This one of the saddest gyms I've ever been to. I was visiting my folks for Thanksgiving week and wanted a more thorough lifting session other than my dad's 50lb dumbbells. I'm a member of the Golds in Germantown, MD. I passed this Golds on my way in so I wanted to see if I could workout here with my existing membership. Predictably, I couldn't. Turned out I needed something called a "passport" from my main gym. How I would even know to obtain that, I don't know. They told me I'd need to pay either $15 for a "day pass" or $40 for a week pass. I thought the week pass would provide the best value since I planned on working out multiple days a week. Helpful hint before paying--any--gym for a temp pass: WALK THE GYM. Had I done that, I would have seen that: - 2 out of 3 squat racks were busted - The equipment was old enough to easily see rust - The equipment was outdated - Some equipment had no "starting weight" listed - Some of the stretching and warm-up equipment was locked up - Heeeeavy on the sausage Of course they wouldnt give me a refund in typical gym fashion. Shame on me for not getting a feel for this place first. The next day I went to Strength and Body in Greensboro with a friend and that gym blew this Golds into orbit. It had new and premium body building equipment, multiple rooms for multiple things, a seamless, quick guest system, and ALL the equipment was in working order. Next time I'm down here I'll definitely skip this Golds, pay more, and go workout with the soccer moms and housewives at O2. But I have no doubt my experience will be better and I won't need a tetanus shot after using the equipment. read more

After speaking to the higher-ups they were able to cancel the personal training and offer a full refund. I will give them 3 stars. I hope the process is more streamlined going forward I should not have to do all of that. Signing up for a contract goes both ways, if my service isn't up to standard I shouldn't have to jump through so many hoops to cancel it. read more

I joined this gym so my son could utilize the basketball court while I worked out. He's 13 & he's been allowed to utilize the gym for over a year now. We show up yesterday & we were told he's not old enough to be there...since when?!? I explained we were there a few days ago, there wasn't a problem. I explained he's been going for a year with a friend & there wasn't a problem. The guy who let us in a few days ago was at the counter yesterday & he said my son wasnt old enough. He got the manager who also has let my son in previously & he said the same thing. I call bullcrap! They refused to let me cancel my membership & they're refusing to refund me. I'll be calling corporate to file a formal complaint. The worst service I've ever received. read more

Echoing what Brandon said below, we signed up in November 2019 for a 12 month membership. Covid came along and Gold's put everyone's account on pause. When Gold's reopened and we returned to the gym, we saw that members were rarely observing Covid health protocols and there was no enforcement whatsoever of mask-wearing on the floor. Having at-risk folks at home, we decided it was safer to wait until circumstances improved. Having not used Gold's for months (due to their lack of enforcement of safety protocols), we asked to cancel our membership. We were told we would have to wait until June 2021...JUNE 2021...or pay $100 each to cancel. We had signed up for 12 months. It is in no way our fault that Gold's closed during Covid and they weren't able to meet THEIR obligation to US. Also echoing another member below, equipment is often absent or missing. Try finding a clip to keep your weights on the bars or finding a slam ball. Good luck. read more

If you want to cancel your membership, even if you were a member for several years, they make it next to impossible to cancel. I have tried for several months and they continue to charge me, the BBB has had several complaints about this gym. Avoid it. Do not join. One reason I no longer use it was there was always so much water on the bathroom floor, I almost fell several times. If you have mobility issues do not go here. read more

I love this location, all of the trainers, and the classes they offer. They are an encouraging, supportive, and clean facility. I'm so grateful to be a member. Gold's gym on Wendover in Jamestown is a great place to work out. Gabriel, who works at the front desk, always greets clients with a smile and is extremely helpful. All the other staff is friendly and willing to answer any questions the members may have. Great atmosphere. I highly recommend this Gold's location. read more

Don't go here. I was excited to get to use the pool and signed up for the $30 a month plan a few months ago. This month however, they randomly charged me $50 which I thought may have been my monthly fee + a yearly fee or something. This place used to be an OK place to workout. They have installed some new cardio but does not make up for the machines which are usually broken. My real complaint is with the personal trainers. The trainers have no problem monopolizing the equipment (especially the pool). Paying customers are second class citizens to the personal trainers. Do Not Get A membership here!! while being a member everything went well but I had to cancell due to me moving, we cancelled all our family accounts since October 2018, I came in november because I was still getting charged for 3 memberships, the Manager there said he would fix it that the other manager had made a mistake, he called about a week after and said he was still working on it it is january 3rd and I am still getting charged, Ive called numerous times and the manager DILLAN is never available. So far so good. I havent faced any problems that other yelpers did so far . Equipement is not bad compared to LA Fitness and planet fitness , where they have really bad rusty equipment. I am yet to use their classes, cardio equipment and sauna are all great. Lockers are always neat . Currently they have a Groupon for $50 for 3 months membership , which is a good one , rather than paying $30 per month and cancellation fees. read more

The gym here used to be a Rush Fitness, when Gold's took over everything went downhill. It seems the childcare now is an extra monthly charge, the hours are shorter and the maintenance on the equipment is almost non existent. I have had to tighten some bolts by hand on equipment they were so loose. There is a maintenance person I see once in a while but he's usually working on something that is completely broken from lack of preventative maintenance. The place reeks of chlorine from the pool which the door is propped open to the gym area by one of the few kettlebells that they have on the turf area. Most of the kettle bells are in the GGX Area or Gold's fit area which is of course another charge to be a part of. Of the trainers here, half are actually in decent shape, so choose wisely and at your own risk. The bathrooms are always a mess and trash is never taken Out during the day so the trash cans overflow. The water fountains half work. They vacuum and sweep but it seems they just do it in the main area not really close to the machines. The best I ever saw it was when it seemed some people from corporate came down. It was like the fakest show of employees all walking around like talking to people and checking in with customers. It was comical. Most of the time the trainers look pissed off and most of the front desk people are on their phones. Most of the meat heads left and went to sport center which is nice, but it seems like the cost has went up and the benefits and maintenance has gone down. I can't wait until an LA fitness opens or when 02 fitness opens at Friendly Center. I will be a past member of this establishment at that point. I have been a member here for about a year. This facility is really nice. They have all the equipment thst I am looking for and more. One if my favorite things about this facility is the pool and sauna. It is a really nice extra adminity to enjoy. The staff is always extremely friendly and it is always really clean. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. I signed up for a free 3 day pass to check out the facility to determine if I wanted to switch my membership over from my current gym. The pass list the hours of operation for anytime use but I arrived at 5:45 am to be sent home due to the fact hat their is not a manager to authorize the pass. I was going to pay the $15 to go ahead and work out but the associate at the front desk rudely told me doing so would de activate my pass. I loved this place but I don't trust gyms or automatic drafts. I set up my biweekly payments out of my "play" account & I'm glad I did. The contract says that every other Friday my account would be charged. .... yeah for some reason they ran my account on a Wednesday and I don't transfer their payment until Thursday. Well then they ran my card on friday with an extra 10 attached for a nsf pymt you weren't suppose to run in the first place. Simple misunderstanding right? No problem, I'll just call and straighten this out. We'll Mr. ZACK WAS SO RUDE. He immediately went to defense mode as if I was going to start an argument. I am not sure what Golds gym was after the transition from The Rush, but it's a Great Gym now. If you have the extra money, get a trainer. I have trained with a few people but by far, Chris is the best. He has exceptional fitness knowledge, and is flexible with his training schedule. He also has alot of experience with Ketogenic/lowcarb dieting while training. I also just started Golds Fit a few weeks ago. The value for the monthly fee is Awesome, it gives you unlimited knowledge with different trainers and different training techniques read more

Gold's Gym response to the pandemic has been disappointing to say the least. I had a membership that started in November of 2019. Once the pandemic was in full swing (March 2020) they placed a pause on members payments. Once, the gyms re-opened, I requested to cancel my membership. I have not used the facility since February 2020. They refused to cancel my membership and forced me to pay a full year during a time where people are losing wages. Aside from the fact that they were not practicing social distancing or enforcing masks. (This was observed when I was also forced to come to the facility in person to request a cancellation, that was ultimately denied). I have been a member for years and while the gym is within walking distance of my home. I will never give Golds Gym another red cent of my money moving forward. The staff is rude and customer service is no better. This company has no moral compass and is completely devoid of human decency. read more

I been a member for 4 years before it was the rush now golds gym, never had any problems with my payments or anything, last month my bank changed my debit card number and yes i forgot to notify the gym, after a few weeks i went to the location not even for a workout but to get my debit card info straight, this guy came and i swear i could see the dollars signs in his eyes, he said that because my account was DELINQUENT i couldn't get my regular price and tried to bump me to 20 dollars extra and a new contract, but of course I refused, i got up the chair and paid my pending balance, called corporate and they fixed the problem in 5 minutes. read more

If they had zero stars that's how it would be rated. I agree with the other review that they tell you, that you are paying your last month early but then when you go to cancel you are paying a final month. Secondly, the machines are mostly old as dirt (like the original treadmills, might as well be cranked up lol). Thirdly, the reason I chose this gym was due to childcare being included in the membership, however, when I get off of work and she gets out of school, or on the weekend they don't have enough workers in the childcare facility and you have to be put on a 1-2 hour waiting list. I signed up for what was then The Rush in 2007!!! The Rush was always a good experience. if any of the equipment broke it was fixed same day or next. The place was clean, and actually told my friends where I went and told them to join. Now? UGH. Since Golds took it over it has declined dramatically. The only have two stationary bikes on the floor and both are not working properly. Numerous pieces of equipment are not working with signs on them that in some cases have been there for as much as 3 weeks til i stopped counting. The regularly run out of paper towels etc on the floor and in the bathrooms, and this did not happen when it was The Rush. I no longer brag on my gym and tell friends to go elsewhere, and I am now looking to leave soon myself!!!! Sad..when The Rush came in years ago it ran Golds out of business here. I stopped in for open house this week to check out the classes as I've been looking for a place to resume Zumba classes in the Triad. According to their website they had a class on Wednesday at 7:40 so I came in and asked about the class. The lady had me sign in and directed me to the back of the building where the classrooms were. I walked by the window of one and saw weight lifting and didn't see the Zumba class their website mentioned so I went back to the front to ask about the location again. Another guy followed me back and pointed to the room with the weight lifters. I kindly pointed out that I was looking for Zumba that was mentioned on the website. He then directed me to the schedule posted on the wall next to the room and realized there was no Zumba that day. I asked them to please update the website so that other guests wouldn't be confused, noted the next class I could attend, spent 20 minutes on a cycling machine, and went home. I came back on Friday again asking for the Zumba class only to be told it had already happened. "That's not when the schedule says" I told them and the staff immediately got all defensive. They essentially shooed me out the door with the schedule I already had without apologizing for not telling me before that there was ALSO a funky schedule that week. I will not be signing up or returning, suffice it to say. read more

Was with this gym for several years when it was the Rush until Golds Gym came in. I moved to a new house and contact Gold's Gym MANY times and was told I would be given a call back about canceling my membership. This went on for over a month. This past week I finally bit the bullet and drove out there and canceled my membership and STILL got charged the very next week. Out of just being tried of the crap I called Gold's corporate who basically blew me off saying that the Golds Gym on Wendover did not properly handle this situation and that I have to get punished for it via my money. I think Gold's Gym is just another corporate money house with no concern for customers. read more

These new hours are ridiculous! The reason everyone loved the rush is because they were open 24 hours a day. Golds gym takes over and is now closing at 8pm on the weekend and 11pm on the weekdays. This is insanely ridiculous! At least planet fitness is open 24/7 because you are going to lose so many loyal customers because you have decided to change your hours to such unreasonable times! This gym is going down hill fast! First the basketball court has been closed for months with no reason and now they are closing at unreasonable times! Hello, I submitted a cancellation on 7/13 but did not notate the confirmation number expecting to receive an email confirmation given that my email address was entered during the process of submitting the request; I will be notating this confirmation number. This was completed after being instructed by a staff member of the Jamestown, NC Gold's Gym to submit the cancellation through the website. On 7/20, I noticed that there had been a charge made to my credit card on 7/15 for the monthly recurring fee. I contacted the customer service line to request a refund and was informed by a representative that this could not be done without the confirmation number. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was sent to a voice mail where I left a message with all of my information. On 7/21 I called back in to the customer service center and was again informed that nothing could be done. I again requested to speak with a Supervisor and was told that they would not help me; I insisted on speaking with a Supervisor and was again told that I could leave a message. I explained that I had a left a message yesterday and have not received a call back, the agent informed that there is a 24 hour window to return calls; I opted not to leave another message due to my level of frustration. I am extremely disappointed in the service that I have received thus far. In the past my experiences with The Rush have been nothing short of outstanding and I would like to leave the gym continuing that experience however, due to recent experiences I am not sure if that will be the case. I am no requesting that my 7/15/15 charge of $29 be refunded in addition to the charge of $58 charged on 6/15/15. I am requesting that the $58 annual charge be refunded because I should not be charged an annual fee when I will no longer be using the services provided by Gold's Gym having acquiring a new membership with Planet Fitness last week. I was also informed that had I moved my membership from The Rush Fitness to Gold's Gym I would not have been charged the annual $58 fee while in the Jamestown location on 7/13. Again, I am requesting that both charges be refunded to me as an act of good customer service and as a courtesy due to the disappointing service that I have received. Update- After submitting the above via the online form, no confirmation number was provided and I noticed at the bottom it states that cancellations are not accepted via email. If this is correct, why was I directed to submit the cancellation online by a member of the staff and then asked for a confirmation number via the phone. I cannot recall the staff member's name. Futher, I received a response from the GM M. Johnson for assistance via the online submission tool and was not offered any form of assistance with this process. How ironic that I received a response to my inquiry today but did not receive a response when I submitted a request via the online form on 7/13 requesting a cancellation. A response stating that the online form was not the correct forum for a cancellation request and directions on how to properly submit the form would have been greatly appreciated and would have allowed me to submit my membership cancellation request prior to 7/15, the date of the fee charge. In his response, he directed me to goldsgymmember.com which is a completely different website that I was not informed of during any of my 3 interactions with Golds Gym staff. After conducting research online I have concluded that this is a KNOWN issue, the fact that there is another website that you have to go to request a cancellation. I will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Report, YELP and all other methods that may be available to me, to express my discontent with the level of customer service that I received or lack thereof as well as my issues with the cancellation process. read more

I was misled when joining. they stated that I could cancel my month to month membership anytime and that the last month was paid for up front...no charges after you cancel and you still have 30 days to use the gym (that was the idea anyway). When I canceled they stated they needed 30 day notice and that I would be billed again, what happened to paying for the last 30 days up front? The membership was mis-represented. The only thing I enjoyed about the gym was the fact it was open 24 hours, but unless you want to work out at 11 pm the place was always too crowded. No towels and the bathrooms were always musty smelling, but the staff was always friendly. read more

So for the last 3 years we have allowed the Rush, and now Gold's gym employees, to solicit in our stores, receive discounts etc, and in return they offer a comped membership for myself and /or employees, and for the last 3 years I have had a constant battle to workout there because they have yet to put a process in place to update their comped memberships on a monthly basis. Last night I was told I could workout even after explaining the situation, when I just allowed 2 of their employees to market in our store just a short time ago. The also have a Gold's Gym box in our stores as well. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was told I could not and that "the conversation was over." I did not get upset, yell, or cause a seen. The police were called when refused I to leave and I was escorted out. It's no wonder so many people have left this gym. It's very sad to me the state of the world we live in, and just a little customer service and human decency can go a long way. Great customer service no longer exist, and as a regional manager for the southeast United States of a large supplement chain, I understand the importance of putting the customer first. This particular employee did absolutely nothing to help me or look into the situation. I will be contacting their corporate office about this particular employee and how they conduct business with their members and business partners. This particular location has an awful reputation in Greensboro, and has lost a lot of their members to neighboring gyms. read more

I was working in the area temporarily as a consultant. Due to there not being a LA fitness in the area and the company i worked for had a promotion being ran at the time with Gold's i decided to sign up and join. I was a little skeptical about being billed every two weeks for monthly dues but i didn't have a better option at the time. So long story short after I finished my project as a consultant in the area I went to cancel my membership with Gold's so I wouldn't have to pay for another two weeks since I just had been charged, the employee at the gym told me that I would be charged for another month if I cancelled at the gym. He continued to tell me that if I called customer service they would cancel my subscription immediately. So since i had already paid for the next two weeks there was no sense of urgency on my part to contact customer service due to me packing up and leaving the area. So I called customer service a week and a half later to cancel and the representative had told me that I would have to pay another month after I cancel. I advised her that I was told by an employee at the gym that if I called customer service that you could cancel my subscription immediately. She told me that was incorrect and just asked me if I still wanted to cancel. So now I'm on the hook for another month after I just paid my dues 2 weeks ago. Instead of being understanding she just said sorry for the incorrect information but unfortunately it would still take 30 days from today. So a month later after called customer service I looked at my account today and noticed that Golds gym charged me 40 dollars due to my 14 fee and 26 dollar fee due to a declined transaction because I had received a new debit card and they didnt have it on file. So I called today to explain the situation and how if I was provided with the correct information initially provided by your company I wouldn't have even been receiving these charges. I also explained to them since they have my number of file why didn't someone just call me to resolve this issue before charging me an additional 26 dollars. They told me that as a member it is my job to keep up my financial institution information with them. That's when I explained to them that I'm no longer a member because I cancelled. They representative just asked if there was something that she could help me with. I will never go back to Golds gym and FYI if you are in the area and looking for a great gym to workout at they are building an LA fitness right down the street with better equipment, better prices and you only get charged 1 time a month.
