You can get chicken, chips, chicken hot packs, chicken rolls, you know where I'm going with this. Like every chicken shop they offer their own takes on these classic favourites, and it's always worth visiting any chicken shop once just to see their interpretation of these menu items. The reason I like to visit is for the salads! Almost every chicken shop makes their own salads, or at least, some of the salads. Select Chicken is no different. It's the quality of the salads that makes all the difference. I'm done with coleslaw and potato salad variations. What I enjoy here is the kabana salad which is primarily kabana, capsicum, and onion. Or maybe it's the rice salad, or one of the other continental salads on display. Even if you don't want chicken or chips, go for the salads. They're a good healthy option and they're reasonably priced too!!

With a standard selection of chicken shop food, you could be forgiven for thinking this place had nothing new to offer. Well that much is true, there's not much that you couldn't get anywhere else. What they do however, they do very well. The one thing I have a problem with are the opening times... or rather the closing times. The shop closes at 8, which to me seems a bit early. I've dropped by at a little past 8 only to be disappointed, which is a shame. The staff are really friendly and the wait time for cooking isn't too long. If you're a local and want a good feed, then stop by and have a feed. Just make sure it's early.

Funky chicken serves up good birds but our 7:30pm visit here meant we caught one that was a bit dry. The chips are heavenly golden and big cut, as was previously mentioned. The salads are the winner here with beetroot and fetta, pumpkin and spinach, tabouli, greek and plenty more to choose from - again though get in early to get the pick of the crop and not left overs. Service was super quick and friendly and the price was good for a chicken shop. Overall, not the holy grail but definitely a contender should some of my other regulars be out on one of my fat wreck Friday type days.

One that I have already reviewed is the best, being Chicken Chef on Main North Road, however Funky Chicken on Duth Street isn't too far behind. The chicken is fine and all, it defeinately passes the 'skin' test.....but the one thing that sets the big boys apart from the pretenders is the chippies. Located on Bridge Road, Tequila delivers what you would expect from a local dead bird provider. I usually go for the Butter Fish or a Hotdog (deep fried dog for extra greasy goodness). The location is quite useful as it has parking in the rear and it is just across the road from a BP 'stock it all and charge a heap' Station, so I can order, fill up the tank and hit the road. Strangely enough the BP sells BBQ Chooks as well, but stick with Tequilla both because it is a small business and they are better!

I've been to a lot of chicken places been where the birds either get dry from sitting in a warmer, or so moist they fall apart when they're picked up on the fork and the person serving you just stuffs it into the bag as best they can. Of course after sitting in the bag just makes it worse and you can literally pour the chicken out of the bag as it has the consistency of a thick stew... UGH... Anyway, you won't have that problem here. As for the chips, I'm not sure I've had better. I've had "as good as", but that's as close as it gets. So you know that good reputation I mentioned earlier? Well, this place wasn't all that bad, though it certainly isn't one of the best Fish and Chip shops that I have gone to to check out their fries. I'm surprised they hung in there for as long as they did, but time inevitably came for them to pass it on. Along with that came the name change. One thing that's consistent with the old shop is the quality of the chips. I love a good chip, and Tuk's offer just that. The menu items you'd expect are available from chicken packs, fish, yiros, roast chickens and burgers. If I was to look at it logically there probably isn't much difference between this place and the multitude of other chicken shops out there. For me there's a nostalgia factor as this place is a part of my childhood. I played my first arcade machine in this place. I may be a bit biased in writing this, but I think it's well worth a visit.
