The lady serving is extremely rude and nasty. This was not my first time receiving rude service from her but it will be the last. The only reason why I went back was that Jamaica Grand, which is close to The Golden Crust, was closed for Easter. She loaded the plate with rice and very little meat. As soon as you walk in you see about 6 flies buzz past your face, the store is filthy, and not a single greeting from any of the workers they actually look upset that a customer came in. Waited about 5 mins for the guy behind the counter to finish the conversation he was having on his airpods before he even acknowledged me. Ordered 2 beef patties guy got angry when I asked if they have beef and cheese, another lady came out the back and looked at me like i was inconveniencing them by being there. Payed for the patties and left and proceeded to eat the 2 worst beef patties i ever had in my life. Not only is the service absolutely horrible, but the food is very bad as well. As time.goes by my appreciation of Golden Krust goes way up. I've had the most delicious Jamaican food in places. But this place is more essential and basic in their authentic jerk chicken, on rail and rice and peas. I find myself cracking this spicy food with a bit of an extra kick to it. I feel like Camille is my friend when I see her and she always remembers me. She's quick to hand me a a small while I wait. The real spirit of Jamaican hospitality. Sometimes you go there and they are not the most pleasant. Like you are bothering them placing your order. And has anyone asked for a receipt lately, they are charging 18% tax on their food. It's has been going on well over a year now. It use to be separated into 2 charges, 10% service charge and the regular 8.625 tax. This is the Jamaican spot across street from Little Jamaica. It's the opposite, the service, parking, eating space w tv (environment) is good but the food isn't all that. I'm not a fan of chain restaurants when it come to Jamaican I like the little authentic spots that are family owned. When I've had golden krust in the past it was pretty much frozen food reheated w their generic recipes. Now with this spot it's hit or miss with how they season the meat or the cabbage. The ox tails don't have a gravy it's a juice so there isn't anything to put on the rice or cabbage. And ox tails aren't good without gravy. I came for lunch one time and the cabbage was so good, fresh, well seasoned and had mix veggies in it, today it was firm like it needed to be cooked more and had large chunks that could've been cut more. The jerk chicken is inconsistent as well. One time I ordered "jerk chicken" and they just added spicy bbq sauce on it and called that jerk. It's ok for bbq chicken but not jerk. Today the wings were dry and dark colored, possibly over cooked or sat out too long (chicken jerky) I'd recommend coming here in morning. They have porridge for breakfast which was sweet and creamy. This was my 2nd time ordering food from here. The first time I had was supposedly the whole red snapper. My husband picked up the order so I didn't see it before he got it. It looked old and shriveled. Could not eat it but i vowed Not to order that again. thinking that the fact that it was later in the day. They have given me something that was cooked much earlier. Grew up with a Golden Krust near me in Brooklyn so it feels weird reviewing it--it's like reviewing your mom's methods of raising you-which is 5-stars since I came out well. But back to Golden Krust-I eat here strictly for the beef and many other patties. This is what they're known for and this is what they excel in. Groupon gave me the opportunity to actually try their meals..$12 for two reggaefest combos. And I ordered the jerk chicken--naturally since that's what Jamaicans are known for--and stew chicken. Portions really generous, my straight-faced monotone Jamaican lady behind the counter packed on a lot of rice and meat for me. Also the group on redeeming on the phone was seamless and quick. Jerk chicken was..just ok, saved by the jerk sauce that it was drowning in, the jerk chicken fell short from the true authentic jerks I've had in the past in Brooklyn. Stew Chicken was..actually surprisingly really good, very flavorful, borderline too salty, but the meat was tender. If this would be your 1st jerk chicken experience I would recommend it, if not def try the stew chicken, I'm sure it's not a popular choice but I tell you it's good. Actually, I could have driven right into the trailer park directly from the parking lot, I think. Yes, random people just wandering aimlessly around in the middle of the day. I wouldn't come here at night. Nor would I eat at the establishment. This place is a dive. Take-out was okay for me. I had a Groupon for $12, which got me 2 small reggaefest chicken meals. The portions were quite large. I could have chosen either the jerk chicken or the curried chicken. I opted for the jerk chicken. The meal consisted of chicken, rice, a few friend plantains and some cabbage. The food was good. Portions were big. I'd come here with a Groupon again. Without a Groupon, I wouldn't bother. I have been coming to this Golden Krust for many years and I have yet to be disappointed. This past Saturday I stopped by with my family to grab a quick bite. For a franchise resteraunt, there's only so much you can get as far as decor or ambiance but one thing that sets this Golden Krust apart from others is the cleanliness. This resteraunt is in tip top shape everything is well put together and very clean. The service was pretty great. When I went in there was a line but it moved along quickly. They had three servers and a cashier. The servers were polite and helpful. I'm a picky eater and kept changing what I wanted or how I wanted. They didn't even raise an eyebrow at me they just gave me exactly what I wanted. The pricing is pretty typical, I ordered the curry goat with white rice and I believe it was around $7 or $8. For the price, you get a large portion and a choice of two sides. My cousin got the oxtail and she was raving about it my grandmother had the chicken soup and said it was delicious & my aunt had the fish and said she never tasted a stew that was so delicious! We all enjoyed our meals. As far as drinks, they had soadas, water and Caribbean juices in the fridge. There was tea, coffee and even ovaltine! I was happy to see that they sold ovaltine because I love it and can only make it at home. They had a large selection of patties, I usually get spicy beef with cocoa bread; you just can't go wrong with that order it's ALWAYS great. For those of you who ejooy rum cake they sell it by the slice and even the whole cake which would make a great gift when visiting people's homes during the holidays (I Definitely plan on ordering a cake) they also have a HUGE parking lot with lots of parking. If you park in the lot you can go in to the resteraunt through the side entrance & if you're just going inside to pick something up you can go through the front entrance. While the Oxtail had me coming back the 2nd day the Customer Service leaves much to be desired. POOR POOR POOR. As the line grew, the one person (very unprofessionally dressed) did not see it fit to call for help and neither did the person called who looked out to see the line growing bother to be proactive to help until he was beckoned. And yes that one person I did see as the other reviewer did, totally engulfed in her phone and while assisting almost made you feel as if you were bothering her and if her life is hard because you're there to spend money. I went back a 3rd day hoping she maybe just had a bad day as we all but only to have a repeat of day 2 and spending twice as long waiting. If they Address their customer service quality maybe they can be as good as Little Jamaica down the road (banging food and happy people). But I think the goat stew is overpriced considering the small portion of the meat, there are more rice and veggies than the stew itself. They should've called it "rice combo with goat stew on the side". And the reason why I'm rating this place with 1 star because I got a call from my bank, in the fraud department, that someone from this establishment tried to use my credit card for a different transaction. I had a really bad experience at this restaurant and fyi the Dollar Tree sells their Jamaican patties (literally sells the "Golden Crust" brand patties), yet they charge almost $3 for one deflated vegetable patty. I purchased 4 patties and they tried to only give me 1 hot sauce. When I asked for another, they told me that they only give out two per customer, so I felt extremely uncomfortable asking for a second one which she should have given to me without having to ask for it. The lady made me feel like I was doing something wrong by asking for another hot sauce, why did I even have to ask for the second one, I purchased FOUR patties!!??? And their policy made no sense because if I made 4 separate transactions, would I have gotten 4, or even 8??? How about giving out one per patty! However, she ended up charging me for the additional tiny container of their supposedly signature hot sauce (was not impressed whatsoever) which I had to scramble to find a $1 bill to pay for it (after purchasing almost $20 worth of food). AND THEN when I left the store, something in my mind told me to check the bag and they only gave me half of my order!!!I had to go back in and convince the lady (who had to confirm with the other lady at the register as if I was secretly planning to rip them off and actually lie to get two free patties)! I felt so unbelievably uncomfortable!!! I am not one to go out of my way to set up an account on yelp just to rate one single business (2 weeks later no less and I'm still angry!!)---! I have never felt like I was being taken advantage of at a food establishment in all my life! I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant to anyone!! You will have to do a 3 point turn to get out of the parking lot and watch your mirrors because it is quite easy to back into the actual building.
