I went to Goldfinch for a birthday celebration. Overall, it was a really great experience! I enjoyed our dinner; the staff was friendly, the customer service was superb, and the ambiance was amazing. We had a reservation for 7 and came with 9 and they were super accommodating. So we appreciated them right off the bat! We had a lot of dishes. For appetizers we had the calamari and fries which were fried and seasoned perfectly. The focaccia was mouth watering; it came out piping hot, was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and just melted in your mouth. The shrimp was seasoned really well and perfectly cooked on the outside but about a third of it was undercooked inside the shell and part of it was almost liquid. That was a big turn off. I think the shrimp were too large to be cooked the way they were without being charred on the outside (which I did like because it wasn't tough at all) and fully cooked on the inside. The shrimp would've ended up too tough and chewy for the inside to be properly cooked. If they went with smaller shrimp and used more of them, this dish would be perfect. We didn't send them back or let the waitress know because the poor girl was overworked and doing her best. She has way too many tables yet still delivered amazing customer service and was super friendly. The drinks were delicious, I highly recommend the paper plane. We also had the Prosecco and a mixed tequila drink at our table which was loved (I didn't get to taste it myself). A few of us ordered the steak medium and it came out pretty rare. The waitress was amazing and brought us out more steaks but they were still a bit undercooked. The overall flavor was really good. The warm tomato salad it came with was very flavorful and almost everyone at the table had a bite. The potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside but they weren't all the way done on the inside. Also ordered at our table: the pork chop (didn't taste but the two folks who did order it loved it), the ravioli and ceviche. Which I was also told was delicious. The waitress (I forgot her name, apologies) didn't put it one of our steak orders. And it took a bit for it to finally come out. Not sure how that happened but there was a lot going on at our table so it definitely was a miscommunication. And with the chaos at our table plus all of the other tables she had we did not hold it against her. She did a phenomenal job even though she had way too many tables. We really appreciated her! Overall, it was a wonderful experience with a few hiccups that were remedied right away. Would definitely like to go back. read more

My bill had arbitrarily a "cost of living" charge. The "cost of living charge" was also TAXED on the bill. The arbitrary "cost of living", did not take into consideration the gratuity. I requested the waitperson remove the cost of living charge and the associated tax. She did adjust the bill, yet, was annoyed by my insistence the charge and the tax be removed from the bill. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! It is not my responsibility to pay a cost of living fee!!! Hello Gold Filch, pay your employees a living wage!! The coup de grace insult was my order of caviar. This will make you shake your head in agreement!!! The caviar was $120. The caviar, which was of low quality, was served with a thimble of sour cream in a small plastic container. Chopped green onions, ok. The laugh started when we were served POTATO CHIPS, Granny Goose, as the platform to place the caviar, onions and ittybitty serving of sour cream. REALLY!! This is one of the worse meals of all of our lives. There were 6 diners, the bill was over $600. YIKES, what a complete disaster from beginning to finish!! For the price, ZERO!! For the cost of living charge, ZERO!!!! 3rd time here. It was great the first time, ok the second time, and a disappointment tonight. Tomato dish was good: bright and fresh. The corn dish had good flavors but not a fan of the texture of the cold, gloopy "souffle." Flavors in the Raviolis were good but the pasta was gummy. Undercooked? Raw? The filling a bit overstuffed, but the overall flavor was ok. Fried chicken-didn't enjoy the breading style, a bit too "shake-and-bake" style that also slid off the chicken like a ring, fell off like skin. Chicken was almost too soft, if that's a thing. Ehh. Chocolate cake dessert lacked flavor. Too cold? Nice ambiance. Host sat us quickly. Server was friendly and helpful. Backup servers need some refinement. We chose the table. We've been here twice before and the dinners were good, but this night excellent. We've typically will get the small plates and share. Started with oysters and focaccia. Focaccia was ok, oysters excellent. Good beer and wine selection. For the main course we all ordered the large plate hanger steak with potato and broccolini. We all agreed, one of the best meals and steak dinner we've had in a long time. Steak was cooked to perfection with a sauce. The batter tastes flavorful and the squid itself was very tender. We also ordered the pork belly which was suuuuper tender and soft. As a self-proclaimed Caesar salad girlie, it gets my stamp of approval for sure, hehe - SCALLOPS: cooked to perfection with such delicious flavor. - SQUID INK PASTA: I think this was a special that night, and we loved it! Our only complaint was we wished the serving was even larger! It was our first time at Goldfinch. We had This, focaccia rosemary pull aparts, That, fire roasted beets and crispy calamarI, The Other, crispy pork belly, and Dessert, peach crumble. All were delicious and unique. Beets with caramelized yogurt, smoked chili remoulade with the calamari, savory quince glaze on the melt in your mouth pork belly. The peach crumble was so simple, just fresh warmed first in season peaches topped with almond crumble and vanilla ice cream. Had reservations for date night and was seated on the patio. It then took 28 minutes and my wife going to tell the hostess that nobody has come to our table. Once our waitress arrived we placed order for bottle of wine and some appetizers. The oysters were very good and fresh. That was probably the only highlight of the night unfortunately. We ordered dinner which was the hanger steak and sword fish. I ordered the hanger steak medium temp. Once entree arrived it had now been 1hr 30min we had been at the restaurant. Hanger steak was completely raw with basic sear on outside. Swordfish was raw with similar outside sear. At this point I flagged down waitress asked for check and to take back entrees. No manager came by the table to try to make it right. I was given bill $154. I paid bill and left. There was no compensation for the terrible service or food. Very disappointed since this restaurant did have good reviews. Rolling the dice when you go here I suppose. read more

We were a party of five for dinner and sat on the covered patio out front. The decor is modern yet warm and has some intriguing lighting. To start, we shared a variety of dishes: Calamari, Red gem caesar Salad, Butter lettuce salad w/strawberries and feta (my fave), and some interesting butter poached mustard potatoes w/pickles. For the mains, four of us got the Angus hangar steak w/ pt. Reyes blue cheese with an incredible red wine shallot reduction, and one got the crispy and light fried chicken roulade with an equally excellent sauce. It was fairly quiet when we arrived (lunch time on a Friday), and we requested one of the booths inside. I loved the multiple, high backed booths, and how comfortable it was. There's tons of light from the windows, and the decor all has a nod to gold/the goldfinch, it feels rich and sumptuous. Our server was awesome, answered questions and did a great job of making suggestions. My friend and I ordered bloody Mary's - they were so good! If you like a good amount of spice (think healthy horseradish and pepper), and great flavor, this is your beverage. On to the food - we started with the house made pickles - which was a fun collection of all different pickled things, and the brine they use is very good. I had the grilled tuna nicoise, which was generously portioned, and came with egg, potato, olives, marinated artichokes, radish and lettuce - it was so good! My friend ordered the beet salad - her plate was so vibrant, and also really good. Find something to mop up the delicious beet dressing around it - yum! The others both ordered burgers, and said they were really good, as were the French fries that accompanied them. We were hoping Goldfinch would be a good replacement for K and L, which was our Sebastopol favorite. Sadly, it's not. We were a couple minutes late for our 6:45 Sun reservation, but our table wasn't ready, so we waited at least 15 minutes at the noisy bar, hoping it would be quieter at our table. When we were seated, we found the noise level to be high and the lighting dim, making the menu difficult to read. We ordered cocktails, which turned out to be the best part of the meal, though they were slow to arrive. The other positive aspect of our experience was the service which was very courteous and welcoming. My husband had oysters for a starter, which he liked and I had the butter lettuce salad, which we shared and neither of us enjoyed. It was swimming in a heavy, salty balsamic dressing. Our main courses suffered with the same problem as the salad, too much salty, overpowering sauce, drowning my steak and his black cod. The cod and steak themselves were delicious when we could remove enough of the sauce to taste them. We had no dessert nor alcohol and our tab was $180, including the tip. We won't be back. read more

Fantastic food that's not only highly "Instagram" -able but also delicious. The aesthetics reminded my partner and me of a restaurant in New York City (we both lived there for years), and the service was impeccable. The cocktails were diverse and flavorful, making us think this could be Sebastopol's best new date spot. The food was delicious, with portions sufficient for our party of four with plenty of options for those that are vegetarian. The beets, scallop crudo, and tortellini were favorites.
