-and figured I'd give it a try. You do need to call or go online to reserve your spot-space is limited. I called and was able to get in easily for the day and time that worked for my schedule. I showed up a few minutes early and was setup at my station with paint, paper & brushes. I was ready to go! The class was brief-I learned a few basic strokes and techniques in watercolor. Gradient painting where you start very light and work your way into the darkest version of a color. I also learned the "wet on wet" and "wet on dry" techniques and when it would be appropriate to use each. I also learned how to fix mistakes and turn them into more intentional pieces of the art. I really channeled my inner Bob Ross turning things into birds and clouds. After the instruction, I was set loose to do a painting. There were some binders full of examples to provide inspiration, but no step by step instruction, which is different from other canvass/acrylic painting classes I've done elsewhere. I applied the techniques I had learned in the lesson and some suggestions from the instructor. Although my painting might not be one worthy of hanging in a gallery, I enjoyed myself and would recommend taking a class to anyone who might be mildly interested in watercolor.

There was one room with tables (very crowded together) and a bar and the other side of the building had casino tables and a silent auction set up. There was also a set of stairs that led to the upper level which got a bit crowded. It's a unique venue that might work for smaller groups, but for this 150+ group it felt really cramped. I really liked the old feeling of the building-the charm and history make it special rather than a new, modern place. But make sure that vibes with the ambience you want for your event.

All of our guests were suffering from heat exhaustion. When I booked the facility and took a tour earlier in the year I expressed that my number one concern was air-conditioning. They reassured me that it would be working. On the day of the event they still claimed it was working, but it could not cool down their venue. It was 90° inside. They had about 10 fans all around that hardly helped. There is no water fountain there. One of the bathroom faucet handles was broken off. The small sink behind the counter was non-functioning. On the plus side of things: The staff was great and helpful. It's a unique and eclectic space. To the owner: Why would you rent a venue that you can't maintain the air? This obviously was not unique to my day as noted in other reviews. The most memorable day of my daughter's life, and your lack of upkeep made it a negative memory despite all the fun we had. That was an expensive mistake on my part.

The space itself is ideal for events and parties--we had plenty of room for everything, including a photo backdrop, awards table, food setup, dance floor, and seating for our team and their families. Everything felt organized, spacious, and comfortable, which made the night even more special for everyone involved. I would definitely recommend Venue 801 for any event or celebration!
